Rock and Roll Hall of Famen rakennus Clevelandissä Eriejärven rannalla.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Clevelandissä, Ohiossa sijaitseva museo ja kunniagalleria, jonka tarkoituksena on kerätä ja säilyttää rock-musiikkiin merkittävästi vaikuttaneiden artistien ja tuottajien historiaa.[1]

Museo

[muokkaa | muokkaa wikitekstiä]

Museon perustamisesta vastanneen Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -säätiön perusti vuonna 1983 joukko musiikkiteollisuuden johtohahmoja.

Museorakennuksen suunnitteli arkkitehti I. M. Pei.

Kunniagalleria

[muokkaa | muokkaa wikitekstiä]

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame -kunniagalleriaan on mahdollista päästä 25 vuotta ensimmäisen levyn julkaisemisen jälkeen ja ehdokkailta odotetaan merkittävää, osoitettavissa olevaa vaikuttamista rockin historiaan.[4] Kunniagalleriassa on neljä kategoriaa: esiintyjät, ei-esiintyjät, varhaiset vaikuttajat ja vuodesta 2000 eteenpäin ”tukijoukot” (sidemen) eli sessio- ja konserttimuusikot.

Kunniagalleriaan otetaan vuosittain muutamia uusia jäseniä näyttävässä seremoniassa. Se järjestettiin ensimmäisinä vuosina New Yorkin Waldorf Astoria -hotellissa, myöhemmin Clevelandissa ja Los Angelesissa, ja vuonna 2014 se pidettiin New Yorkin Brooklynin Barclays Centerissä.[5]

Ensimmäisinä kunniagallerian jäseniksi pääsivät tammikuussa 1986 Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, ja Elvis Presley.[6] Ainoa pohjoismaalainen listalle päässyt on ruotsalainen pop-yhtye ABBA.

Uusien jäsenten valintaprosessi on herättänyt keskustelua ja erityisesti progressiivisen rockin ja heavy metalin edustajat ovat katsoneet joutuneensa tarkoitushakuisesti syrjäytetyiksi.[7] Toisten mielestä puolestaan uusia jäseniä otetaan vuosittain liikaa ja jäsenyyden arvo on kokenut inflaation.lähde?
