OpenSUSE developers have announced they are making ZUPT available on their Linux distribution as a solution for providing post-quantum backups. ZUPT combines backup creation, compression, integrity verification, and encryption all via this single open-source utility.

ZUPT provides AES-256-based encryption as well as a hybrid cryptographic scheme based on ML-KEM-768 + X25519. The hope is that ZUPT backups will remain resilient against future cryptographic threats.

ZUPT leverages CPU multi-threading for faster performance during the backup / compression / encryption processes. ZUPT was accepted into openSUSE Factory to become an "officially integrated solution" across the life-cycle of system backups to compression and encryption protection in the openSUSE ecosystem.
