Incorrect date of birth/death

[edit]

Hello, I noticed you added dates of death and birth who do not match with the rest of the life of this person: Imre Bartos (Q59676686) Could you please take a look? Davidoskky (talk) 17:39, 1 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

sorry, I added them from the linked Commons Categroy - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Imre_Bartos - which are certain dates see https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Imre_Bartos#/media/File:Imre_Bartos_and_J%C3%A1nos_Akkerman_plaque.JPG
It his probably an homonym, and I didn't see the conflation...

The person who added the Category and Site link did a poor job, and I should have checked other values.. I have split this item and moved the wrong claims -> Imre Bartos (Q137990293) - thanks for the correction ! :) Hsarrazin (talk) 08:35, 2 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

PS : I don't understand Hungarian, so, I cannot use the commemorative plaque for anything other than dates :( --Hsarrazin (talk) 08:44, 2 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Revues scientifiques

[edit]

New version of autoLastName.js

[edit]

Hi there,

I see on your common.js that you used to use Jon Harald Søby's autoLastName.js. I've made an improved version that also tries to fascilitate entering in given names, it can be found at User:1Veertje/NamePrefiller.js. 1Veertje (talk) 18:42, 26 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

oooh, nice ! thank you very much @1Veertje :) - I just tested it on a few items, and it seems useful !! Hsarrazin (talk) 18:48, 26 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

ISNI duplicates

[edit]

Hi! I see in Géraud Létang (Q134561467) you have added two ISNI (P213); in these cases usually, after adding them, I also click in one of the two ISNI IDs the yellow box "Please help us improve this record" and I leave a message "Same as CODE_OF_THE_OTHER_ISNI" with the reference to the Wikidata item containing both ISNIs; usually they merge one ISNI into the other in one-two workdays, so afterwards I come back to Wikidata, check ISNI and remove the redirected one. I have been able to obtain the fix of hundreds of ISNIs in the last years. I hope this can be useful also for your local authority file! Best, --Epìdosis 19:57, 3 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
the problem is one ISNI is linked to Bnf (main ISNI delivering org in France), the other to Idref/Sudoc ; both org are delivering ISNI ids, which means they have to agree between themselves AND correct their records...
that was the reason I added both, to make it obvious there is a problem ; if you're able to do this, ok ! I can't, especially for now, as BNF is changing its cataloguing software, and doesn't answer to such requests :( Hsarrazin (talk) 10:23, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi! In these cases I usually only report to ISNI, obtain the merge from ISNI and delete the merged ID from Wikidata; if it used by BNF, I hope they have a routine of correcting redirected ISNI inside their authority file, although I am not fully sure it exists - surely it is something to be clarified after they have completed the change of the cataloguing software. Since we have (as of now) no ISNI imports from BNF, the risk of readdition in Wikidata of redirected ISNIs on the basis of BNF is very low. Epìdosis 21:59, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
well, hoping that Bnf has a routine is a thing.
Since they are the principal ISNI attribution authority in France, I don't know how they manage these. One thing is sure, they are now (2026) in the middle of a change of cataloging software (to use RDA in their source data), and they stopped updating the in april, and won't go back to updating before at least september/ october.
they are still debugging the process of converting from their cataloging soft to exported data in Unimarc and Intermac on the site catalog (because, yes, there are some).
One reason why I tend to put links to their data here on WD, and "deprecate" (but not remove) data that have been corrected, so that they can retrieve enrichments, corrected dates, etc. crossed fingers.
For the moment, it's no use trying to contact them for corrections. They are in testing/debugging mode, not production mode. :) Hsarrazin (talk) 07:00, 18 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
