Beyond the various local AI agent/chat options not catering to a specific desktop environment, the GNOME desktop has seen Newelle as an AI app catering to GNOME/GTK4. There's now another local AI option for the GNOME desktop with Moose.

Moose is a native GTK and libadwaita-using app for chatting with AI models via Ollama on Linux. Moose can setup Ollama and handle management of the LLMs. Moose supports loading local documents and images and other integration around the GNOME desktop.

This third-party Moose app for GNOME was announced today via This Week in GNOME. Moose is available on Flathub for those interested while the Rust-based GPLv3 source code is available via GitHub.

This Week in GNOME also highlighted many recent improvements to the GNOME Calendar app to make a better user experience. There is improved calendar management, avoiding the need to restart Calendar, and other improvements. Libadwaita itself also continues seeing improvements. Separately, this week saw the announcement of the new Toolpak project for image-based systems.
