Benchmarking Java Performance Of JDK 8 Through OpenJDK 27
With DaCapo Benchmark's Eclipse benchmark, OpenJDK 10 and older failed to run. OpenJDK 21 brought a nice performance improvement here and since then the performance has remained faster than the prior releases. The latest OpenJDK 27 is ever so slightly faster than its predecessors.
Within the GraphChi benchmark, the performance slipped in OpenJDK 16 and then again in OpenJDK 17. OpenJDK 21 again helped improve the performance here and there have been some improvements since including with OpenJDK 26 and 27, but still was trailing the earliest of releases.
In the case of Spring Boot, OpenJDK 27 was as fast as the OpenJDK ~9 days with some regressions since and then on a road to recovery since OpenJDK 20.
Apache Tomcat failed to run on OpenJDK 10 and prior while its performance regressed from OpenJDK 13 through OpenJDK 19 for the out-of-the-box Java run-time performance. Since then the performance has been improving ever so slightly.
With the Batik SVG Toolkit the performance has been improving slightly with almost every OpenJDK release. OpenJDK 27 was the fastest of the releases tested for this Java-based toolkit
OpenJDK 27 was again the fastest, this time with the H2 Database Engine with ever so slight performance improvements over the OpenJDK updates of the past 12 years.
