Discussion
[edit]
Comment The enwiki page on this indicates it could be used for shipping as well as airlines, although it doesn't list any specific examples and the page is mostly focused on airlines. It also suggest this designation is somewhat obsolete as many formerly national airlines have privatized, and international routes now enjoy significant competition. Anyway it would be nice to maybe add some examples here to be clearer what is covered (does this include shipping, can one country have multiple flag carriers?) - @ArthurPSmith, this property is only restricted to airlines and one country can multiple flag carriers (like the UAE with Emirates and Eithad Airways) DinhHuy2010 (talk) 03:00, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, I think
Support as proposed, this is fine. ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:59, 10 November 2025 (UTC)

Comment I might be wrong, but wouldn't this be more useful on the country itself? So, Singapore (Q334)flag carrierSingapore Airlines (Q32245). -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 15:44, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
Oppose When I ask ChatGPT whether the term is well-defined or is used by different people to mean different things I get as an answer "“Flag carrier” isn’t one single, universally defined legal category. People use it in a few different ways." A Wikidata property needs a well-defined meaning. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 23:42, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
Oppose Not a clear definition for what a flag carrier is. @User:DinhHuy2010 Who is setting the requirement and criterias for an airline to be a flag carrier?Pmt (talk) 16:15, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
Not done, @ArthurPSmith, ChristianKl, DinhHuy2010, Pmt, Wd-Ryan: No consensus of proposed property at this time based on the above discussion. -- Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 04:23, 5 April 2026 (UTC)
