How to find chublets in Wikidata?

[edit]

Statements are set on every chublet, whatever else is known about it. They are what makes the set retrievable as a set: the class alone will also catch research software modelled by other communities, so the WikiProject statement is what draws the boundary.

Property Example/ further qualifiers Explanation
instance of (P31) chublet (Q141115627) always use this: defines it as a chublet (Q141115627) as subclass of Little Minion (Q73899440) belonging to chublets.software (Q141115774)
maintained by WikiProject (P6104) WikiProject chublets.software (Q141169143) always use this: ties the item to this WikiProject.
part of (P361) chublets.software (Q141115774) always use this: link it to chublets.software

Core properties

[edit]

Beyond the two above, these are the statements a chublet should carry where the information exists. Ordered by how much they contribute to findability.

Property Example/ further qualifiers Explanation
source code repository URL (P1324) https://github.com/ISAAKiel/quantAAR, qualifier version control system (P8423) public source code repository. version control system (P8423) is a required qualifier: Git for GitHub, GitLab, Codeberg and Gist; Bazaar for Launchpad; Bitbucket is ambiguous. Optional further qualifiers: web interface software (P10627), archive URL (P1065) with archive date (P2960), mirrors data from (P3447) for mirrors, has characteristic (P1552) mirror storage (Q654822)
copyright license (P275) copyright licence. source code repository URL (P1324) carries a constraint that the item should state one, so this is the statement most often missing on small research tools
programmed in (P277) programming language the tool is written in
depends on software (P1547) for tools that run inside a host application rather than standalone, e.g. a QGIS plugin
developer (P178) qualifier series ordinal (P1545) developer. Use series ordinal (P1545) to keep author order. Where only a forge account is known, reconcile the person or organisation via GitHub account (P2037) rather than matching a name string
main subject (P921) thematic subject. Each term needs its own item; free-text tags are not a substitute
official website (P856) project homepage or documentation site
DOI (P356) DOI. A Zenodo deposit DOI usually refers to a release, so it belongs as a qualifier on software version identifier (P348) rather than on the item
described by source (P1343) accompanying paper, as an item. Prefer this over a bare URL: a linked article can be cited, an URL cannot
name (P2561) name as a statement, next to the label. Lets a renamed tool keep its former name with start time (P580)/end time (P582) and a source, which a label cannot
inception (P571) inception. Only when the actual creation date is known, otherwise publication date (P577)
software version identifier (P348) qualifiers version type (P548), publication date (P577), download URL (P4945), DOI (P356) version. Latest version gets preferred rank, older ones keep normal rank -- they do not become false
SoftWare Hash IDentifier (P6138) Software Heritage identifier, where the source code has been archived
described at URL (P973) anything without a property of its own: registry pages, blog posts, videos, and for now the open-archaeo entry page

open-archaeo in Wikidata

[edit]

open-archaeo is a community-curated list of tools for archaeology, maintained as a CSV. Of its 562 entries, 416 fall into the three software categories -- Packages and libraries, Standalone software, Scripts -- and are candidates for modelling here (27/08/2026). The remaining 146 are guides, datasets and specifications and need a different class.

How to find open-archaeo chublets in Wikidata?

[edit]
Property Example/ further qualifiers Explanation
instance of (P31) chublet (Q141115627) always use this: defines it as a chublet (Q141115627) as subclass of Little Minion (Q73899440) belonging to chublets.software (Q141115774)
maintained by WikiProject (P6104) WikiProject chublets.software (Q141169143) always use this: ties the item to this WikiProject.
part of (P361) open-archaeo (Repository) (Q141190255) chublets.software (Q141115774) always use this: link it to open-achaeo and chublets.software
exact match (P2888) https://open-archaeo.info/post/{slug}/ always use this: link it to the open-achaeo URI
collection (P195) open-archaeo (Repository) (Q141190255) always use this: link it to the open-achaeo collection
inventory number (P217) with qualifier collection (P195) {slug} with open-archaeo (Repository) (Q141190255) always use this: link it to the open-achaeo slug

Every imported entry carries the statements from the first table, plus the mapping below. Reconcile against existing items before creating anything: source code repository URL (P1324) is the strongest join key, DOI (P356) the second.

Property Example/ further qualifiers Explanation
instance of (P31) chublet (Q141115627) always use this: defines it as a chublet (Q141115627) as subclass of Little Minion (Q73899440) belonging to chublets.software (Q141115774)
maintained by WikiProject (P6104) WikiProject chublets.software (Q141169143) always use this: ties the item to this WikiProject
source code repository URL (P1324) from github, gitlab, codeberg, gist, bitbucket, launchpad 390 of 416 entries. The forge also supplies the required version control system (P8423) qualifier, and the account name in the URL gives a GitHub account (P2037) route to the developer item
archive URL (P1065) from internetarchive, qualifier archive date (P2960) 222 entries, as a qualifier on source code repository URL (P1324). The snapshot path embeds its own timestamp, so the archive date comes with it
official website (P856) from website 121 entries
CRAN project (P5565) from cran 39 entries. The package name is in the URL, so this is an external identifier rather than a link
PyPI project (P5568) from pypi 1 entry, same principle
DOI (P356) from DOI 34 entries, 24 of them Zenodo deposits -- those describe a release, not the tool
described by source (P1343) from publication 25 entries, 20 of which are DOIs. Model the paper as an item; the DOI is the key that finds it
programmed in (P277) from platform 301 entries whose platform is a language
depends on software (P1547) from platform 34 entries whose platform is a host application, e.g. QGIS, Blender, ArcGIS
instance of (P31) from platform 8 entries whose platform is a delivery form (Mobile app, Web app) -- this refines the class, it is not a platform statement
main subject (P921) from tag1–tag5 59 vocabulary terms, each needing its own item
developer (P178) from author1_name–author6_name, qualifier series ordinal (P1545) 283 distinct values, most of them forge usernames rather than personal names
described at URL (P973) from the open-archaeo entry page interim solution. A dedicated open-archaeo ID property following the swMATH work ID (P6830) precedent would serve better and is worth proposing

Not recorded by open-archaeo at all and therefore not importable from it: copyright license (P275) copyright licence -- the largest single gap, and one that source code repository URL (P1324) expects -- as well as inception (P571), software version identifier (P348) and SoftWare Hash IDentifier (P6138). These have to come from the repositories, the registries or Software Heritage.
