[edit]

Thank you for contributing to Wikidata. I see that you recently created an item that does not clearly indicate its notability. The Wikidata project only accepts items that meet its notability criteria, and your item is therefore likely to be deleted soon. In brief, items must have an associated Wikipedia article, must be needed for statements on another notable item, or must have both identifiers and serious sources. For the last case, a good indication of notability would be multiple articles about the subject in independent publications like newspapers or magazines. You can add such sources as references to specific claims using reference URL (P854), or as top-level claims using described at URL (P973).

Also, this may not apply in this specific case, but you should know that we discourage editors from self-promotion, contributing on topics with which they have a strong personal connection, as this may present a conflict of interest. If you are being paid to edit here, then you are obliged to disclose this. For a longer version, you might find it useful to read the essay "How to create an item on Wikidata so that it won't get deleted".  -- Ajraddatz (talk) 04:22, 17 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the feedback. I'm curious, why don't you name or link to the exact item (I assume you are talking about Q131450547)?
How do I decide if I should use P854 or P973?
What criteria does a source have to fulfill to be used for either of these properties?
Could I use https://grapheneos.org/articles/positon-location-service as a reference? It's an article that mostly talks about another network location service, but also mentions the one described in Q131450547.
Can I use https://konstantintutsch.com/blog/beacondb-geolocation-on-linux-gnome/?
There's also a table in this Wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_positioning_system#Public_Wi-Fi_location_databases that mentions BeaconDB, can I use that? And should I just link to the entire article, or is there a way to specify the table or the specific row of that table?
Just for clarification: I'm not paid by anyone. BeaconDB is a non-profit FOSS project that doesn't even have the funding to pay people for stuff like this. I'm not associated with the project either. Spiral6800 (talk) 22:20, 17 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

lemmy.world vs lemmy.ml

[edit]

Should only the lemmy.world community/site be set on items? Could you please explain why? Thanks. Prototyperspective (talk) 13:50, 22 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Merge

[edit]

Thank you for your work in maintaining Wikidata. I have a small suggestion to improve your future work. If you notice that two items are duplicates, please merge them instead of blanking one of them. External sites use Wikidata identifiers, so it is important that we preserve the chain of references. We do this by making one item a redirect for the other. In particular, item ids are intended to be a permanent identifier, so we never reuse them for another concept. See Help:Merge for more information on how to merge items, and consider installing the Merge Gadget. Thanks!  Madamebiblio (talk) 23:20, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

StackExchange Mix'n'Match catalog?

[edit]

Hello, thanks for your edits – I noticed you added a Stack Exchange site URL (P6541) via a MnM catalog. I could not find it in the MnM search. Which catalog were you using? Btw, you may be interested in this request. Prototyperspective (talk) 11:40, 8 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I used catalog 3941 ("Stack Exchange site"). I didn't specifically look through that catalog, I used MnM's search feature and just typed in "Craft CMS." I am currently going through some of the items I have previously created or edited and using MnM's search feature to add additional data from multiple catalogs.
Hope that helps :)
Thanks for your amazing work btw, I often see your high-quality contributions and really appreciate them. Spiral6800 (talk) 19:02, 8 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
