iOS 26

iOS 26 is the nineteenth major release of the iOS mobile operating system that is in development at Apple to succeed iOS 18. It was announced at the 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9 and it was released on September 15, 2025.[1]

Version numbering[]

There is no iOS 19 through 25. In June 2025, Apple revised the various version numbers of its new SDK and operating systems to unify them under "26", instituting an easier-to-remember major version number reflecting the subsequent year for future releases.[2]

The new and updated features of iOS 26 include:[3]

Supported devices[]

Apple is limiting compatibility to devices using the Apple A13 chip or later, eliminating support for the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max due to GPU requirements to support new UI graphics, such as Liquid Glass.[4][5] Also, this is the first iOS version to not support iPhones with 3D Touch.
