—Storm[source]I am not a goddess because I hold great power. I am a goddess because nothing...no one...controls me.
Ororo Munroe is a powerful mutant with the ability to control the weather and manipulate energies, being usually known as the magnificent windrider Storm.[2] Having been orphaned after a plane crashed on and destroyed her home, the young Ororo became a sneak thief on the streets of Cairo. As a teenager, she travelled through Africa, eventually reaching the Serengeti plains,[51] where she was venerated by the locals as a goddess for using her abilities to ease the droughts in the arid desert. Eventually approached by Professor Xavier, Ororo was baptized Storm to join his X-Men, a mutant group aimed at implementing peace between humans and mutants.[2]
As an X-Man, Storm has had the opportunity to explore the universe in unexpected ways, rising to prominence in the group and being the leader of the team for years.[52] Her challenging experiences have led her to connect herself to violent aspects of her soul she had never believed to possess.[53] After losing her powers,[54] Storm embarked on a journey of self-discovery to reconnect to the source of her abilities.[55][56] Later, she formed her own division of X-Men apart from Xavier's[57] with official sanction as a mutant police force.[58] Storm also has strong ties with the nation of Wakanda, being its former queen due to her marriage to the Black Panther.[59]
With the rise of mutantkind in interplanetary affairs, Storm assumed the position of regent of the newly terraformed Planet Arrako in its ruling faction, the Great Ring.[60] In order to act on behalf of the Arakkii people, she also assembled a Brotherhood,[26] waging battles on a war-torn world.[61] Back on her home planet, Storm has assumed an influential position as a popular mutant figure[21] which included becoming a member of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers.[62]
History
Origin[]
Ororo with her parents
Ororo Munroe is the descendant of an ancient line of African priestesses, all of whom had white hair, blue eyes, and the potential to wield magic.[63][64][65] For many generations her maternal ancestors lived in the hidden village in Kenya and served as its leaders, passing the power from mother to daughter. Her mother, N'Daré, was the tribe's princess and meant to become their next leader, but she rebelled against this tradition and escaped from the village.[66] Instead she went to study in the university, where she met an American student David Munroe. The two fell in love and married.[67] N'Daré followed David to the United States of America, they settled in the Harlem and gave birth to Ororo.[50][68] Accustomed to being treated as a princess, N'Daré felt uncomfortable in America where she was treated badly for her skin color, and convinced David that they shouldn't endure it, and definitely shouldn't let their daughter grow up in such an environment. When Ororo was 6 months old David got an offer for a job in Egypt and the family moved to Cairo.[51][69]
Parents' death
The family lived happily there. N'Daré told her young daughter stories about their lineage of queens and priestesses,[64] and about her grandmother, who had the same white hair and blue eyes and possessed legendary magical skills.[65] N'Daré also showed young Ororo the ancient ruby that was passed in their family from mother to daughter for countless generations.[70] David in turn told her stories about Harlem where they both were born and where they lived before moving to Cairo.[50]
When Ororo was 6 years old, a plane crash destroyed their home. Ororo's parents were killed, but she survived, buried under rubble near their dead bodies. This traumatizing effect left Ororo with the severe claustrophobia that still afflicts her today. Ororo managed to escape the rubble of her shattered home with nothing but the tattered clothes on her back and her mother's ancestral ruby.[51][71][20]
Street Thief[]
Stealing from Charles Xavier
Homeless and orphaned, Ororo was found by a gang of street urchins who took her to their master, Achmed El Gibár. Achmed trained Ororo how to survive on the streets, begging, stealing and picking both pockets and locks.[51][72] At 6 years old,[73] one of her first targets was an American tourist. She stole his wallet, but the man proved no easy mark, as he was Charles Xavier, a powerful mutant telepath who used his abilities to stop the theft. At that moment, Xavier was psionically attacked by another mutant, Amahl Farouk (absolute ruler of Cairo’s thieves), and Ororo used the opportunity to escape. Xavier, who acknowledged she was a mutant from her brainwaves, declined to contact Ororo at this point, not wanting to shock the young girl with the true nature of her powers.[74]
Stealing the Heart of Eternal Darkness
Achmed El Gibár extensively trained Ororo and within a year she became his prize pupil, the best thief in Cairo.[51][72] She stole to live and lived to steal. Itching to prove her skills, Ororo looked for harder targets and new challenges. When she learned about a treasure guarded in a mansion outside of Cairo, young thief infiltrated it and stole the Heart of Eternal Darkness. Unexpectedly once she took away the ruby, entire mansion exploded and killed everyone inside. Ororo managed to escape and proudly returned to her teacher to show-off, but was instead scolded. He took the ruby from her for safekeeping. Unknowingly to both of them, the mansion belonged to an immortal mutant Candra, and the Heart contained her life force and power.[75]
Ororo grew to hate her parents for abandoning her, and even refused to use her real name for several years, preferring to use name "Snow-top" that was given to her by other urchins. When she was 8 years old, she was sent on her first solo mission to steal a box from the museum. She successfully completed the mission and proudly returned to Achmed El Gibár. Inside the box was the photo of Ororo and her parents, and Achmed told her that great thief hides from others, not herself and she should accept her true name. She refused initially, but eventually thanked Achmed, mourned her parents and accepted her name.[5]
With Achmed's urchins
At around 10 years old[76] Ororo became experienced enough for Achmed El Gibár to trust her to lead two other thieves, Hakiim and Nari as a small team. During one of their missions to steal food for all the urchins, Hakiim was almost caught by the guards. Nari believed that it was more important to deliver the food, so she escaped. Ororo stayed behind to save Hakiim, but she couldn't do much to the guards. The kids were saved by their teacher and returned with him to their home, where Nari was bragging how good of a thief she was. Achmed, however, was disappointed and punished her for abandoning her fellow thieves. He also scolded Haikiim for yet another mistake and planned to punish him as well, but Ororo claimed that as the leader it was her fault, so she was punished instead.[64]
Soon, Achmed was hired by Desmond Barrett to steal the Opal of Ozymandias, a legendary magical artifact that allegedly could make its wielder immortal and invincible servant of an ancient mutant Apocalypse. The Opal was hidden in the Pyramids of Giza behind many traps, and was guarded by Apocalypse's eternal servant Ozymandias for thousand of years. Achmed sent Ororo's team into the Pyramids to steal the Opal. They worked together to avoid the traps, eventually reaching the hidden room full of stone statues, one of which was holding the Opal. Nari, took the Opal, but the statue holding it was actually Ozymandias, who animated all the statues to attack the kids.[77]
During the following fight, Ozymandias suddenly stopped when he saw Ororo and actually bowed and apologized to her. Young girl was confused, but Ozymandias explained that he can see the future. He showed her some of the carvings he made, depicting her future and told Ororo that she was destined for great things. She wouldn't remain the street thief forever, she was one of the chosen and one day would soar on the winds and become a savior of her people. He gave her the Opal and allowed the kids to leave. When they almost left the Pyramid a sudden explosion caused the ceiling to collapse. Ororo and Hakiim were buried under the rubble, but Nari managed to escape. She run out of the Pyramid, wanting to find their teacher for help, but was captured by Barrett.[78]
Buried under the rubble, Ororo was reminded about the deaths of her parents. Shock and fear caused her to tap for the first time into her powers and summon wind and lightning that obliterated all the stones around, freeing her and Hakiim. They escaped from the Pyramids and tracked down Barrett. They freed Achmed, Nari and other urchins, whom Barrett planned to sacrifice in order to resurrect Apocalypse. During the battle, Ororo remembered Ozymandias' words about Opal's dangerous power and tricked Barrett to activate it. Unexpectedly it turned him into a stone statue, "invincible and immortal", just like the legends promised.[79]
Travelling through Africa
When she was about twelve, Ororo felt a strong urge to wander south and left Cairo.[51][80] Achmed El Gibár returned the Heart of Eternal Darkness back to her, before she left.[75] She followed the Nile out of Egypt into Sudan, reached Khartoum and continued to Ethiopia, going through many towns and villages on her way.[17][68] During her travels, Ororo naively accepted a ride from a complete stranger and was almost raped by him. Forced to defend herself, Ororo killed the man, and, from that moment, she swore never to take another human life.[81]
Wind Rider[]
She travelled for almost a year[51] and eventually she reached Kenya and joined another group of child thieves. Their Teacher was a good friend of Achmed El Gibár and continued teaching Ororo. Her mutant powers started to manifest and sometimes she subconsciously controlled the wind to assist herself. She was scared by these incidents, as she wanted to be normal. She even stole a wig to hide her attention-grabbing white hair.[69] She became more prudent, and stole only things necessary to survive[18] and those that reminded her about her parents or gave her hope about a better future.[82]
One day Ororo encountered Claude de Ruyter on the streets, he had a camera that awakened Ororo's memories about her photojournalist father, so she stole it. Claude and his followers were armed, and tried to shoot Ororo down. Instinctively she tapped into her powers and summoned the storm, distracting Claude and others long enough to escape. Claude, however, noticed her strange white hair and how her eyes went completely white for a moment, before the lightning strike, so he realized that she was a Wind Rider and decided to capture her no mater the cost.[69]
Ororo and T'Challa
When Ororo returned to the camp of urchins, Teacher scolded her for impulsive actions. Despite being a good thief, better than other urchins and even than him, she had the same problem as her previous teacher Achmed El Gibár — lack of discipline and patience. Zenja, Teacher's own daughter, always disliked Ororo for being treated good by her father, and for being an American, who just pretended to be a child of Africa. She decided to sold out Ororo and help Claude capture her.[69] However, after hearing the constant babbling of Claude and his people about slaves and black people always betraying each other, she changed her mind. Zenja lead them in circles, but they eventually noticed it, so she escaped and cried urchin's secret code to warn Ororo to run away. The girls were almost captured by Claude, but were saved by Prince T'Challa of Wakanda.[20] They returned to the camp, where Ororo noticed how other kids were fawning over T'Challa and girls trying to seduce him.[82] Ororo, however, told him that he wasn't the "prince of Ororo, the king of Munroe". Impressed by her proud unyielding character, T'Challa called her "white lioness". The two left the urchins and spent days together, slowly falling in love and eventually spending the night together.[18]
Meanwhile, Claude contacted his brother, Andreas de Ruyter to get more mercenaries. They tracked down the urchins, mercilessly killed all the kids and the Teacher, leaving only Zenja, who told them that Ororo left with the prince of Wakanda.[18] Claude tracked down and captured Ororo, locked her in a coffin-like container made specifically by his father to suppress and control Wind Rider whom he was trying to capture 30 years ago.[83] Zenja freed Ororo from the coffin, she blamed her for the death of her father and other kids and tried to kill Ororo. As Ororo was claustrophobic, the time she spent in the coffin left her emotionally unstable, she instinctively tapped into her powers and electrocuted Zenja. She then tried to use the same attack on Andreas, but he resisted it. He captured Ororo yet again and used her as a hostage to force T'Challa to surrender. They both were chained and put on helicopter. On their way, Ororo unlocked the chains, but during the following fight Andreas and T'Challa fell out of the helicopter.[83] Ororo jumped after them, using the strong desire to survive and save T'Challa to forcefully awaken her powers. She stroke Andreas with lightning and then summoned powerful wind to hold herself and T'Challa and let them land safely. The helicopter crashed down, killing Claude and setting the village on fire, so Ororo summoned rain to put out the fire. Local people who witnessed everything asked if she was a god.[84]
After these events Ororo and T'Challa travelled together for some time,[17] until one day they accidently encountered Ulysses Klaw, murderer of T'Challa's father. It made T'Challa realize that he spend too much time outside of his country and had to return to fulfill his royal duties and also had to find and kill Klaw. Ororo was enraged by his decision and they break up badly.[67]
Goddess[]
First encounter with X-Men
Ororo continued her travels around Africa, dispensing justice and helping people with her powers.[67] In the Serengeti Plains in Tanzania she was met by the Masai people who told her they have seen "the coming of the Goddess Ororo" in their dreams. She was at first confused, but then accepted this role,[68] and used her powers to help the local tribes combat the drought.[2][85] She settled in the Uzuri village in Kenya on the border with Tanzania, where she was taken in by an elderly tribal woman named Ainet.[86]
Once, when their village was going through a terrible drought, Storm commanded rain for days just to help them. By doing this, she threw off the natural order of nature, and droughts were formed over numerous other villages, and hundreds of animals were killed. Sensing the damage she had done, Ainet taught her to be responsible with her powers and how she could fix the problem by properly distributing rain.[86] Overtime Ororo began to question her role as a goddess.[73]
Worshipped as goddess
During another drought, the villagers formed a dam in the dry river, and Ororo planned to start a rain to fill it with water. However, her control over the storm was hijacked by Deluge. He used his own powers to drastically increase the storm in size, planning to use it to devastate the planet. The plane with the young X-Men, Cyclops, Jean Grey and Beast was caught in the storm and their crashed down. Ororo rescued Beast and brought him to her village. They then reunited with Cyclops and Jean as well and worked together to stop Deluge. Jean telepathically connected minds of Beast and Ororo, Beast explained to her in details how to use water droplets to form a giant lens in the sky and they focused it on Cyclops to let him absorb sunlight and channel it into optic blasts to attack Deluge. Deluge was initially happy to absorb more energy, but was quickly overloaded and then exploded. Ororo bid them farewell, and returned to her village. Beast suspected that she was a mutant, and planned to inform their teacher, Professor Xavier. Jean confirmed that Ororo was a mutant and told the rest that Xavier already knew about Ororo for several years.[87]
For several years she combated the drought in a large area of Kenya and Tanzania,[88][21] from the Serengeti Plains, to Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara[68] and Mount Kilimanjaro,[86] and in all other countries around the Lake Victoria[89] and saved untold number of lives in result. For her actions she was worshipped as a goddess[2][85] and the Wind-Rider, and became a local myth, remembered, respected and worshipped even many years after she left.[88][89]
X-Men[]
Recruited by Charles Xavier
When the original team of the X-Men were captured by the sentient island being, known as Krakoa, Professor Xavier was left with no choice but to recruit Ororo and other mutants from around the world into the X-Men in order to rescue his original students. Xavier explained to Ororo that she was not a "goddess", but a mutant and had a responsibility to use her abilities to help the world, just as she had helped the local tribes. Curious, Ororo accepted Professor Xavier's offer and was given the code name Storm.[2]
After most of the original team left, Ororo, along with fellow new recruits Nightcrawler, Colossus, Wolverine, Thunderbird, and Banshee stayed as members of the new X-Men. This new group of X-Men were mostly adults and trained in the use of their powers in the Danger Room.[90] Storm remained with the X-Men for years. Storm was initially very naïve when it came to the customs of the modern world, but her teammate Jean Grey (Marvel Girl), helped educate her in the ways of society and the pair formed a lasting friendship. Jean was also one of the first X-Men to learn of Storm's claustrophobia, after the two women chased a thief into the subway.[91]
All-New X-Men
Storm’s claustrophobia placed the entire team in danger when they battled Juggernaut and Black Tom Cassidy in Cassidy Keep. In the cellars of the ancient castle, Ororo felt entombed between the walls of solid rocks and went into shock. She could do nothing but cry while her teammates were butchered. Only after all had fallen did she find the strength to fight. However, it was only after the Juggernaut accidentally punched a hole in the wall and she could see the open sky again that she could free the team and turn the tide.[92]
In the Savage Land Storm encountered M'Rin at a dimensional interface point in a body of water. M'Rin and one of her people were in peril, being attacked by an aquatic dinosaur, and Storm saved them, killing the creature. Storm accompanied M'Rin back to her own dimension for a time, where time passed more quickly than on Earth, aiding her in battle and governing her people. Storm and M'Rin became close friends and M'Rin called Storm 'daughter of my heart'. When Storm eventually left M'Rin's dimension, M'Rin gave her a Cameo Crystal that allows Storm to get to M'Rin's dimension.[93]
Leader of the X-Men[]
After serving with the team for many years, Storm was appointed the leader of the team following the departure of the former leader, Cyclops, after the apparent death of Jean Grey. Storm was initially unsure about her new role, but, with the support of her teammates, she soon became a capable leader.[94] Ororo began her friendship with Kitty first, by christening Kitty with her first code-name, Sprite, and even took her dancing at Stevie Hunter's studio.[52]
When Cyclops eventually returned to the team, Storm found herself doubting her leadership abilities once more, after a mission she led went wrong. However, Ororo soon asserted her position, reminding Cyclops that she was now team leader.[95] After sensing that Arkon was in danger, Storm, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four aided him in battling the Badoon. Storm and Arkon admitted their love for each other but decided that their responsibilities were more important.[96]
Later, Emma Frost switched bodies with Ororo, while Sentinels attacked the X-Men. After using Emma’s telepathy, Ororo was able to gain her body back. During a coupe, Ororo helped Cyclops and his father defeat the Sidri and then battled the Brood, Deathbird, and Admiral Samédàr to restore Lilandra Neramani to the Shi'ar throne. After battling in a duel between the Grandmaster and Death, Ororo, with Wolverine, infiltrated the Pentagon, to destroy the files on the X-Men they knew Fred Duncan had and, there, she first met, and battled, Rogue. Later, Ororo was attacked and hospitalized, only to find that Dracula wanted her for his bride. With the help of Kitty and the X-Men, Ororo shed his influence.[97]
Next, the X-Men were sent to the Savage Land, after Angel called and asked for assistance. In the Savage Land, the X-Men were captured, by Sauron and Zaladane, and rescued, by Angel and Ka-Zar.[98] Later, the X-Men went to Limbo, where they battled Belasco and were aided by a future version of Storm that was left in Limbo and trained in magic.[99]
Later, in retaliation, the X-Men were captured and taken into space by the insectoid alien race known as the Brood, Storm fought back but her powers flared out of control. The X-Men discovered that they had been implanted with a Brood egg that would hatch and transform them into one of the aliens. Not wanting to unleash such an evil into the world, Storm attempted to commit suicide by channeling all of the surrounding stellar energy into her own body, destroying the Brood embryo, but leaving her drifting unprotected in space. Ororo would have died in the vacuum had it not been for a member of the Acanti, a race of space-faring, whale-like creatures that had been enslaved by the Brood. The Acanti that saved Storm was revealed to be the caretaker of the soul of his entire race, who had lost his mother to the Brood and needed guidance. Storm agreed to let her consciousness guide the young Acanti, whilst it healed her damaged body, and, after the Brood were defeated, a restored Storm returned home with the X-Men. The X-Men returned home to battle the Brood Queen that was inside of Prof. Xavier and saved his life by transplanting his mind into a cloned body.[100]
After Professor X had a televised debate, with Reverend William Stryker, he, Ororo, and Scott were kidnapped, by the Purifiers. While in captivity, Ororo and Scott were tortured and hooked to machines, operated by Dr. Phillip Ramsey, that transferred their pain to Professor X. After Professor X was brainwashed, he fired mental bolts at Ororo and Scott, seemingly killing them, but Magneto and the X-Men rescued them, and Magneto resuscitated them. Professor X was taken to Madison Square Garden, where he was attached to a machine that, using his brainpower, would kill all living mutants. Magneto, with his psi-shielded helmet, was able to distract the Professor enough for the X-Men to destroy the machine. Televised, Cyclops entered into a debate with Stryker about his actions and Stryker pulled a gun, attempting to kill Kitty. Before he could fire, Stryker was shot down, by a police officer. Later at the mansion, Professor admitted that Magneto was right and began to accept his offer to join, until Scott stopped him and stated that he believed in the Professor's dream and will see it come true.[101]
After sensing Dracula's summons, Ororo went to face him again. Storm was commanded to steal the Montesi Formula and was opposed by a possessed Kitty and Colossus. With the aid of the X-Men, Dracula was defeated.[102]
Dancing in the Dark[]
Ororo vs Callisto
Soon after, the X-Men encountered the underground community of mutants, known as the Morlocks, who had kidnapped one of their former members, Angel. To save her friend, Storm challenged the Morlock leader, Callisto, to a duel and bested her in hand-to-hand combat. As a result, Storm became leader of the Morlocks, and she ordered them to cease their hostilities against the surface-dwelling humans.[103]
When the X-Men later traveled to Japan to attend the wedding of their team member Wolverine, Storm first met the ninja named Yukio and the X-Men battled Viper and Silver Samurai over control of Clan Yashida. A friend of Wolverine's, Yukio was the most carefree spirit that Ororo had ever met and the two became fast friends. Yukio influenced a major rebellious change in Storm's attitude towards life and she took to wearing leather and shaved her hair into a Mohawk.[104]
The X-Men again battled with Mastermind and then the Impossible Man. After, the team battled the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and the Morlocks.[105]
Storm, alongside the X-Men, was part of a group of superheroes that were teleported to Battleworld by the Beyonder.[106]
Lifedeath[]
Ororo and Forge
Storm later had her powers accidentally neutralized by Henry Gyrich with a gun invented by the mutant machinist, named Forge, who took it upon himself to nurse Storm back to health. During her convalescence at Forge’s headquarters in Eagle Plaza in Dallas, Texas, Storm and Forge fell in love, but their relationship was cut short after Storm learned Forge had created the device that stripped her of her powers. Later, alien Dire Wraiths invaded Forge’s headquarters, since he was working on weaponry to be used against them and Naze (Forge's Shaman instructor), Amanda Sefton, and Magik joined with Forge and the X-Men in battling them. Naze faked his demise at the barbed tongue of a Dire Wraith, letting it assume his identity and then fall under the mental control of the Adversary, sparing Naze from this fate.[107] Storm subsequently quit the X-Men and returned to Africa, where she finally came to terms with losing her mutant ability.[55]
When the Wraith home world, Wraithworld, began to approach Earth through hyperspace, the X-Men went to aid Rom and, with the help of Forge, banished them from existence. Before, returning to Cairo, Ororo battled Fenris, Andrea and Andreas von Strucker, in the Serengeti and then joined Prof. Xavier's newest team of young mutants, the New Mutants, in rescuing the body of Karma from being possessed by the Shadow King. During which time, the New Mutants met one of Storm's ancestors, Ashake, who helped the heroes return to their own time. After being briefly possessed herself, Storm and the New Mutants exhumed the Shadow King of Karma and Karma defeated him on the Astral Plane.[108]
While vacationing with the kids later, the group was subsequently captured by the Asgardian trickster God, Loki. After witnessing her battle hordes of demons,[109] Loki sought to use Storm in one of his schemes to discredit his half-brother, the Thunder God Thor, by giving her a hammer, Stormcaster, that would restore her abilities and making her the new Goddess of Thunder. With the aid of the X-Men and the New Mutants, Storm was able to reject Loki's gifts, thus thwarting his plan.[110]
Goddess of Thunder
Storm returned to the X-Men and defeated Fenris, then later found herself being challenged to a duel for leadership of the team by Cyclops. Despite her still being powerless, Storm won, and Cyclops quit the team.[111]
Following this, the X-Men came into conflict with Mojo when he de-aged the team, including Storm, into children. This briefly restored Ororo's powers, and her hair was regrown to its' original appearance, though she lost her powers and went back to her mohawk after she and the others were saved from Mojo's brainwashing by the New Mutants.[112]
Mutant Massacre[]
After battling Malice, Storm and Wolverine investigated the recently bombed home of Sara Bailey, Jean's sister, and Storm was abducted by Crimson Commando, Super Sabre, and Stonewall to be hunted. After defeating the Commando in combat, Storm decided that the X-Men would be more proactive and attack their enemies before they are attacked.[113] Storm suggested that she and Magneto join the Hellfire Club's Inner Circle both as the White King. The union between the Hellfire Club and the X-Men would give the X-Men access to all of the Hellfire Club's government secrets and protect the school, if the Marauders were to attack again. Storm decided that, in order to safeguard their friends and families from their many enemies, the X-Men must fake their deaths and become an underground proactive strike force. After Havok showed up to check on the X-Men, Storm ordered Psylocke to erase the event from his memory, but, due to Professor Xavier's mental defenses, he remembered and, after an initial battle, Havok asked Magneto to accept him as an X-Men and joined the team.[114]
The team was later abducted by Horde, to use as his lackeys to retrieve the Crystal of Ultimate Vision, of which he wore a shard on his forehead. The X-Men were sent to the Citadel of Light and Shadow, where the crystal was hidden. As the X-Men progressed through it, the citadel created illusions of each of their most powerful desire. Only Storm, Wolverine, and Psylocke were able to resist and, empowered to godhood, Wolverine rejected the god-like power and returned the X-Men and their friend's home.[115]
Unwilling to watch her die, Magneto went to Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) of the Fantastic Four to use a device that Mr. Fantastic had built to save Shadowcat.[116] Unsure of the outcome, Mr. Fantastic refused to help Kitty, even after the X-Men begged him, and the X-Men and Fantastic Four briefly battled, after Human Torch burned Storm's arm.[117] At that time, Dr. Doom presented his assistance and, under duress, Storm accepted.[118] At the urging of Franklin Richards, Kitty was cured by the combined efforts of Dr. Doom and Mr. Fantastic.[119]
Fall of the Mutants[]
Soon, Storm realized that she needed her powers restored and so she sought out Forge for his help. Ororo found Forge's old mentor Naze instead, who informed her that Forge had been corrupted by his nemesis, the Adversary, and was seeking to destroy the world. Unbeknownst to Storm, the Adversary had actually corrupted the Naze look-alike after the battle with the Dire Wraiths.[120] After a Vision Quest with Naze/Adversary, Storm finally located Forge atop a mountain, seemingly opening a dimensional portal filled with demons. Storm stabbed Forge in the chest, but then realized that he had been attempting to close the portal, not open it.[121] The Adversary then trapped Storm and Forge in the other dimension and seized control of Dallas, warping time and space in order to foment chaos on Earth. Storm and Forge spent a year on an alternate Earth, during which time they made peace and admitted their love for one another. During this time, Ororo grew her hair long again. Forge used components from his cybernetic leg to fashion a new device that restored Storm's ability to use her powers, which she then used to energize a portal back to their own world.[122]
Ororo and Forge rejoined the X-Men and were captured in Roma's Starlight Citadel that the Adversary had taken over. Ororo was released and, with the X-Men, gave her life to imprison the Adversary, with a spell used from Forge. However, the Omniversal Guardian, named Roma, restored the X-Men to life and freed the Adversary under the notion that there could be no order without chaos. The events had been broadcast over a live television news feed and the world believed the heroes to be dead. After being resurrected, the X-Men decided to use the opportunity to go underground and keep their rebirth secret.[123]
The X-Men resurfaced in Australia, where they defeated the Reavers. Roma appeared and presented them with the Siege Perilous, a gem that created a portal which granted any person who walked through it judgment and a new chance at life, with a new career, home, and so forth and had magically made them invisible to any sort of mechanical perception. Storm made another change in her outfit, replacing her leather jacket with a black suit with a lightning bolt across her chest.[124] The drastic changes the X-Men underwent sparked in Ororo Munroe a need to reconnect with her roots. Through Gateway's teleporting powers, she covertly integrated herself into the community of Harlem, her birthplace. She befriended Ezra Keith, an activist for Black rights in the neighborhood, who nicknamed her Blue, after her dark skin. Through several different encounters, Blue established many connections with the people of Harlem.[125]
After Storm's Cameo Crystal sensed a disturbance, Storm left in the middle of the night without explanation to the Savage Land. Upon arrival, the Savage Land was scorched and barren and the X-Men followed and battled Garrok, in the armor of Terminus. After the initial battle, Longshot was lost and Storm's Cameo Crystal opened a portal to M'Rin's dimension, where Longshot was and the Fall People escaped to. Together with M'Rin's people, the High Evolutionary, and the Fall People, the X-Men separated Garokk from Terminus and with his sacrifice, restored the Savage Land.[126]
Lil 'Ro[]
Lil 'Ro and Gambit
Soon after, the X-Men were ambushed at their hideout, by the crazed scientist known as Nanny and her partner, the Orphan-Maker. After attempting to flee, Storm chased Nanny's craft and was caught in tentacles, while Havok fired a plasma burst and downed the craft. A S.H.I.E.L.D. L.M.D. of Storm was found to ensure that the X-Men would not follow and Storm was assumed dead.[127] Storm was captured by Nanny, who sought to use Storm's abilities in her quest to liberate the world's super-powered children by making orphans of them. Nanny used her technology to de-age Storm to her pre-teens and strip her memories, so as to better sway the mutant to her cause. However, Storm fought back and overloaded Nanny's device. Once more a child with no memories of her life as an X-Man, the young Storm returned to her life as a thief. On one caper, Ororo found herself the target of the psychic being known as the Shadow King, but was saved by a fellow mutant and thief, named Gambit. The pair formed a partnership and, after Storm regained her memories, she took Gambit to meet the X-Men.[128]
Storm was eventually restored to adulthood after the X-Men were captured by agents of the island nation of Genosha who used mutants as slaves. Storm underwent the mutate transformation process, however, the Genoshan Genegineer and Chief Magistrate were members of a rebel faction. They restored Storm's body and mind, and the X-Men were able to defeat their aggressors.[129]
Back to Basics[]

Under Professor X's guidance, X-Men and X-Factor were united, with Storm and Cyclops leading relatively independent squads, respectively baptized Gold and Blue teams. Alerted by Nick Fury, Cyclops' team investigated Magneto's recent activities and clashed with his Acolytes.[130] Abducted to Asteroid M with Professor X and Moira, the X-Men were mindwiped to serve Magneto's cause. Storm prepared her squad to war against Magneto and the X-Men despite all the evident odds, with Forge providing the necessary technical support for the mission.[131] As the two squads of X-Men battled each other, Cyclops and his teammates overcame the brainwashing. Together, the X-Men thwarted Magneto's plans and returned home safe and sound following Asteroid M's destruction and Magneto's apparent demise.[132]
Contacted by Emma Frost about the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club being targeted for assassination, Storm deployed the X-Men to help, despite the bad blood she had shared with Frost in the past. The X-Men could not prevent a massacre by the time-travelling criminal Trevor Fitzroy, whose Sentinels murdered Frost's students, the Hellions. In the tragedy, Jean Grey fell in battle.[133] Lamenting the death of her friend, Storm was informed by Professor X that Grey's psyche had survived in Frost's body, which had been claimed by Fitzroy as a trophy for his associates, the Upstarts. The X-Men came to her rescue, fighting Fitzroy's army of criminals from the future.[134] Unexpectedly, an enforcer from the future named Bishop and his colleagues from X.S.E. interrupted the battle, leading Fitzroy to escape. Storm reprimanded Bishop for his reckless actions, but was still intrigued by his existence and cause.[135] Later, Bishop hunted down Fitzroy's gang of criminals with extreme brutality, catching Storm's attention. In his war, his comrades were killed and he was subdued by the X-Men. Professor X decided to have him join the ranks of the X-Men[136] under Storm's tutelage. His acclimatization was challenging since Storm opposed to violence as the immediate solution to problems; despite this, he was open to learn from her.[137]
Her obligations as a team leader deteriorated Storm's relationship with Forge, who was distant in his routine as an assistant to the X-Men. Unable to connect with Storm, Forge surprised her by asking her hand in marriage.[138] However, Forge grew uncertain of Storm's actual feelings for him and chose to leave the X-Men before she could accept his proposal. Their relationship ended tragically, even though Storm had decided to accept him as her husband.[139] It took them some time to overcome their hurtful break-up and see each other amicably again.[140]
In another mission, Storm had the X-Men assess a dangerous spatial distortion in Sakhalin. As a consequence, the team happened upon an alternate plane known as the Void.[141] Separated from the rest of her squad, Storm met Mikhail Rasputin, Colossus' long-time lost brother, who had gone missing in an operation as a cosmonaut. He informed her about the cataclysmic nature of the distortion through which the X-Men went through to access the Void.[142] With the X-Men reunited, Storm advised the traumatized Rasputin brothers to reestablish their relationship. This gave Mikhail Rasputin the inspiration to use his mutant powers to stabilize the Void access and bring himself and Storm's X-Men back to Earth.[143] Some time later, Callisto sought help in Storm and the X-Men as the leaderless and insane Morlocks tormented her to rejoin them. As a leader of the Morlocks, Storm took the responsibility of their crisis for herself.[144] The X-Men were able to stop the Morlock telepath who had triggered their chaotic behavior in the Morlock Tunnels.[134] However, an insane Callisto joined forces with Mikhail Rasputin to seize control of the Morlocks again. Rasputin flooded the Morlock Tunnels and chose to transport them to an alternate plane where they would not suffer discrimination for being different. The X-Men could not stop him, and Storm returned home to mourn the loss of her former protégés.[145]
The machinations of the vile Stryfe involved infecting Professor Xavier with the Techno-Organic Virus and kidnapping Jean Grey and Cyclops.[146] Storm led her team to look for Apocalypse and his Horsemen, who were assumed to be responsible for the kidnappings.[147] Apocalypse was defeated,[148] and with him lied a chance to cure Xavier and confront Stryfe. Storm made the difficult choice of trusting Apocalypse[149] and ultimately thanked him for his contribution.[150] In a final strike, the X-Men triumphed.[151] However, as a consequence, the deadly Legacy Virus was released upon mutantkind by Stryfe.[152] As the Legacy Virus punished mutantkind, Storm had her team oppose the villainous actions of known adversaries in the form of the Acolytes and the Upstarts,[153] as well as new threats such as the anti-mutant X-Cutioner.[154]
While flying the Blackbird after collecting Vibranium from the Savage Land, Storm, Cyclops and Professor Xavier were attacked by Siena Blaze, whose spatial-disruptive powers tore Storm's connection to the environment. With no control over the frigid Antarctic weather, Storm collapsed, but was assisted by Xavier in regaining control. The X-Men recuperated to defeat Siena Blaze, having secret assistance from Magneto,[155] who was revealed to be alive, but also ready to get revenge upon humanity once again. Around this period, Storm spoke on the funeral of the young Illyana Rasputin, Colossus' sister who had fallen to the Legacy Virus. During the ceremony, Magneto and his Acolytes publicly revealed their extremist plans of endangering the world and building a haven for mutants in Avalon. The disillusioned Colossus defected and turned against the X-Men much to their horror.[156] Not only Colossus fell to darker ways, but also Xavier. He assigned Storm to betray their human allies and steal cloaking technology that was crucial to gain advantage against the Magneto. Storm became frustrated with Xavier,[73] who weaponized the stolen data to brutally put an end to Magneto by mentally incapacitating him.[157]
Reconnecting with her loved ones brought new enemies to Storm's life. When meeting Yukio in New York City, she was ambushed by the Phalanx, anti-mutant techno-organic creatures who targeted human allies of the X-Men to incapacitate them.[158] The two dear friends overcame the Phalanx with help from Gambit, though Storm questioned the morality of taking away her enemies' artificial lives.[159] On another occasion, Storm revisited Cairo to meet a terminal Achmed El Gibár. When sharing her feelings with her mentor and parental figure, El Gibár was attacked by the vile Candra, who wished to incorporate El Gibár's band of thieves to her operations. As his last wish, El Gibár asked his former pupil Ororo to prevent his children from being corrupted, especially the young man named Jamil who Candra had seduced for her cause. Alongside the X-Men, Storm fended off Candra and her army, but Jamil was lost. Achmed El Gibár passed away, and Storm trained the courageous Karima, whom she related to, to carry on his legacy as the leader of the young pack of thieves of Cairo.[160]
Gene Nation[]
On the rise of anti-mutant sentiment, Storm had the X-Men investigate odd incidents concerning mutant attacks. They were then introduced to Gene Nation, a group of extremist terrorist mutants.[161] They were descendants of the Morlocks who Mikhail Rasputin had transported to another plane. In an accelerated timeline, the younger generation of Morlocks came to age enraged at the previous world that had failed them, wishing to have revenge at humanity for the massacre caused by the Marauders. As the Gene Nation, they returned to bring terror, being led by the ruthless Marrow. A desperate Callisto followed them and asked Colossus for help, who, in turn, resorted to the X-Men. In the Morlock Tunnels, Storm led the X-Men against Gene Nation. Blaming Storm's inefficiency as the leader of the Morlocks for their tragic history, Marrow attached several human victims to explosives. The detonator was placed inside her own heart. In a hand-to-hand duel against Marrow, Storm was challenged to finish her to save the hostages. Seeing no alternative, Storm ripped Marrow's heart out of her chest.[162]
Following this incident, Storm was tormented by thoughts of having failed the Morlocks, considering her decisions as a leader reckless for long-term consequences. In the ruins of the Morlock Tunnels, she performed the ritual known as the Ceremony of Light to honor the victimized Morlocks. This attracted the attention of Mikhail Rasputin, who abducted her to the realm he had taken the Morlocks to.[23] The X-Men were informed about her being dead by Cable, who was ultimately convinced to investigate her disappearance. In the harsh world known as The Hill, Storm struggled to tame the atmosphere, until succeeding in arriving at a fortress where Rasputin met her and offered her to guide Gene Nation at his side,[163] an opportunity she contemplated to make up for her past negligence. However, Rasputin was the real mastermind behind their terrorist acts and wished to destroy X-Factor's Headquarters.[164] Having turned against Rasputin alongside Callisto, Storm threatened to execute him if he did not transport her back to Earth, which was done as Cable performed the Ceremony of Light. All inhabitants of the Hill marched to the Morlock Tunnels, where Storm deactivated the bomb and knocked Mikhail Rasputin out. Callisto attacked Storm for her intervention, but was defeated as well, although saved by a very much alive Marrow. Rasputin ran away, afraid of displeasing his master Dark Beast. The Gene Nation ultimately demonstrated respect for Storm for her power and were granted a second chance. Rejoined to the X-Men, Storm was at peace for having solved the dire situation without resorting to murder.[165]
X-Treme X-Men[]
X-Treme X-Men
Distrusting Xavier's idealism in regards to the prophetic diaries written by the seer Destiny that mapped the future of mutants, Storm gathered a splinter group of X-Men in order to look for the missing volumes. She cut ties with the rest of the team for her operation and subjected her team to the laws of humanity by leaving the protection of the Xavier Institute.[166] As their baptism of fire, Storm's X-Men were ambushed and captured by the Spanish Guardia Civil in Valencia. This was a trap envisioned by Vargas, a rival who had also had access to Destiny's Diaries.[57] Although Storm led her team to freedom during the battle, Vargas was able to slay Psylocke and brutally maim Beast.[167]
After this tragedy, Storm and the X-Men helped a community of Saurids to reach the Savage Land.[168] There, Storm was separated from the team during a plane crash and got kidnapped by the vengeful Brainchild of the Savage Land Mutates.[169] Brainwashed to be his emissary, Storm was devolved into a vicious and feral creature who attacked her teammates.[170] Beast defeated her and caused Brainchild's defeat. However, Storm was left scarred by such an encounter for having embraced savage aspects of her soul.[171]
Still mourning their losses when searching for Destiny's Diaries, the X-Men learned that Gambit had been accused of murdering the Australian crime boss Viceroy.[172] In their investigation, the X-Men realized Viceroy had feuds with the criminal Sydney Triad. Storm and Thunderbird approached Viceroy's mutant children, Heather and Davis Cameron, who were not aware of their father's identity. Storm helped Davis Cameron survive a shark attack while he was surfing and they started a flirtatious interaction. During a date, they were attacked by the Triad.[173] After defeating the assassins, Storm and Thunderbird revealed their identities and intentions to the Camerons and joined the other X-Men in combat against Sebastian Shaw and Lady Mastermind, who had subdued Sage. Storm then coped with the weight of the recent events with her friend Jean Grey's help.[174]
Cleared of the charges, Gambit shared he sought to guard Storm's mother's ruby as he had learned it was part of the legendary Madripoor Set of gems. When empowered, the set could open a portal between dimensions. However, the extradimensional warrior named Shaitan suddenly attacked the X-Men, securing Gambit and the ruby. The X-Men followed them to Madripoor, being greeted by its ruling prince Viper. Using the gems and Gambit's mutant ability to empower them, Shaitan opened a portal that allowed the armies of his superior, Khan, to pass through and invade Earth.[175] The X-Men captured Khan being unaware that he was the general in charge of the invasion. Khan became infatuated with Storm, especially after she saved him from Viper. As Shaitan led a successful mission to retrieve Khan, Storm was poisoned by Viper, something that allowed Khan to turn Storm into his prisoner.[175]
Warlord Khan intended for Storm to be his queen and commanded his physicians to heal her while Shaitan assumed her form to trick the X-Men. Growing to admire Khan,[176] Storm attempted to seduce him into calling off his invasion whilst her teammates fought to close the portal.[177] Unexpectedly, one of Khan's concubines, Jalene, grew jealous of Storm's advances and attempted to kill her by stabbing her with a dagger. Despite her severe injuries, Storm prevailed[178] and escaped, rejoining her teammates to destroy the interdimensional portal.[179] Following a final hand-to-hand confrontation against Khan, Storm was victorious and the X-Men saved Earth.[180]
As part of her subsequent recuperation, which required her to undertake physical therapy to heal her back and legs, Storm was confined to a wheelchair and counted with Wolverine's direct nursing. Jean Grey asked her team to move back to the core X-Men team at the Xavier Institute, but Storm declined, believing that there was still work for her team to do away from Xavier's influence.[181] Around this period, Storm's X-Men became the focus interest of the tabloid Spotlight. They were interviewed by correspondents Manoli Wetherell and Neal Conan as Spotlight's producer, Paul D'Antoni, wished to portray the X-Men as a threat to the world.[182] Unsuccessfully attempting to reason with D'Antoni, Storm learned his show had been cancelled due to the actions of the influential X-Man Archangel, head of one of Xavier's X-Corporation divisions. Storm exposed Archangel's secret actions to the public as a way to punish him for using X-Corp's privileges to operate under the radar in regards of mutant-human relations.[183]
The schism between Xavier's shady actions and Storm's mission under the human law escalated when a mutant pre-teenage teleporter named Jeffrey Garrett was framed for murder in Anchorage. Xavier Institute's headmistress Emma Frost sabotaged Storm's team's investigation to protect the suspect.[184] This allowed the real mastermind behind the murder, the mutant psychic predator Elias Bogan, to gain access to the X-Men.[185] A recovered Storm and her team took matters to their own hands by invading the Xavier Institute, where Bogan used the Danger Room in order to implement his plans of dominating Frost.[186] Storm and Frost ultimately called a truce to stop Bogan's attack. Though successful, they could not capture him.[187]
After being contacted by and recruiting Cannonball for her team,[188] Storm learned about Reverend Stryker escaping prison.[189] While investigating the incident, the X-Men were targeted by Purifiers; Storm used her powers to incapacitate them, but her control was disrupted by Kitty Pryde's effect on Earth since Stryker had used her abilities to carry out his plans. By tracking Pryde,[190] the X-Men infiltrated a mutant community in Mount Haven, where Reverend Paul used brainwashing to keep peace.[191] Storm was initially mind-controlled, but ultimately freed by Cannonball.[192] In the end, both Stryker and Paul sacrificed themselves and the X-Men departed.[193]
X.S.E.[]
X.S.E.
During a world summit organized by Val Cooper to address the increasing hostilities between humans and mutants, Storm and Gambit furtively attempted to influence its outcome.[194] Attracting the attention of different politicians and government agents, Storm shared her intentions of protecting mutantkind from unfair institutional prosecution and offered her X-Men's services to the United Nations as a global mutant police force.[195] The proposal was approved, and Storm became in charge of a sanctioned strike force in the form of the X-Treme Sanctions Executive, or X.S.E.[196]
Before X.S.E. was officially established, Alexei Vazhin asked Storm to dismantle a slave-trading network linked to Tullamore Voge that forced mutants to fight in gladiator-style arenas.[196] In Tokyo, Storm contacted Yukio for help. They joined the Arena Circuit and became gladiators managed by Masato Koga. Storm soon ascended as a champion of the Tokyo Arena for having defeated Musclehead.[197] She was then contacted by Guido Carosella, a fellow gladiator who wished to protect her from being corrupted by the arena battles. Fighting for Koga, Storm confronted a champion from another arena, Callisto.[198] By losing the fight, Storm became a property of Callisto's owner, the former Morlock Masque. Masque used his powers to torture Storm.[199] For weeks, Storm acted as Masque's gladiator. Ultimately, Masque forged a deal with Tullamore Voge to sell Storm and Callisto as slaves. They then rebelled against Masque with Yukio's and Carosella's help, tricking him during the trade and shipping him for Voge instead and liberating the Arena's gladiators.[200]
Storm and Callisto returned to her X-Men, who at the time resisted Elias Bogan in Valle Soleada.[201] With Bogan gone, Storm and her team returned to Westchester to help rebuild the Xavier Institute following its destruction at the hands of a Magneto doppelgänger who had also murdered Jean Grey. Assembling her team, she offered them a position in the X.S.E.,[202] which some accepted. The rebranded team operated at the Xavier Institute. In one of their first assignments, X.S.E. clashed with the Weaponeers of Al-Khalad in the Central Saharan Republic.[58] In Washington, D.C., X.S.E. tended to an incident regarding a mutant teenager at a high school. Though facing adversities with local officers, Storm counted with Carol Danvers' assistance in earning credibility for X.S.E.[203]
Storm and her X.S.E. faced many different opponents, such as the cybiote hunter known as the Fury at Braddock Manor,[204] a vengeful Viper in the Murderworld of London,[205] the lethal X-23 in District X,[206] and the Hellfire Club's changing leaderships.[207] Unexpectedly, the Guardia Civil informed Storm about Psylocke's resurrection at the site of her death. Soon after, when looking for a missing Wolverine, the group was kidnapped by the Hauk'ka to the Savage Land. Psylocke and X-23 went to their rescue.[208] Meanwhile, the Hauk'ka attached Storm to a mechanism that tapped into her powers in order to freeze the world and obliterate life on it.[209] As the world succumbed to a brutal ice age, the X-Men freed Storm with Brainchild's help. However, the traitorous Brainchild tampered with Storm's genome in order to maintain the global freezing effect. Storm attempted to have X-23 finish her and stop the threat. Instead, the regretful Hauk'ka decided to stop the uncontrollable Storm.[210] Back home, Storm was reunited with her recently resurrected friend Colossus.[211]
Wild Kingdom[]
Ororo and T'Challa
Following reports of mutant animals spawning in Niganda, the X-Men went to investigate. Storm personally interacted with locals to retrieve information and eventually ran into Black Panther.[212] They battled the mad geneticist Dr. Erich Paine, who was behind the experiments on animals and managed to capture the X-Men while Storm and Black Panther dealt with raising tensions in Niganda.[213] Black Panther was targeted by Paine's partner, the Red Ghost, but was helped by his Dora Milaje, something that caused Storm to grow jealous. Storm became divided between immediately rescuing the X-Men or following Black Panther's risky plans. Storm went for the X-Men,[214] leaving Black Panther vulnerable instead. With Paine defeated and his plans foiled, the X-Men returned home, but Storm chose to stay in Africa to reconnect with her past and assist the people in need. Sharing a passionate kiss with Black Panther, she predicted their paths might cross again.[215]
Following the events of "M-Day," when the majority of the world's mutants lost their powers at the hands of the Scarlet Witch, Storm left the X-Men to return to Africa in order to safeguard depowered mutants. With the mutant population vastly reduced, X.S.E. was dismantled.[216] In Africa, Storm came into conflict with a Colonel named Shetani, who was hunting down and killing depowered mutants in search for Storm. When she finally confronted him, he revealed to her that he was her uncle. Afterward, Shetani told Storm of a hidden village in Northwest Kenya where she met her grandmother for the first time.[217][66] This finally prompted her to accept the Black Panther's marriage proposal.[218]
Queen of Wakanda[]
At the wedding of Storm and the Black Panther, Iron Man and Captain America showed up but leaving before the ceremony because neither of them could stand the sight of each other. Earlier, Charles Xavier made an appearance, telling Storm that as the queen of Wakanda, she was now the most important mutant in the world, and the living symbol of human/mutant relations. A role he believed she was born to play. When they were married, their essences were taken to the spirit world to seek the approval of the Panther God. Storm soon found she couldn't use her power in this plane. The Panther God accepted her into T'Challa's family.[59]
Storm in her wedding dress
Following their honeymoon, Storm immersed herself in global diplomatic affairs at her husband's side. They visited to Latveria, Attilan, and Atlantis, with conversations consistently veering towards the United States and the possible ramifications of the Superhuman Registration Act. T'Challa and Ororo sought an audience with the American president to discuss it, but presidential staff declined to engage with them until Storm endorsed the Registration Act, as being an American with powers she would be breaching the Act if she refused. Refusing to be coerced, Ororo and T'Challa left without getting an audience. A Sentinel operator launched an attack on the couple near the White House where registration supporters and opponents had gathered, prompting Black Panther and Storm to announce that something must be done regarding the Act.[219]
They stayed in New York at the Wakandan Embassy, aiming to petition the United Nations and other countries to apply diplomatic pressure on the US to abandon the Act. Simultaneously, Wakanda secretly provided assistance to Captain America and his Secret Avengers, unregistered vigilantes opposing the Act. Ororo confronted the cybernetic clone of Thor who, though not a true god, was immensely powerful. His lightning demolished the Wakandan Embassy while Storm fought to give the staff time to evacuate. When Captain America yielded at the end of the crisis, Ororo and T'Challa were left to object the Superhuman Registration Act on their own.[220]
Fantastic Four[]
Storm with Fantastic Four
With the Wakandan Embassy destroyed, Storm and Black Panther were offered asylum at the Fantastic Four's Baxter Building. Coincidentally, Reed and Sue Richards took a leave of absence from the Fantastic Four to reconcile their relationship, which had been damaged due to their position in regards to the Superhuman Civil War. As such, Storm and Black Panther replaced them in the team.[221][222] Storm quickly adapted her attitude as a superhero to fit the expectations of the public opinion in regards to the celebrated Fantastic Four. In their first adventure, the new Fantastic Four marched to space to investigate the desecration of the grave of the young martyr Gravity,[223] who was to become Epoch's new Protector of the Universe. Their path crossed with that of the world-eater Galactus and his Heralds.[224] With the Fantastic Four's help, Epoch and Gravity were protected from the ire of Galactus.[225]
As a member of the Fantastic Four, Storm maintained close ties with her allies in the X-Men. When Masque resurfaced and performed terrorist attacks with his band of extremist Morlocks, Caliban sought for sanctuary in the Xavier Institute. Xavier contacted Storm to assist in the crisis.[226] Despite her struggle with her claustrophobia, she led a team of X-Men to the sewers to stop Masque's brutal agenda. There, the X-Men found predictions made by a seer named Qwerty about the immediate and dreadful future of mutantkind.[227] During the investigation, Masque and his Morlocks attacked, causing the tunnels to collapse. In horror, Storm was trapped beneath tons of debris.[228] Caged within a wooden coffin, Storm was tortured by Masque, who orchestrated a major attack against humans on the surface. Summoning the elements, Storm easily broke free and led the X-Men to put an end in the Morlocks' activities.[229]
Back to the Fantastic Four, Storm joined her teammates when Sue Richards was kidnapped by the Frightful Four led by the Wizard.[230] Having come to her rescue, the team was horrified by the Black Panther's nemesis, Klaw, being revived. The Frightful Four was defeated. However, during this rescue mission, the Fantastic Four were informed that the universe was going to collapse due to the intervention of the chaotic creatures known as the Contrasepsis.[231] The cosmic destruction was a reaction caused by Eternity himself. With Doctor Strange's intervention, Eternity's consciousness was stored within Storm's mind, which allowed Gravity to restore the damage. The universe was saved and the Fantastic Four returned home, to Baxter Building. With the return of Reed and Sue Richards, Storm and the Black Panther revealed they had joined the group to give the Richards a deserved vacation and, then, departed.[232]
Ororo and her husband later returned home, where the Wakandans had realized that the Skrulls had infiltrated their population. When the first ground troops arrived and were shot down, a ground battle commenced. T'Challa ordered Storm to "stick to the plan" and departed quickly, leaving her husband behind. The Skrulls were led to believe that they had captured Storm and her husband, when in fact that the Ororo and T'Challa they had been Skrulls. The true Storm and Black Panther killed the head of the army sent after them, K'vvvr, and sent the ship back to the Skrull homeworld, full of dead Skrulls and with a message written in blood: "This is what happens when you invade Wakanda".[233]
Worlds Apart[]
Following the destruction of the Xavier Institute and the dissolution of the X-Men,[234] Cyclops relocated mutantkind to San Francisco, where he founded Graymalkin Industries. In need of reconnecting to her allies, Storm rejoined the X-Men, parallel to her duties as the queen of Wakanda. The X-Men investigated a mysterious death that seemed to be related to artificially created mutants.[10] After following a trail from Chaparanga to Tian, Storm and the X-Men learned Forge was behind the macabre creatures.[235] On Wundagore Mountain, the X-Men confronted Forge, who revealed his true madness.[236] As a result of his research to restore the mutant population, Forge endeavored to deploy Ghost Boxes, trans-dimensional teleporters, to destroy multiversal interlopers. He forcibly activated his own Ghost Box, putting Earth under danger. The X-Man Beast incited S.W.O.R.D. director Abigail Brand into obliterating the device and the threatening alternate reality. When Storm attempted to reason with Forge and save him, he rejected her and mocked her marriage. In horror, Storm watched the man she once loved remain in his doomed citadel as it was destroyed.[237]
The Black Panther indirectly financed the X-Men by supporting the Mutantes Sans Frontières.[10] As such, he closely monitored mutant-related crises. When apparent mutant births caused issues in Mbangawi, in Africa, he contacted Storm to inform the X-Men about it. She guided the team, who were welcomed by Doctor Crocodile's forces with hostility.[238] After evading the troopers, the X-Men tended to the nurseries afflicted by the mutant activations. Storm comforted the victims. Beast identified the births were related to energies from a Ghost Box. In fact, the babies were Warpies[239] whose condition was triggered by the mutant Jim Jaspers, who came from a reality patrolled by Furies. Storm chose to protect Jaspers as the Furies proved to be unstoppable threats.[240] The Furies were tricked by the X-Men into leaving. However, Doctor Crocodile still eliminated Jaspers, much to Storm's disappointment. This caused her to reconsider the stances of many unprivileged African governments in relation to global crises.[89]
Storm vs Wakanda
As the queen of Wakanda and a prominent mutant agent, Storm struggled to mediate her different responsibilities. In Wakanda, she was informed her former protégé Gentle had been restrained for murder. Soon, she realized the Shadow King had been orchestrating her downfall by mentally controlling several of her allies, including Cyclops and the Black Panther.[11] Having run away with Gentle, Storm was able to incapacitate Cyclops and the Dora Milaje, but still had to face the Shadow King in her husband's body.[241] Having bested the Shadow King, Storm was outmatched by the Wakandan army. In desperation, she communed with the Panther God in order to assert her rightful position as monarch of Wakanda.[242] With Wakanda safe, Storm and Gentle marched to San Francisco to protect the X-Men from a brainwashed Cyclops. As the psychic monster tortured the X-Men, Storm once again dueled Cyclops. With the assistance of the God Panther, the Shadow King was destroyed. As she witnessed her loved ones recuperate, Storm realized she was capable of providing support to her two different worlds.[243]
Doomwar
This commitment proved to be short-lived following an assassination attempt against the Black Panther, performed by Doctor Doom. Storm distanced herself from the X-Men by focusing on nursing her husband back to health, while he was replaced by his younger sister, Shuri as regent of Wakanda and the Black Panther.[244] Public opinion about Storm was damaged as disastrous droughts with unexplainable motivation emerged in Wakanda.[245] Attacked by local communities, she was questioned for her situation as a mutant and a foreigner.[246] Placed under arrest, Storm was convinced by her husband to surrender and prevent a political incident. This was part of a complex scheme by Doctor Doom to invade Wakanda with help of the dissident faction known as the Desturi.[247] The act led to a coup d'etat, reinforced by the public trial of Storm. Caged in a cell that neutralized her powers, Storm was incapacitated by the Desturi. Doom wished for the precious Wakandan Vibranium. As Storm lockpicked her way out of her cell, he greeted her in order to have access to the Vibranium vaults.[248]
The Black Panther recruited the X-Men to assist him and his sister free their country. However, although Storm was saved, Doctor Doom managed to leave with the Vibranium supplies.[249] As Black Panther and the Fantastic Four studied a way to recover the stolen metal, Storm dealt with the remnants of the Desturi in Wakanda.[250] Storm and Shuri retaliated alongside the Dora Milaje, but Doom's forces massacred their army.[250] On the Isle of Kastro, Storm battled mechanical monstrosities deployed by Doom. Despite Wakanda's effort, Doctor Doom was able to empower himself using magic and Vibranium.[251] The Black Panther and his allies joined forces to oppose Doom. In an unpredictable outcome, the Black Panther rendered all Vibranium on Earth inert to depower his enemy. Storm proceeded to obliterate the army of robots Doctor Doom controlled. Although Wakanda was in peace, their main richness was utterly extinguished.[252]
Utopia[]
The X-Men relocated under Cyclops' guidance to the island community of Utopia to evade Osborn's influence in the continent.[253] In this setting, the mutant messiah Hope surfaced in the present with Cable, sparking a war against Bastion's Human Council for her safety.[254] With Bastion destroyed and Hope safe, new mutant activations occurred around the globe. However, terrible costs came with this outcome, Nightcrawler was killed in actiong against Bastion, and Cyclops' extremist approach to protect his race was exposed to the X-Men. Storm debated with Wolverine about the immorality of the secret team of killers X-Force, indicating her disappointment with how perverted Xavier's original vision had become.[255] Storm continued supporting the X-Men. She accompanied Hope in rescuing Idie Okonkwo, a young girl with thermodynamic powers, in Nigeria,[256] and, when Utopia was forced into a quarantine due to the release of the HX-N1 virus by Lobe, she coordinated an uninfected team of X-Men super heroes alongside Angel in the city of San Francisco.[257]
Looking to refresh the ranks of the Avengers following the war against the Serpent, Captain America (Steve Rogers) offered the Black Panther a membership position. The former ruler of Wakanda declined due to his obligations as the vigilante of Hell's Kitchen, but recommended his wife, Storm, as a powerful agent instead. At Avengers Mansion, Storm was introduced to the public alongside the rest of the new team. The press conference was interrupted by Norman Osborn, who accused the Avengers of a litany of criminal offenses and declared H.A.M.M.E.R. would rise to challenge their authority.[258] Storm was assigned to investigate OsCorp Industries, teaming up with the Red Hulk. The two Avengers were subdued by surprise and captured by H.A.M.M.E.R. agents.[259] Storm was experimented on by A.I.M. scientists under Monica Rappaccini's orders,[260] until breaking free to join the Avengers against Osborn.[261]
Cyclops' extremism incited an ideological schism within the X-Men as Wolverine rebelled against his methods, especially the militarization of youngsters as soldiers. As a result, Wolverine returned to Westchester to inaugurate the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.[262] Storm chose to join the staff of the new institute, but Cyclops implored her to stay, arguing she was fundamental in preserving the perspective of Xavier's dream in a team formed by radicalists.[263] She complied, becoming a member of the Extinction Team with the intention of keeping it potential corruption at check.[264] Parallel to this, Storm led a squad of X-Men that ran missions around the world. When Sentinels were produced in the disputed republic of Puternicstan, Storm invaded the region to decommission them, being confronted by armored military hero War Machine.[265] He joined the X-Men as the crisis escalated into a political issue due to the weaponization of the mutant-hunting robots.[266] To finish the operation, Storm cast a hurricane, enabling the X-Men to successfully end the threat. However, Jubilee went missing in action following the ordeal.[267] Storm had the X-Men raid several vampire hideouts to search for her,[268] ultimately finding her with the Forgiven.[269]
Reports of mutant activity prompted Storm direct the X-Men to investigate. Suspicious of the nature of the specimens, Storm did not trust Cyclops with intelligence and, alternatively, chose to address the situation herself without his knowledge. She contacted Mutantes Sans Frontières to analyze the collected genetic samples,[270] having as a return that they were Proto-Mutants, a subdivision of ancient mutants. Storm worked in coalition with Sabra as well. Colossus regarded her approach as a betrayal against Cyclops and Utopia[271] and confronted her authority, raising tensions. The X-Men tracked the responsible for the emergence of Proto-Mutants through cloning, David Michael Gray,[272] but he terminated himself before providing answers. Storm questioned the efficiency of her methods.[273] Samples of Proto-Mutant DNA were weaponized by cultists, forcing the X-Men to dismantle the operations. During the missions, Storm held information from Cyclops and refused to return to Utopia, while sharing her activities with Sabra.[274] The X-Men found a surviving Proto-Mutant, Gabriel Shepherd, but he did not trust them and vanished. Meanwhile, Cyclops took action by spying on Storm and ordered Colossus to act on his behalf.[275] Upon learning about Colossus' secret connection to Cyclops, Storm confronted him. A violent battle between the two friends erupted within the Blackbird, much to her dismay.[276]
As one of the Avengers, Storm was summoned by Captain America to a meeting detailing their plans to tackle the imminent coming of the Phoenix Force to Earth. Storm immediately foresaw a potential war between the Avengers and the mutant community of Utopia. She left the team in displeasure,[277] siding with her fellow X-Men against the Avengers when a battle erupted.[278] Cyclops and some members of the Extinction Team were possessed by the Phoenix, reshaping mutant activities in the world in a gradually corrupting way, prompting the Avengers to resist their influence.[279] One of the Phoenixes, Namor, flooded Wakanda, from where the Avengers operated, dealing immense damage to the golden nation in the name of the X-Men.[280] The Black Panther declared the X-Men enemies of his country. Feeling his wife Storm had betrayed her people by siding with mutantkind, King T'Challa annulled their marriage through his authority as the High Priest of the Panther Cult.[281] As the conflict escalated, the X-Men ended up joining forces with the Avengers to put the Phoenix down. A perverted Cyclops murdered Professor Xavier in the battle.[282] Storm was forced to direct her power against those she regarded as family.[283] In the aftermath, Utopia was left in ruins.[284] Despite her intentions of assisting the devastated country of which she used to be the queen, Storm was regarded as a criminal in Wakandan society.[285]
Headmistress[]
Hired by headmistress Kitty Pryde, Storm joined the staff of the Jean Grey School.[286] The teachers of the institute was targeted by the Frankenstein's Monster's Murder Circus. As such, the X-Men were brainwashed into becoming entertainers. Storm was transformed into the Windrider, an escape artist.[287] The student body intervened, which caused Storm to break through the illusion and reject it.[288] The other X-Men followed and ended the threat.[289] Simultaneously, Beast travelled back in time and transported the original class of X-Men to the present to confront Cyclops about his perceived degradation and the murder of Professor Xavier.[290] These all-new X-Men decided to stay in the present, being mentored by Pryde.[291] Storm was offered to step in as the new headmistress, a position she struggled to consider. Despite her divorce, she remained in contact with T'Challa while feeling divided in regard to her relationship with headmaster Wolverine. Ultimately, she fully embraced her duty to the X-Men, accepting the role of headmistress and accepting Wolverine as her lover. As a way to physically represent these changes, Storm asked Wolverine to restyle her appearance, and once again she began wearing a punk mohawk.[292]
Storm's short-lived tenure with X-Force
The end of Storm's marriage incited her to act in parallel missions for the X-Men besides her duty as headmistress. She and Psylocke responded a distress call by Wolverine's old friend Puck about a drug-dealing operation involving a psychic agent in Los Angeles. The smuggler was identified to be Spiral.[293] The X-Men were interrupted by an unstable Bishop, who had returned from the future following his betrayal of the X-Men in his crusade to end Hope, the mutant messiah.[294] Saving Bishop was imperative for Storm, who was psychically exorcized from the influence of the Demon Bear by Psylocke with Storm's aid.[295] Upon recovery, Bishop informed his allies about the threat of the psychic entity known as Revenant Queen and her plan of enacting a ritual known as the Great Corruption. The creature mentally reached out to Storm, attempting to torment her with a Mummudrai doppelgänger, a Revenant.[296] Storm executed her disrupted copy.[297] In an uneasy alliance, Spiral revealed the Revenant Queen was Cassandra Nova.[298] The team united as an uncanny X-Force to stop the villainess.[299] Storm did not stay with X-Force, however, parting ways with Psylocke following a confrontation with Stryfe.[300]
Storm put together a squadron of X-Men to assess the emergence of Arkea, a technology-possessing creature with ties to Sublime.[301] Having taken possession of the body of Karima Shapandar, the deactivated Omega Sentinel, Arkea set a bomb to obliterate the Jean Grey School. The attempt was averted, but led Storm to made the team an official unit to prepare for Arkea's activities. During the crisis, Storm contemplated executing Shapandar to stop Arkea,[302] this caused Rachel Grey to challenge her leadership.[303] To acquire the Arkea samples, the successor of Lady Deathstrike assembled a new Sisterhood of Evil to oppose the X-Men.[304] Storm directed the X-Men to fight them.[305] Since Arkea brought Madelyne Pryor and Selene back to life to join her mission, Storm proposed to leave them free if they defected their benefactor. This allowed the X-Men put her down.[306] In between this operation, the presence of the time-displaced X-Men[307] prompted a team of future X-Men to intervene on their behalf.[308] One of the interlopers was Kymera, Storm's daughter from the potential timeline. Unlike her peers, she remained in the present for an upcoming mission, representing an awkward connection with Storm.[309] When the Jean Grey School was attacked by the Future,[310] Storm pressed Kymera to provide information about the attack. She revealed her intention of protecting Jubilee's adoptive son, Shogo, from the assault, since the Future was his biological progenitor.[311] Storm comforted her future daughter about her motives,[312] and, in the end, the assailant was intercepted. Kymera said goodbye to Storm, declaring she had no intention of maintaining contact.[313]
Finding herself split between acting a super hero and as an educator, Storm got involved in political issues about anti-mutant legislation in Santo Marco, dealt with Creep, one of her students who rejected life at the Jean Grey School,[314] crossed paths with Callisto and her new community of human Morlocks who refused the surface world,[315] and supervised Forge's drought-easing activities in her former village in the Serengeti.[316] These encounters caused Storm to revisit her history and reevaluate her stances. This coincided with the death of Wolverine, who she hurtfully grieved. From that moment on, Storm became the sole runner of the Jean Grey School. In her mourning, Storm was contacted by Yukio, sharing with her the dreadful news in Las Vegas. The two friends consoled each other. With Wolverine dead, Storm learned he and Yukio operated the Arena Circuit together alongside several clans, including Davis Harmon's Eaglestar. Moreover, Yukio manipulated her friend into once again acting as a gladiator in the ring, a role Wolverine used to secretly have to settle conflicts in a contained condition.[317] Despite not agreeing with Yukio's way, Storm reluctantly agreed to be her champion and dueled Gah-Ran, a fighter of Kuva's Breakworld clan. She emerged victorious, and Yukio seized the opportunity to usurp Kuva's sector by murdering her.[318] In disappointment, Storm left her dear friend, since she wished to dismantle the Arena while Yukio planned to control it.[319]
Not fully recovered from the duel, Storm returned to the East Coast by commercial flight. The plane was attacked by Eaglestar. She managed to deter the assault, but collapsed upon arrival.[319] Blamed for the incident by a senator abroad, Storm was placed under arrest. She ordered the X-Man to stand down as a way to protect the Jean Grey School from the possible repercussion. A global commotion erupted, with protestors demanding for Storm's freedom. Realizing authorities would not help in solving the issue, Storm decided to break free and go rogue to hunt down Harmon. She confronted the lying senator to gather information, learning in the process he had been blackmailed by Harmon, who staged his own death to cover his tracks.[320] She learned Harmon scavenged the ruins of Utopia at San Francisco's bay and engaged him in a brutal battle. Expanding her powers, she protected innocents from harm while also managing to get Harmon captive. As a result, Storm was considered innocent and was released.[321] Harmon's activities in Utopia involved reviving and experimenting on Kenji Uedo, a problematic former protégé of the X-Men believed dead. He infected the Jean Grey School with his powers, also being a presence in Creep's family house, the Morlock Tunnels, and in the Serengeti village, the places where Storm had recently visited. Pretending to be amnesiac, Uedo was taken in and soon revealed his true self as a vengeful and rancorous creature.[322] His flesh cyborg army scattered across the planet allowed Storm to remotely use her powers to incapacitate the attack. Communing with Creep, Callisto, and Forge, Storm was able to weaken Uedo's influence and fend him off. In the end, Storm came to terms with the importance of her role as a mutant attempting to make the world a better place.[323]
Inhumanity[]
Mutantkind became a threatened species once again due to the release of the toxic Terrigen Mists released in the atmosphere by the Inhuman king Black Bolt.[324] As the headmistress of the Jean Grey School, Storm visited New Attilan and shared the crisis with the Queen of Inhumans, Medusa, who acted dismissive about the situation. Storm worked in collaboration with Forge to find a solution, while Cyclops alarmed the world about the infection, sparking a reaction from the Inhumans. Initially, Storm and her X-Men teamed up with the Inhumans to save mutants from being contaminated.[325] However, after the mutants were aggressively sideline by the sleep-inducing powers of the Inhuman Downer under Crystal's orders, Storm ended their partnership.[326] Cyclops' X-Men openly attacked the Inhumans in an attempt to neutralize Terrigen. Black Bolt publicly executed Cyclops for the intervention. The events had been cautiously orchestrated by Frost. On Muir Island, Storm held a funeral for her long-time friend and teammate.[327] Since Earth's environment was hazardous for mutants, Storm relocated the entirety of the Jean Grey School to the demonic realm of of Limbo, ruled by Magik, with the assistance of Doctor Strange.[328] The school became known as X-Haven, where mutants were welcome and safe from the M-Pox-inducing Terrigen Mists.[329]
The M-Pox outbreak caused an ever-growing repression against mutantkind. Storm realized that mutants couldn't simply hide, so in order to show mutants had a place in the world, Ororo rebuilt the X-Men.[329] After the X-Men discovered the Terrigen Mists were close to becoming fully assimilated into the atmosphere, rendering the Earth completely uninhabitable for mutants, Ororo decided to lead her people into a war against the Inhumans with the intention to neutralize them long enough to give the X-Men time to destroy the Mists, since she believed the Inhumans would refuse to do so.[330] The Inhumans and the X-Men eventually reached an understanding and the Cloud was destroyed by the Inhuman queen Medusa, putting an end to the M-Pox crisis.[331] Following the resolution of the conflict, Storm chose to pass the reins of leadership to Kitty Pryde, believing herself to be unfit to serve among the X-Men, but Kitty convinced her to remain in the team.[332]
Hadari Yao[]
Ororo Munroe reconnected with Ezra Keith under her alias of Blue in Harlem as racial tensions in the neighborhood rose up.[125] Protests took place following the Keith's death while it was patroled by brutal Americops. Detective Misty Knight investigated the crime, being joined by Storm. Through one of her and Keith's associates, the sorceress Marla, Blue found T'Challa involved in the situation happening in Harlem.[3] In an uneasy team-up, the former couple detected an attempt to gentrify Harlem by Hydra.[333] Joined by Luke Cage and the Manifold, the group of heroes learned Keith had been killed by his own nephew, Malik, an agent of Hydra.[334] As a Crew, the team ended the crisis in Harlem, which had been caused by the psychic influence of the terrorist Zenzi, honoring the life of Ezra Keith.[335] Soon after, when thrown into political instability, Wakanda was visited the Crew.[336] With them, Storm fought the Fenris and the Vanisher, who maintained the Black Panther captive under Zeke Stane's orders.[337] Being safe, T'Challa briefly expressed his remorse about the end of his marriage to Storm.[338]
Wakanda was forced to readapt its regime following its recent revolutions. To adjust himself to the changes, the Black Panther sought Storm for advice.[339] He was increasingly worried about the Orisha who traditionally safeguarded Wakanda abandoning them, including the Panther Goddess. Having been worshipped as a goddess, Storm recommended him to reconsider how his faith worked.[340] Without its deities, Wakanda was mystically vulnerable. Expressing regret for having annulled their marriage, the Black Panther asked her to help fend off devilish interlopers, the Originators.[341] Windriding the skies of Wakanda again,[342] Storm's apparition sparked a reaction among Wakandans, who started to venerate her as a symbol of balance, the Hadari Yao, the walker of clouds. Adored as a deity, Storm was empowered to banish the demons and disrupt the unnatural tempest they had cast.[8] The crisis remained, as the enemies of Wakanda took advantage of it to deviate the loyalty of Wakandans through the zealot Ras the Exhorter, who commanded a horde of invaders.[343] Teleported by the Manifold, the Hadari Yao combatted the army. Defeated by Storm, the Exhorter was revealed to be Asira, Queen Divine Justice, a former Dora Milaje brainwashed by the villains.[344] The god she was forced to adore happened upon Storm as the Adversary.[345] The monstrous deity trapped Ororo Munroe beneath rubble, causing her to become terrified due to her claustrophobia. The Black Panther, as the High Priest of the Panther Cult, bequeathed the entire faith of Wakanda upon the Hadari Yao. Empowered by the entire nation, Storm obliterated the Adversary for good. Ororo Munroe confronted her ex-husband about him planning ahead for her ascendancy, during which he expressed his insecurities. In the end, Storm and the Black Panther resumed their love story.[44]
Wielding Stormcaster
The X-Men worked as outcast heroes under Pryde's leadership, with Storm being a member of the team during missions.[346] In a fight against Mesmero's Brotherhood, the X-Men were manipulated into attacking police officers[347] and ended up under arrest. Their presence caused issues with criminal inmates,[348] leading Storm to be caged inside a solitary cell.[349] In extreme turmoil due to her claustrophobia, she refused to remain incarcerated and broke free. This coincided with Earth being attacked by a god from the Negative Zone known as Scythian. The X-Men were officially pardoned to attack the creature, and, during the confrontation, Storm mysteriously reunited with Stormcaster, once again wielding its magnificent powers and helping destroy the enemy.[350] She attempted to return the enchanted mallet, worried about its potential corruption, with no success.[351] The reunion was a consequence of Ainet's prayers, since a dark god called Uovu imposed adoration to him in Storm's former village, Uzuri. Ainet's faith was answered by Stormcaster, which had been laying dormant in the ruins of Asgard.[352]
Through the Wakandan consulate, Storm was informed Ainet had passed away, prompting her to travel to Kenya to pay her respects. Despite not being welcomed by the villagers, Storm chose to stay and clashed with Uovu's Death Cult. She summoned Stormcaster to fight the evil deity, but he offered her the resurrection of her late parents[352] to gain her devotion. Initially grateful for being with her mother and father again, Ororo Munroe grew suspicious and ventured into the village's catacombs, where countless corpses, including Ainet's, were maintained in a perverse scheme. He raised an undead army against Storm as Stormcaster not answered her calls.[353] Not having access to the powers of a goddess due to the lack of her worshippers, Storm was at the villain's mercy. In fact, through Stormcaster, the X-Men were transported to their teammate. Uovu's zombie followers were put to rest, allowing Storm a fair match in a battle of godhood. As she defeated him, Stormcaster turned to dust. Before the reanimated people dissolved into the wind, Ororo Munroe had final words with both her parents and Ainet. She came to terms with her feelings of having neglected Uzuri after joining the X-Men to give herself to the world. In the end, she became determined to reestablish her connection with the community not as a deity, but as a friend.[354]
Salvation[]
Infected by a sentinite developed by Cassandra Nova, Storm was brainwashed into attacking the new team of X-Men formed by a recently resurrected Jean Grey in Wakanda.[355] Despite Storm exhibiting extreme violence, Jean Grey refused to react with aggression. Overpowered, the disturbed Storm attempted to terminate herself being moved by incited anti-mutant hate. With the Black Panther's help, Jean Grey was able to remove the device. Storm joined her team, relocated to Searebro, Atlantis, where Nova could not reach them with her microscopic machines.[356] Tracing Nova's location to the ruins of Genosha, Jean Grey dispatched Storm to intercept her. Unleashing a massive tsunami, Storm disrupted Nova's reach, enabling the X-Men to destroy the sentinites.[357] In a final move against Cassandra Nova, the X-Men joined forces with the Avengers[358] and put an end to her activities.[359]
Erratic meteorological phenomena were triggered around the world, which worried Storm and led the X-Men to investigate.[360] This coincided with the disappearance of Kitty Pryde and Angel. Storm and Jean Grey assembled teams of X-Men to assess the crises,[361] but the Xavier Institute was destroyed by the Horsemen of Salvation[362] serving an insane Nate Grey in a crusade to reshape the world.[363] After Psylocke broke Angel free from his control,[364] Storm was transformed into his new Horseman of Life, instead. Jean Grey assembled an army of X-Men to resist the attack,[4] during which Psylocke released Storm similarly to her previous act with Angel. Unleashing her rage upon her captor, Storm was able to stop the fight. However, using the powers of the Life Seed, Nate Grey created an alternative plane of existence to which he transported all the X-Men present. To the world, the X-Men were presumed dead.[365]
A society exclusively formed by mutant where interpersonal relationships were strongly discouraged was crafted by Nate Grey. In this setting, Storm was a member of the marvelous X-Men, being a tranquil member of the team.[366][367] The team found opposition in Murshid En Sabah Nur and his X-Tracts, revolutionaries who endorsed love and community over the state-endorsed harmonious autonomy, which raised suspicions over the veracity of their reality.[368] Storm approached Magneto, and they investigated the possibility of being in a illusory reality. Eventually rebelling against the deceitful Nate Grey, they were banished and had their memories erased.[369] Ultimately, by rekindling with the other X-Men, Storm revealed the cracks in Nate Grey's plan, prompting an assault against him as a team in unison.[370] After a final confrontation, the mutants displaced by Nate Grey broke his façade[371] and returned to their home reality.[372]
During the absence of T'Challa and the Gods of Wakanda, Storm helped Wakanda during their toughest of times. She, along with Shuri and Queen-Mother Ramonda, were able to come in contact with T'Challa, now a member of the Maroons, who informed them about the threat of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda.[373] Following the battle between the Maroons and the Empire's Flagship, T'Challa returned to Wakanda Prime, and reunited with his loved ones.[374] T'Challa tried to rekindle his relationship with Ororo, and also told her how he was tricked and captured by the empire.[375] The Empire's Askari fighters tried to attack Wakanda Prime, but Storm, and the other Wakandan fighters were able to fend them off for the moment.[376] Storm then confronted General Nakia of the Maroons, who also felt attraction to T'Challa, and wished her luck in Nakia's possible relationship with him.[377]
Krakoa[]
A new era begins
With Professor X founding Krakoa nation, Storm became one of the mutants who assisted him in accomplishing his plan. Four months prior to the public revelation of the mutant nation, Storm planted Krakoan flowers on the X-Mansion grounds in Westchester. The flowers grew teleporting Gateways and Habitats, all part of the interconnected consciousness of Krakoa.[43] Through this intervention, the X-Mansion became the Graymalkin Habitat.[378] On Krakoa itself, Storm acted as part of the support team who helped the heroes of Krakoa invade the anti-mutant Orchis Forge. In a mutant circuit, formed by Beast's and Trinary's control over technology and the Stepford Cuckoos' telepathy, Storm was crucial to make psychic contact with Jean Grey in outer space. The heroes accomplished their goal, but the entire team was killed in the attack.[379] Thanks to the Krakoan Resurrection Protocols performed by the Five, Storm heralded the return of each member to the rest of Krakoa.[380] Then, she became part of the Krakoan supreme body of government, the Quiet Council, sitting at the Summer table, which consisted of the members of Xavier's idealistic X-Men.[381]
With the Marauders
As Emma Frost reshaped the Hellfire Club as the commercial conglomerate known as the Hellfire Trading Company to perform international transactions, one of the company's goals became exchanging Krakoan goods for mutants' safety. Although Storm rejected Frost's offer to be part of its board, she became entangled with this business regardless. Despite Krakoa was for all mutants, Kitty Pryde represented one exception for she was unable to access Krakoa through its Gateways. Witnessing her friend's struggle with being set apart from mutant haven, Storm kept watch of her, worrying for her safety. In a mission to combat Russian anti-mutant militants who counted with Forge's power-dampening technology, Storm sailed alongside Pryde, Iceman and Pyro to liberate mutants. This led Captain Kate Pryde to accept Frost's offer and form a crew of mutant pirates to act on behalf of the Hellfire Trading Company, the Marauders, which Storm was part of[382] as per Frost's suggestion in order to protect Pryde.[383]
As a powerhouse in the Marauders, Storm took part in several adventures to rescue mutants all over the world.[384] However, they were betrayed by Sebastian Shaw, the Black King of the Hellfire Trading Company who had associated himself with the Homines Verendi in Madripoor. Shaw misdirected Storm and Iceman away from Pryde in order to murder her.[385] On Island M, Storm learned about the trickery after meeting her old friend Callisto, who worked with Frost as her bodyguard, the White Knight.[386] In a uneasy exchange of emotions, Storm and Frost planned to resurrect Pryde and get revenge on Shaw.[383][387] Ultimately, Storm was able to welcome Pryde back to the living thanks to the miraculous Resurrection Protocols. In between these crisis, Storm also contacted Forge to solve his power-dampening technology being available to the enemies of Krakoa.[388]
Flirting with Death[]
Simultaneously to her activities as a pirate in the Marauders, Storm kept acting for Krakoa's and the Quiet Council's best interests. Alongside Cyclops, she invaded an Orchis base, where they found not only many mutants being kept captive, but also a Child of the Vault, the post-human Serafina. Storm interacted with Serafina before she vanished and escaped.[389] Serafina was tracked to Ecuador, where Storm unleashed her power in order to draw attention and allow a secret team to infiltrate the Vault. Although successful, Storm was targeted by the Vault's defenses[390] and corrupted by their technology, eventually falling into a coma. Infected by a machine virus, Storm was given one month to live after being examined and psychically rescued from her coma by Jean Grey and Emma Frost.[391] Even with the possibility of being resurrected through the Krakoan mutant technology, Storm refused to accept death. Monet St. Croix studied her case and suggested that in the adapting environment of the World there could be a device to purge the virus from Storm's body. Storm led a group of mutants alongside Fantomex and A.I.M. agent Ned into the World, being able to reach a machine that decoupled her from the virus. Finally cured, Storm was once more able to balance the scales between life and death and evade a final fate.[392]
A dance with Death
Storm's close connection to life and a flirtatious dance with death was made evident when she was drafted into a contest in Otherworld by Majestrix Saturnyne, who pitted champions from Krakoa and its sister and rival mutant nation Arakko to solve their war against each other involving the impending daemonic invasion from Amenth led by Annihilation.[393][394][395] Storm was assigned a role as a swordswoman who should wield Wakanda's most sacred weapon, the Skybreaker. She initially attempted to negotiate the use of the sword with Shuri and Queen Ramonda, with no success since they could not act without T'Challa's consent. Having not enough time to wait for their decision, Storm took the difficult choice of stealing the Skybreaker for Krakoa. The theft put a strain on her relationship with the Black Panther and Wakanda.[396]
Wielding Skybreaker, Storm joined the Swordbearers of Krakoa and marched to war in Otherworld.[397] Before the tournament, Krakoans and Arakkii enjoyed a banquet during which Storm's courage and ability to avoid death so many times caught the interest of the Horseman of Death. They waltzed and discussed their rivalry.[398] Storm's first trial turned out to be a Blightswill drinking contest against Wolverine at the Crooked Market. This was set up by the Horseman of Death,[399] who had given them the beverage from Dryador to nullify Storm's powers in time for their duel. In spite of being powerless, Storm was still able to brutally defeat the Horseman of Death in a battle for first blood in the vampire court of Sevalith.[400] After Krakoa was declared the winner, Storm returned the Skybreaker to Wakanda but the scars caused by her betrayal remained.[401]
The tournament delayed Shaw's punishment for having murdered Pryde. Back to Krakoa, Storm witnessed Pryde and Frost viciously maim Shaw, forcing him to comply to their will in the Quiet Council.[402] For being sure Pryde was finally safe, Storm decided she had no further business with the Hellfire Trading Company and decided to leave the Marauders, sharing it first to Callisto. Before she could depart, Callisto invited Storm to be her match at Crucible, the Krakoan killing ritual performed to restore the powers of mutants who had been depowered by the Scarlet Witch. In a dramatic duel, Storm mortally wounded Callisto, allowing her to be revived with full powers.[403] Storm eventually said goodbye to her fellow Marauders and respectfully shared her pleasure in assisting them in their mission for mutantkind. She wished for new winds to sail.[404]
Regent of Arakko[]
Voice of Sol
Krakoa was contacted by royal advisor Deathbird about the disappearance of Shi'ar Empress and Xavier's daughter Xandra in Chandilar, and Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey travelled to look for her. Xandra had been kidnapped by rebels led by the Stygian Urr. Storm finished Urr herself, granting her the admiration, respect and gratitude of the Empress in the form of a debt to be collected.[405] For the Hellfire Gala, mutantkind decided to integrate the defeated people of Arakko into the universe by occupying Mars. The red planet was terraformed by many Krakoan and Arakkii omega-level mutants, including Storm, who created its atmosphere and founded the Diplomatic Ring on Lake Hellas.[406] Storm then earned a position for herself in the Arakkii society by challenging the omega-level shapeshifter Nameless for the Seat of All-Around-Us at the Great Ring of Arakko. The pair fought in the Circle Perilous with Nameless taking on the form of Storm in her prime. Storm froze Nameless to prevent her movement and shapeshifting, and Nameless chose to die rather than yield.[26] As such, Storm took the position of Regent of Arakko, being in charge of the matters of the people and the land.[60]
Through the influence of S.W.O.R.D.'s director Abigail Brand, Planet Arakko became the diplomatic capital of the Solar System. As the Regent of Arakko, Storm assumed the role of Voice of Sol in the Galactic Council, being a representative for negotiations with alien civilizations. One of mutantkind's main resources during this societal turn was the mines of the anti-magic mineral named Mysterium.[13] On Arakko, Storm discussed the role of Mysterium with Doctor Doom, during a dinner where he alerted her that Brand might represent a threat for their interests. Storm ultimately dismissed Doom for his arrogance.[407] Later, as part of the Great Ring of Arakko, Storm kept facing challenges to prove her worth, constantly facing opponents in the Circle Perilous. One of the combatants was Tarn the Uncaring. Storm battled the vile Tarn powerless, as he was able to genetically turn her powers off. She was victorious and gained more prestige in the Arakkii society.[60] At Lake Hellas, a diplomatic meeting between S.W.O.R.D. and the Shi'ar Empire was interrupted by Orbis Stellaris' Lethal Legion as part of Henry Gyrich's plan. Storm intervened, attacking the Lethal Legion,[408] ensuring Empress Xandra's protection by assassinating the numerous Lethal Legion agents. However, Storm realized the S.W.O.R.D. space station had been oddly sabotaged.[409]
The Brotherhood of Arakko is born
Abigail Brand wanted Storm as a figurehead through which she could control Arakko and the Sol System in the intergalactic scene. However, Storm preferred to integrate with Arakko and act according to their laws and customs, instead of lording over them. She refused Brand's offer to lead a team of X-Men connected to S.W.O.R.D. to act on Arakko. Instead, by distancing herself from the position of ruler, Storm formed a Brotherhood to fight for Arakko alongside Magneto and Sunspot.[26] Her sincere efforts earned respect of Arakkii citizens. To work around the Brotherhood, Brand goaded Vulcan to challenge the seat of Tarn the Uncaring.[410] Recognizing Brand's plan, Storm and the Brotherhood reacted. During the battle, Tarn brutally killed Vulcan, but was then defeated and executed by Magneto, who assumed his position in the Great Ring.[411] As a demonstration of their commitment to the Arakkii, Storm and Magneto destroyed their resurrection backups in front of the members of the Great Ring, becoming vulnerable to a life that could end.[32] Acting on Arakko's behalf, Storm commissioned the X-Man Sunfire to search for Redroot, the voice of Arakko, on Otherworld.[412]
Another important influence in the Galactic Council was the Black Panther, a representative of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda. To spy on the ascension of mutants to political issues involving the universe, he had Gentle as an agent inside Arakkii society.[413] Still, Gentle's loyalty remained with Storm.[414] She expressed her resentment for having been lied to by her lover.[32] The assassination of Empress Xandra[415] was a complication for the Galactic Council as a Shi'ar civil war was foreseen. Orbis Stellaris opposed to a possible resurrection of Xandra on Krakoa. Storm confronted him, informing Xandra had already been revived, and that mutantkind needed no permission from the Galactic Council to live and thirve.[32]
During the war between Eternals and mutants, Storm shared Arakko's perspective with the Quiet Council. During her absence, the Great Ring was attacked by Uranos and his arsenal. Brand and her X-Men could not stop the attack. Isca the Unbeaten, due to the nature of her powers, sided with Uranos and murdered the clairvoyant Idyll. Other victims, who were grievously injured, were Ora Serrata, Xilo and Magneto, who had his heart ripped out of his chest. Having no opposition, Uranos massacre thousands of Arakkii.[416] Storm returned and destroyed Uranos' weapons all around the planet alongside Lactuca and Sobunar. For the last one, she sided with Magneto, helping him sustain his blood flow.[417] They defeated Uranos together, but Magneto died in Storm's arms.[418] In his final moments, he asked her to watch Xavier, the last architect of Krakoa left active. With the Eternals defeated, the Great Ring confronted Isca about her betrayal. Storm declared that, despite Isca being always victorious, she would still be fought against. The debate led Isca to understand she could not understand the suffering of losing, prompting her to resign from the Great Ring. Meanwhile, by recognizing her attention had been divided, Storm abandoned her role of Regent and claimed Magneto's Seat of Loss.[419]
Storm vs Vulcan
Vulcan was resurrected on Krakoa, unleashing his fiery rage. Unable to take over the throne of the Shi'ar Empire as his and Brand's plans were countered by Sunspot and Storm, he swore revenge.[420] At the Autumn Palace, Storm and Vulcan engaged in a deadly combat. Counting with the aid of the Brotherhood, Storm once again defeated Vulcan with Sobunar's providing unlimited humidity hidden by Wrongslide for her to control and Lodus Logos encasing him in Mysterium. His defeat marked the end of Brand's schemes.[25] Moreover, the Krakoan leaderships discovered that Mister Sinister had tampered with the timeline using the Moira Engine and manipulated some of the Council's members, which had created an alternative future in which he corrupted mutantkind. His influence was reverted,[421] and the repercussions involved Storm relinquishing her voting rights on the Quiet Council to Colossus after learning her potential self had not been able to act in time against Sinister due to her duty to Arakko.[422] Xavier summoned Storm and demanded her to share the last words of Magneto. As she refused, he angrily tried to telepathically breach into her mind, but was repelled. Despite her disappointment, she revealed the truth of Magneto being worried that Xavier could break under the weight of his dream. She departed by expressing her former mentor was not welcomed on Arakko.[423]
Genesis War[]
During the war against Uranos, NASA human scientist Dr. Craig Marshall protected Arakkii children despite not having special powers or training, which impressed Storm.[417] She went on a date with him, starting a romantic connection. Simultaneously, Jon Ironfire, a partner of the White Sword, from Amenth arrived on Arakko, announcing Genesis, the former leader of the Great Ring, was about to return.[423] Since Orchis prepared to attack and destroy mutantkind, they had a plan to destabilize Arakko. The sorcerer Marianna Stern informed Genesis about Storm's role in changes taking place on Arakko. Infuriated and wielding the Annihilation Staff, Genesis emerged on Arakko.[424] She confronted and berated the Great Ring, manipulating most of them against Storm, who was accused of cowardly leading Arakko to its fall. Realizing the influence of Annihilation disturbed reason and to give the parts fair chance, Lactuca teleported Storm and her allies away, naming them as rebels of Arakko.[425] Simultaneously, Orchis struck on Earth, effectively dismantling the nation of Krakoa.[426]
A civil war broke out on Arakko. Some mutants supported Genesis' old ways, while others preferred Storm's new ways of life. The Brotherhood retreated to the Red Lagoon. Storm led her allies to the battlefield, using her power to resist Genesis' advances.[427] Despite their efforts, the Brotherhood could not prevent Genesis from creating a massive gateway linked to Amenth, enabling Genesis' children, the Horseman of Apocalypse, to join the conflict alongside a massive army. Showing no mercy, Storm put down War and Famine. Death, her admirer, challenged her for another duel, however, Pestilence interfered and attempted to sneakily kill Storm. Offended, Death killed his own sister, ending up joining Storm's Brotherhood in the war.[428] Having earned access to Uranos' arsenal from the Eternals,[429] Storm ultimately decided not to resort to the degrading tactics. Apocalypse, meanwhile, returned after refusing to support his wife Genesis for disagreeing with her view of Arakko. Despite being neutral in the civil war, he enlisted Storm into performing a magical ritual to transform part of the planet's land into new living island, Kaorak, alongside Vulcan and Sunfire, who had merged with Redroot.[430] In the following final battle Kaorak fought against the walking island of Arakko, and two sides of conflict engaged in battle. Storm personally fought Genesis, whose Annihilation Staff tried to influence and break her will. By destroying Annihilation with lightning after resisting its tempting corruption, Storm bested Genesis. The challenge was witnessed by Lactuca, who informed both sides about the end result. The war ended and Planet Arakko reunited, with Genesis, War and Famine relocating to Phobos.[61]
Legion of the Shadow Kingdom
Finally freed, the Arakkii force marched to Earth to assist the X-Men and other mutants in the battle against the Orchis,[431] while Storm, being disturbed by nightmares about Magneto she regarded as an omen, visited Blue Marvel at the Kadesh Base to gain access into the Waiting Room. For that purpose, she risked death, as her dying body remained with Blue Marvel, her spirit entered the limits of mutant afterlife. She was greeted with extreme aggression by Tarn, but was able to destroy his form. With her victory, she was met by her ancestor Ashake, who pointed out dreams were important messages from the divine and guided her to Magneto. In her path, she found manifestations of the Phalanx as Dominions who informed her about the moves of Enigma against the X-Men. Resisting their assimilation attempt, she went further[432] and found Magneto, who punished himself for those he had wronged and led to death. By informing him of the fall of Krakoa, Storm convinced Magneto to return to life.[433] On their way back, the Shadow King tormented their souls, along with different entities darkness and evil that were antagonistic to the Phoenix. Joining their forces using Storm’s life force as the weapon, Storm and Magneto cast the shadow creatures away, finally emerging on the real world.[434] During their crusade against the agents of Orchis and their Sentinels, they were telepathically contacted by Emma Frost[435] to join the X-Men in battle against the leaders of Orchis. As a triumphant final act, Storm destroyed the murder machine Nimrod.[436]
Earth's Mightiest Mutant[]
Resettling in Atlanta, Ororo Munroe built the Storm Sanctuary, a flying haven for those in need of protecting that stayed in the skies.[21] Following the fall of Orchis, she was invited by Sam Wilson to rejoin the Avengers as their mutant representative.[62] As a mutant hero, Storm gained immense popularity, being praised by the public to the point of being rumored to run for Congress especially after solving a radioactive disaster in a nuclear plant in Oklahoma City. The disaster was officially identified as the result of secret experiments with extraterrestrial technology, but Iron Man and Storm concluded it was, in truth, caused by the activation of the mutant powers of a youngster. Torn between benefitting from a lie or being honest, Storm chose the latter and revealed the case to the media during the opening of the Storm Sanctuary. As a result, it caused more fear and hatred toward mutants. Additionally, exposure to the radioactivity levels generated by the mutant child unusually poisoned Storm, eroding her health.[21] Although sick, she continued to protect lives around the world when possible. As her condition deteriorated, she visited the Night and Daye Hospital for the Extramundane to get medical help, and Dr. Daye, a mutant physician, informed her that she required magical treatment and had approximately six hours left to live. As per his recommendation, he arranged for her a meeting with Doctor Voodoo.[35] In Haiti, Doctor Voodoo performed a bargain with ancient spirit Eēgūn to remove the radiation and eliminate the illness in exchange of Storm not using her mutant powers for one week. To help her during her recovery period, he offered her asylum at the Strange Academy, but Storm instead went to the X-Men in Haven House, New Orleans.[437]
Eternal Storm
For six days, Storm enjoyed tranquil moments with the X-Men, including a sexual encounter with Wolverine. On the seventh and last day of the healing ritual, a mystical bird arrive with an invitation from Doctor Doom, the new Sorcerer Supreme, which Storm accepted.[437] In Latveria, Doom expressed how he wished for mutants to serve his rule with Storm acting as an ambassador of his will. Enraged at his cruelty, Storm attacked Doctor Doom using her mutant powers, breaking the pact. She was immediately slain by Eēgūn, who gloated how the entire world would pay the price for her transgression. Her soul was saved and revived by Eternity, who transformed her into his avatar as Eternal Storm[49] as she had been previously selected to be his champion as a symbol of life in his cosmic duel against Oblivion. Possessed by Eternity, Storm easily subdued the demonic creature and trapped him inside her own soul. Doctor Doom banished her from his country, but helped her reassert her control over her body from the cosmic possession.[38]
The Storm Sanctuary received former X-Man Maggott as a resident. Another refuge was Professor Xavier, who had escaped the Graymalkin Prison and asked Storm for assistance as he ran away from authorities. In San Francisco, Cyclops and his X-Men raided the Storm Sanctuary to retrieve Xavier, meeting opposition in Storm. Overpowered by Cyclops, Storm once again was supplanted by Eternity, gravely freezing her former teammate. As Maggott was mortally wounded by Juggernaut, Eternal Storm provided him with the essence of Eēgūn, triggering a transformation of his body, while unleashing her rage upon Juggernaut.[438] Idie Okonkwo nullified Eternal Storm's powers over the weather to save Juggernaut, while Magik engaged her in physical combat. Ultimately, Psylocke managed to return Storm to control. As such, she let the X-Men go with Xavier.[439] Storm provided the power of one of the engines of the Storm Sanctuary for Sage to design a giant armor piloted by Pastor John Wraith and cover Xavier as he left the planet. Simultaneously, Storm furtively hit Cyclops with a lightning arrow to interrupt his attempt of stopping the escape.[440]
Storm and Maggott went to the Amazon Jungle at Iron Man's request to investigate the weaponization of the Super-Soldier Serum alongside unexplainable weather phenomena. In their investigation, Storm clashed with a group of storm gods, deities from different pantheons with powers over thunder and rain. Subdued, Storm accessed her magical potential from her ancestry, being able to retreat to the Storm Sanctuary.[441] She was joined by Thor, who shared a tale about Hadad, the first storm god destined to return with rot plagues. The prophecy caused a Thunder War between factions of storm gods who aligned with Hadad and praised his return and those who wished to resist him. Back to America, Storm was interrogated by O*N*E about her activities and the legality of the Storm Sanctuary being operational. Agent Fabiyi attempted to psychically manipulate the encounter, causing Storm to react. As such, she was placed under arrest.[442] O*N*E took advantage of the incarceration to seize control over the Storm Sanctuary after enlisting forces from Limbo. However, Maggott was holding a wrestling event with several fighters with enhanced strength on it, which prevented a siege. One of the wrestlers was the sensational She-Hulk, also attorney Jennifer Walters, who interceded for Storm and freed her from jail. In the Storm Sanctuary, Storm revealed to the Manifold that Eternity had captured the bomb entity Abraxas in her name.[443] In between her missions with Maggott and the Manifold, Storm prepared for the incoming Thunder War. She started banishing the storm gods who had assaulted her in Brazil to a pocket reality through the powers of the Manifold. They infiltrated Orun to confront the Orisha Shango, for instance.[444]
Their hunt was paused when Storm detected Bishop in Madripoor, being in charge of Jaden, the radioactive mutant from Oklahoma City.[444] The encounter was then interrupted as O*N*E agent Étienne remotely murdered Maggott and the Manifold and Infinity happened upon Storm demanding explanations about Eternity's whereabouts.[445] Storm rejected Eternity's possession and confronted Infinity about the intervention. Having been rescued from destruction by Infinity, world-eater Galactus and his herald, the Silver Surfer, joined Storm due to their interest in opposing Hadad and his all-consuming Black Winters, who had murdered Oblivion. The Silver Surfer assigned Storm to personally challenge and battle Hadad since other cosmic entities had been resisting his destruction in other fronts.[445] In her hand-to-hand duel with Hadad, Storm was overpowered, but found support with the intervention of Beta Ray Bill, the only thunderous deity who chose to join her in her war against the vile primordial god. Once again possessed by Eternity, but maintaining her consciousness, Storm used the power of Abraxas to best Hadad in combat. Defenseless, he was to be banished alongside the other raging storm gods. However, Eternity subdued Storm's will and forced her to execute the villain.[22]
War Above All[]
During Storm's tenure with the Avengers, the team became part of the resistance against Doctor Doom's global regime. After becoming Sorcerer Supreme, Doom declared himself Emperor of the World, and brought Earth's governments under the banner of United Latveria. The Avengers, Fantastic Four, and their allies initially failed to remove him, but eventually organized a final assault. During the battle, Storm and Human Torch combined their powers into a fiery hurricane, prompting Doom to temporarily strip the mutant combatants of their abilities.[446][447] Storm remained with the Avengers through their subsequent alliance with the Twilight Court against Kang and the Ashen Combine. Following their victory, the Avengers disbanded.[448]
Storm later joined the Scarlet Witch in helping Wiccan oppose Baba Yaga and Morgan Le Fay after his journey along the Witches' Road disrupted the elemental balance.[449]
After Eternity forced Storm to execute Hadad, she was approached by Susanoo, who had been disgraced by his actions during the Thunder War and ordered by Amaterasu to commit ritual suicide. Susanoo selected Ororo as his kaishakunin, but, anticipating her refusal to take a life, placed Rage, the Rogue Planet on a collision course with Earth. Storm refused to submit to his ultimatum, instead sharing tea with him before she and the Avengers subdued the god and imprisoned him in a pocket dimension. Susanoo cursed Ororo for denying him an honorable death and warned that she would soon experience the wrath of Mistress Death. Meanwhile, his general Akujin attacked Biarritz, distracting Storm with magical illusions while her monsters destroyed most of the city. The local hero Death Siren was killed, and her orphaned children rejected Storm's attempts to console them, forcing Ororo to confront the human cost of her failure.[450]
With Akujin threatening to destroy another city every five days until Susanoo was released, Scarlet Witch, now the Sorcerer Supreme, warned Storm that her considerable magical potential was no substitute for experience with mystical laws and trained her to combat magical deception. Ororo nevertheless refused to free Susanoo and relocated the Storm Sanctuary to Biarritz, concentrating her attention on the devastated city while deploying Storm Engines to protect other communities. She opened the Sanctuary to displaced humans and mutants alike and rejected demands that the two groups be segregated, only for another mutant to be found murdered within the refuge. Elsewhere, the FBI used essence previously siphoned from the wounded Galactus to empower Agent Gail Arakawa through Project Galacta.[451]
As Storm investigated the murder, she furiously warned the Sanctuary's residents that she would tolerate neither humans targeting mutants nor mutants framing humans to provoke further conflict. Before she could uncover the culprit, a spacesuited woman abducted her from the Multiverse entirely. Ororo was pursued through the strange realm beyond creation by a hostile Cosmic Raptor before discovering that her captor was an alternate version of her mother. N'Daré warned that Ororo's universe was dying and that the destructive force consuming it would eventually spread across their entire multiversal cluster. During this period, Storm also visited the deceased Maggott in the Elysian Fields and promised to return him to life, even if doing so provoked a war between Earth and the realms of the dead. Elsewhere, Doctor Voodoo, transformed into Death's avatar, commanded wraiths of deceased X-Men and gods, defeating Ogun and expanding his army in preparation for the coming War Above All.[452]
N'Daré refused to return Storm to her universe, believing that isolation beyond the Multiverse was the only way to save her daughter. To make Ororo understand her decision from a mother's perspective, she confronted her with Furaha, the daughter of an alternate Storm. Furaha instead sided with Ororo and, alongside her partner Soo-Ah and Tami, attempted to help her return home despite an attack by Sentinels. At the same time, Akujin's servant Bogey approached Hera, offering her Wakandan vibranium in exchange for passage through the Underworld. When Hera rejected the proposal, Bogey summoned demons against her and the assembled Olympians, further opening the realms of the dead for Akujin's invasion.[453]
With Furaha's assistance, Storm escaped the realm beyond the Multiverse and returned to Earth. She found the Storm Sanctuary under attack by the FBI, whose cosmically empowered Agent Arakawa defeated Armor while attempting to seize Abraxas. Storm expelled the agents and reclaimed her Sanctuary, while also fulfilling her promise to Maggott by restoring him to life. Ororo then confronted Eternity for repeatedly overriding her will, particularly when he had forced her to execute Hadad. Although she acknowledged her mistakes and the scale of the approaching threats, Storm rejected any assistance that required her submission and insisted upon facing them as Eternity's equal rather than his subordinate avatar. With Akujin, Death's army, Doctor Voodoo, hostile gods, demons, and other forces converging upon Earth, the conflict's outcome was summarized simply: despite everything arrayed against her, Storm prevailed.[454]Attributes

Powers
Weather Manipulation: Storm is an Omega Level mutant[43] with psionic power to control all forms and facets of the weather, atmosphere and manipulate energies. One of the primary sources of her powers on Earth is the electromagnetic field.[455] Ororo is considered to be one of the most powerful mutants in the universe, her inherent raw power and potential has been stated to be nigh-infinite,[456] or even incalculable.[457] She was considered to be a Severe Threat by the O*N*E.[458] Prior to being confirmed as an Omega Level Mutant, she was considered to be an Alpha Level mutant[citation needed] with Omega Level potential.[15] Storm has been able to control both Earthly and extraterrestrial ecosystems on several occasions. She can modify the temperature of the environment, control all forms of precipitation, humidity, and moisture (at a molecular level), generate lightning and other electromagnetic atmospheric phenomena, and has demonstrated excellent control over atmospheric pressure. She can incite all forms of meteorological tempests, such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards, and hurricanes,[459] as well as mist. She can dissipate such weather to form clear skies as well. Storm can also control the very fundamental forces that determine weather itself anywhere like the planet's magnetic fields, taking control of the magnetosphere on multiple occasions.[323]
The Weather Goddess
Her precise control over the atmosphere allows her to create special weather effects. She can create precipitation at higher or lower altitudes than normal, make whirlwinds travel pointing lengthwise in any direction, channel ambient electromagnetism through her body to generate electric blasts, flash freeze objects and people, coalesce atmospheric pollutants into acid rain or toxic fog, and, along with her natural ability of flight, summon wind currents strong enough to support her weight to elevate herself (or others) to fly at high altitudes and speeds. Her control is so great that she can even manipulate the air in a person's lungs. She can also control the pressure inside the human inner ear, an ability she uses to cause intense pain. She can also bend light using moisture in the air and her manipulation of mist and fog to appear partially transparent, and in some cases, nearly invisible.[460] Storm has also demonstrated the ability to control natural forces that include cosmic storms, solar wind, ocean currents, and electromagnetic energy. She has demonstrated the ability to separate water molecules into oxygen and hydrogen via electrolysis, allowing her to breathe underwater.[167] While in outer space, she is able to affect and manipulate the interstellar and intergalactic mediums. Such as when she bent primal cosmic forces to create lightning whilst still healing in the Acanti,[461] or when she gathered hydrogen atoms around the Silver Surfer whilst in space to create an atmosphere around him.[224] While bonded to The Acanti, Storm could alter her visual perceptions so as to see the universe in terms of a multi-colored panorama filled with constantly shifting patterns of energy.[461] She can perceive the stars, planets, and even empty space as patterns of force and energy all of which she can control. She once came across a Galactic Core, which consisted of millions of suns and planets crammed into a tiny place. She was able to draw on the living stars and worlds within it, to gain both spiritual and material sustenance. Summoning the power of the entire Core to purge the Brood Queen, for the briefest of moments, a new star shines in the firmament, not unlike the Earth which she draws energy from to manipulate the weather. But in this case, things are magnified to an unimaginable degree. And though Storm was able to manipulate the energies from the Galactic Core to purge the Brood Queen, it also cost her own life in the process.[462] Whether this is something she can repeat, or made possible only on the moment remains unknown. Storm has been shown to be sensitive to the dynamics of the natural world, and her psionic powers over weather are affected by her emotions. One consequence of this connection to nature is that she often suppresses extreme feelings to prevent her emotional state from resulting in violent weather. On the onset of Wolverine's death, she was rushed off planet because the X-Men feared she will set the planet's atmosphere on fire, once in outer space in her grief, she created a geomagnetic storm so powerful it caused global auroras worldwide for hours.[317] She has once sensed a diseased and dying tree on the X-Mansion grounds, detected objects within various atmospheric mediums—including water, and sensed the incorrect motion of a hurricane in the Northern Hemisphere and the gravitational stress on the tides by the Moon and Sun[463] as well as the distortion of a planet's magnetosphere.[464] Storm can view the Earth as weather patterns, and is able to precisely recognize her geographic position through interpretations of these patterns.[465] Storm's mutant abilities are limited by her willpower and the strength of her body. Storm is also able to manipulate earth and fire, creating earthquakes and lava bursts.[323] Storm's abilities also work in other dimensions and realms as in the trion dimension, when she was able to overpower defeat the corrupted Trion and by tapping into the elemental energies of that dimension, was able to heal the rifts in space and time made by trion possessed Juggernaut.[466] This demonstrated that Storm's abilities are far greater than even she anticipated.
- Willpower/Telepathic Resistance: Something that was gradually gained through Ororo's time with the X-Men, Storm has one of the most powerful wills of them all, even defying Dracula's hypnotism.[467] She is a powerful opponent against telepathy in battle. Her resistance is further enhanced by the electrical forces she controls.[442]
- Earth Link: Storm's mutant powers have created a psychic bond between herself and the primal life force of Earth's biosphere. This bond with the Earth and apparently the entire universe, gives Storm spiritual and material sustenance with an almost empathic sense towards living thing. Storm also possesses the ability to sense and detect life forces and she has once sensed a dying tree in the Xavier Mansion. She has once sensed a snowball being tossed and sense the Blackbird cutting the atmosphere even though the distance between them was thousands of miles.[citation needed] She can sense any natural phenomena including earthquakes, storms, etc. Storm can sense movements in the air or water mediums. She also confirmed that she can sometimes sense the very core of creation, describing it as the sacred source behind and within all things and transcends reality itself.[468]
- Temperature Immunity: Ororo's body counteracts extremes of temperature, internally increasing or decreasing her temperature in contrast to its external environment to an unknown degree.[469] In the Antarctic, while trying to alter the blizzards raging over its entirety, she nearly fried her own system.[155]
- Energy Vision: With a blink, Storm can see the physical world around her as energy, including the human body's nervous system, which in turn allows her to counter all but the fastest attack.[177] Added to her already formidable hand-to-hand abilities, this makes her a very tough opponent. Storm has also shown the ability to see in almost complete darkness.[citation needed]
Magical Potential: Storm is descended from a line of African witch-priestesses, which in turn are descendants of Agamotto,[35] Earth's first Sorcerer Supreme and son of the Elder Godess Oshtur. Oshtur appears to have strong favor for the bloodline of Ororo, but also is the source.[470] This line of African women has been given distinguishing features of white hair, blue eyes, and powerful magic potential.[63] Storm usually calls out to a goddess that she called "Bright Lady", who was later revealed as Oshtur;[471] she has already had a vision of the goddess and she has the same physical characteristics as her and her ancestors.[56] Although Storm has not developed her magical potential, it has been hinted at. The Tarot asserts Storm as being "High Priestess," the First Tarot's choice one-third of the time. The other draws were the Scarlet Witch and Agatha Harkness. These three characters split the High Priestess card equally.[472] Even though she hadn't realized her potential, she had been among powerful mages and witches who were considered by the Eye of Agamotto as a candidate for the new Sorcerer Supreme.[473]
- Spells and Phrases: Storm learned from Doctor Voodoo an African spell. After the fulfillment of several conditions, the name of the spell is uttered and the victim of this spell plummets to their doom.[35]
- Portal Creation: When four mages channeled their combined energy into Illyana Rasputina who attempted to open a portal to Limbo from another dimension, she wasn't able to contain all this energy. Storm then told her to channel this energy into her and together they managed to open the portal and return to Limbo.[474]
Divine Powers: After her mutant powers manifested Ororo brought rain to various areas in Africa affected by drought. For her actions she was worshipped as the goddess of weather,[86][73] storm,[2] rain,[238] wind[89] and harvest[21] for several years, until Charles Xavier told her about true source of her control over the weather. Later on she gained actual divine powers on several occasions. According to T'Challa, Ororo have a gift of godhead passed from her ancestors.[44]
- Storm God: Storm Gods are born from primordial forces of Eternity's emotions rage, anger and twisted desire to be indomitable. [22] Ororo Munroe's an anomaly among them. Storm is not descended from any pantheon of gods, but born mortal and remains on Earth. However, Storm ascended beyond her mortal form. The first occurrence was during an incident in which Storm was encased in chrome in Doom's castle. This triggered a trauma response and visceral demand for freedom. As a result, Ororo "evolved into a being beyond all comprehension" in a fit of rage and desperation, known as Rogue Storm.[456] Storm described the experience as transcendance.[172] During the Thunder War, Storm's status as a storm god is met with disdain and aggression by storm gods of various pantheons since she's mortal, the youngest of them, and considered the weakest.[445] In a fit of rage and grief, Storm transcends into a state with enough power to harm Infinity, an abstract entity, personification of space and embodiment of the universe itself.[445] Storm invokes her descent from Oshtur, an Elder God, her magical lineage she shares with Agamotto, and domain over the elements in the confrontation. This transformation is identical to the vision Storm saw of herself cosmically empowered by the Black Vortex,[475] if she submitted to it's power. However, Ororo awakened this cosmic power from within. At the conclusion of the Thunder War, Storm sustains severe injuries in her battle to defend the universe.[22] She then transcends into this cosmic form again. Her previous injuries were healed and she had enough strength to hold off the stronger and older storm god, Hadad, before getting assistance from Eternity.
- Goddess of Thunder: During the time she had temporarily lost her mutant powers Storm and the X-Men were captured by the Asgardian trickster god, Loki. Loki played on her earning to regain powers and forged an enchanted hammer Stormcaster, a weaker replica of Thor, God of Thunder's hammer Mjolnir. While wielding the Stormcaster she was transformed into Goddess of Thunder with similar to Thor's powers. However, the hammer also affected her mind. Storm eventually managed to control herself and let go of the hammer and its power.[110] Few years later Thor discovered Stormcaster in Asgard and brought it to Ororo, not knowing about its history. Ororo became the Goddess of Thunder again, but then used Mjolnir to seemingly destroy Stormcaster.[476] Nevertheless, some time later Stormcaster returned to Earth and reunited with Storm yet again.[350] This time she had a much better control over its power and used the hammer for months, until it was completely destroyed to defeat evil god Uovu.[354] Few years later Thor gathered Storm, Loki, Beta Ray Bill and Jane Foster and together they all temporarily wielded Mjolnir and gained its power to help Thor defeat Toranos, the Elder God of Thunder.[30] When Ororo was wondering whether she should join the Avengers or not, Thor informed her that he planned to leave, and advised her to agree so that the Avengers could still have a God of Thunder.[29]
- Hadari Yao: The faith of Wakandans helped her ascend and become a goddess, Hadari Yao, the Goddess who preserves the balance of all natural things.[8] This power helped her to dissipate otherwordly tempest that manifested as a portal to the netherworlds and defeat Adversary, also known as Sefako The Twice Risen God.[8][44]
Avatar of Life: According to her ancestor Ashake, Ororo is an "Avatar of Life".[432] As an Avatar of Life, Ororo possesses a strong spirit and a deep connection to nature and life as a whole, a connection which is heavily represented by her magical and divine potential, as well as her mutant powers. On a separate note, it has been stated that Storm's spirit is so strong that she was able to host the consciousness of an avatar (or "manifestation body")[477] of Eternity; in a gathering consisting of herself, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Silver Surfer and the Fantastic Four, she and Strange were the only viable candidates.[232] More recently, Ororo was proven worthy and capable by Eternity as a mortal host and vessel for the entity, as her body was remade and empowered by the entity itself for such a purpose.[38] While the full scale of Storm's newfound power is currently unclear, she is now powerful enough to defeat ancient spirits such as Eēgūn with ease, as well as kill the Sorcerer Supreme; Victor Von Doom with similar ease, had Storm not stopped herself from doing so.
Temporal Powers: Storm was archived within the Lumeary Archive, a multiversal repository maintained by interdimensional beings that record and preserve multiversal history. Through a connection between her soul and Earth-616 timeline, she entered the Archive and encountered Blue, an anomaly who had seized control of a vast section containing nearly infinite realities. Blue became a composite entity by drawing fragments from Storms across the multiverse. Storm ultimately defeated Blue by absorbing the Archive's network into herself. [478] Adversary stated Storm had power that was spiritual and temporal even banishing her to an alternate dimension over her potential. [479]
Abilities
- Master Thief: Starting from 6 years old Ororo was trained by Achmed El Gibár to steal, pick pockets and locks. Within a year she became the best thief in Cairo. Ahmed continued to train her and taught her to dexterously use not only both hands, but also toes and mouth to pick locks. He also trained her to escape from handcuffs, ropes and other restrains.[51][72][75] After she left the Cairo and arrived in Kenya, her training was continued by the Teacher, who claimed that her skills were mediocre, but soon she overcame him and became able to open locks even he was unable to.[69] Ororo kept and honed her skills and still uses them sometimes.[72][480][242] She has been teaching some of her skills to the students at the Jean Grey School.[citation needed]
- Expert Combatant: Ororo is a gifted and formidable hand-to-hand combatant with years of close quarter combat experience. She was trained by Achmed El Gibar and the Black Panther in her youth, and later extensively trained by Wolverine and learned techniques from the ronin Yukio. She has bested more powerful fighters like Callisto by using her prowess and her cunning.
- Weapons Expert: She is an excellent marksman with handguns and is experienced in the use of various firearms. Ororo is also highly skilled with wielding knives, experienced in the use of the bo staff, and trained in sword fighting by the finest warriors in Wakanda.
- Leadership: Storm has strong natural leadership skills and has lead teams of X-Men for years. She is a highly accomplished and skilled strategist, tactician, and field commander.
- Expert Gardener: Ororo is also an excellent gardener owing to her supernatural abilities and has her own botanical gardens at the Xavier Mansion.
- Multilingual: Storm is fluent in English, Arabic,[481] Swahili,[citation needed] Russian,[482] Japanese,[483] Wakandan,[citation needed] and Yoruba.[citation needed]
- Pilot: Storm is an accomplished pilot with experience in piloting advanced aircraft that include Wakandan Ships[484] or the Blackbird.
- Indomitable Will:[485] Ororo has an exceptionally strong will, thanks to years of practice to control the weather. She has shown the strength of will to effectively resist the world's most powerful telepaths, such as Professor X, Jean Grey, Rachel Summers, the Shadow King, and Emma Frost. She has also shown the strength of will and spirit to host the conscience of the abstract entity Eternity to help save his life and the universe, a feat few beings could do, as well as hide the Panther God Bast in her mind in order to defeat the Shadow King.
Weaknesses
- Claustrophobia (practically formerly): Having been trapped under rubble for three days in Cairo while her mother lay dying, Storm's claustrophobia was once so severe, it rendered her completely helpless. However, she has more or less conquered her fear, though tight spaces still make her uncomfortable. These flashbacks still attack her when she is enclosed.[486]
- Emotional Influence: Storm's ability to manipulate the weather in her immediate vicinity is affected by her emotions; hence, if she does not maintain control, a fit of rage might induce a destructive storm. As a result, Storm has in the past kept a tight rein on all extreme emotions.
- Physical Condition: Storm is limited by the force of her will and the strength of her body. It once took her several hours to put an end to a savage blizzard sweeping over much of Canada, and she nearly killed herself from exhaustion in the process.
- Naturally Occurring Limitation: Storm respects the natural boundaries of the planet's biosphere, and manipulates weather patterns as they naturally exist. For example, she could end a drought in one area by creating torrential rains there, but that would necessitate robbing all available moisture from the surrounding area. (In contrast, Thor, whose weather affecting ability is magical, can change the weather in one area without disrupting existing weather patterns anywhere else). Storm does not typically create atmospheric conditions that cannot exist naturally on the planet she is on. She could not, for example, lower temperatures as far as absolute zero or raise them to solar intensities. However, when the situation has called for it, Ororo has created natural and unnatural phenomena which do not exist on Earth, such as Jovian atmospheric pressure, a massive tornado that reaches to the upper atmosphere of the planet, or when she superheated plasma.
Paraphernalia
Equipment
- Lockpicks: Storm often carries lockpicks with her, a habit from her childhood. Originally she was hiding them behind her tiara.[72] Even when she was the queen of Wakanda she still carried the lockpicks with her.[242]
- Cameo Crystal: It was given to Ororo by M'Rin to get into her dimension.[93]
Weapons
- Keeps a large knife and staff for necessary occasions.
Transportation
Flight by the wind currents, X-Men Blackbird;
Notes
- Storm is best friends with Jean Grey.[91][487]
- Storm was one of the first mutants that Professor Xavier met before founding the X-Men.[74]
- Storm's white hair apparently is part of her family legacy, being unrelated to her mutation, as X-Men: Declassified #1 states that "born with white hair and blue eyes, [her] genetic mutation would not manifest until she reached adolescence."
- Chris Claremont, the writer of Uncanny X-Men, hinted that Storm was bisexual. However, due to Jim Shooter's anti-gay policies, her relationship with Yukio remained entirely subtextual. In Wolverine & the X-Men (Vol. 2) #12, an AXIS inversion spell caused Storm to kiss a woman on panel. Writer Frank Tieri tweeted that this kiss exemplified Ororo's bisexuality, citing her relationship with Yukio as another example.[488]
- Al Ewing, the writer of X-Men: Red (Vol. 2) and Resurrection of Magneto, also wrote Ororo as bisexual during his tenure on the character.[489]
Trivia
- Storm was originally conceived by Dave Cockrum as "the Black Cat," a character who could transform into a feline creature or a house cat. The character was shelved for a time, along with the rest of the new X-Men project, and ultimately made redundant by the large number of cat-themed characters that had been introduced in the interim. When the project resumed, it was decided that the team needed another female character, and Roy Thomas suggested replacing the weather-controlling Typhoon with a female equivalent. Cockrum then quickly outlined the idea for Storm, leaving the Black Cat costume unchanged but changing the character's hair from brunette to white.[490]
- In the 70s, Dave Cockrum planned to create an all-female team named The Furies which teamed-up Storm with Clea, Tigra, Namorita, Dragonfly, and a new character called Moon Fang. Despite the book being tentatively greenlit, Cockrum never finished the plot for the team's first story, and the idea eventually fell apart.[491]
- The name "Ororo" means "Beauty".[492][467][493] When T'Challa first heard her name, he immediately recognized it as Kenyan,[82] even though there is no Kenyan language; Kenya has two official languages, Swahili and English, and almost 70 other languages are used across the country.
- When she married King T'Challa and became a queen of Wakanda, her married name was Ororo Iqadi T'Challa, while the short form of her royal title was Ororo Komo Wakandas. The full form of her title was never stated, but, according to Ororo, in Hausa dialect it took around five minutes to recite it.[10]
- In Uncanny X-Men #253 while Storm was in the hospital after being reverted into a pre-teen body, one of the doctors said, "But her features don't fit any conventional classification. Not Negroid, Caucasian, or Oriental -- Yet somehow, an amalgam of the rarest elements of them all."
- Storm is currently one of the only people on Earth-616 who has been a member of the X-Men, Avengers, and Fantastic Four. The others are Spider-Man and Wolverine.
- Storm's original spacious attic garden and bed room was made for her by Nightcrawler.[494] With the destruction of the original X-Mansion, Storm, has since taken up residency and rebuilt her garden in one of the many free floating towers of the new Grey School.[292]
- Ororo was a partial nudist, due to her time being worshipped as a goddess,[2] and during her time with X-Men.[495][496] She eventually learned from Jean to dress regularly in clothing.
- In celebration of Marvel Comics 80th anniversary, Storm, along with Mystique and Dark Phoenix were featured in a special line of Barbie fashion dolls.[497]
- In X-Men #102, Ororo's birth year is given as being late 1950 or early 1951, thus making her 25 during the issue at hand. However, this should be considered non-canonical per the Sliding Timescale of Earth-616.
- Ororo's age at the time she joined the X-Men is unclear. She left Cairo when she was around 12 and travelled for almost a year,[51] but was still 12 when she first met T'Challa.[69] They travelled together for some time before she settled in Uzuri, so presumably she was around 13 at the time. It wasn't specified for how long she stayed with the tribe, but it was mentioned that there were "years of drought" she helped to deal with.[316] When she visited her father's old apartment in Harlem, Ororo mentioned that it was "over twenty years ago" since she lived there with her parents.[50] On another occasion she mentioned what she first encountered Charles Xavier when she was 6 years old and hadn't met him again "for almost two decades".[73] Another occasion shows that Ororo is 30 years old [478]. So, presumably she was at least 20/21 years old when she joined the X-Men.
- Ororo had on several occasions invoked and prayed to a unknown goddess she referred to as just "Goddess", the "Bright Lady"[56] and "Mother Nature"/"Mother Earth",[498] confirmed to be Elder Goddesses Oshtur and Gaia.[499] In case of Oshtur, it is possible that she was worshipped by her family for generations, since her ancestor Ashake was Oshtur's disciple and priestess.[471] Another possibility is what Ororo started to worship the Bright Lady under the influence of her teacher Achmed El Gibár, who prayed to the Bright Lady as well.[75] She prayed to the Bright Lady since her childhood.[64] Storm also claimed that her powers were bestowed to her by the earth mother Gaia.[37]
- The Rain Queens from from Balobedu people (South Africa) are called Mujaji or Modjadji,[500][501] who possibly inspired the creation of the goddess Mujaji, one of the Orisha, the Gods of Wakanda.
- The writer of Storm: Lifedream #1, Angélique Roché, confirmed Storm was chosen to be archived for all of eternity due to being the linchpin of a timeline. The writer stated major events around Storm molds and shifts the timeline, and Storm's character strongly impacts the timeline.[502]
Awards[]
For the Glyph Comics Awards in 2007, Ororo was the most successful comic and was the winner for the best comic of the year, by Eric Jerome Dickey, David Yardin & Lan Medina and Jay Leisten & Sean Parsons.
