厄立特里亞係非洲東北部一國，隔離就係紅海，首都係阿斯馬拉，錢用厄立特里亞納克法。
厄立特里亞本身係埃塞俄比亞開嘅屯墾區，1890年畀意大利攞咗，做殖民地，第二次世界大戰後經聯合國同意，同埃塞俄比亞組成聯邦。1962年畀埃塞俄比亞併吞，做其第14省。
1991年埃塞俄比亞共產政權倒台，新政府同意厄立特里亞以全民投票決定去留。投票喺1993年4月聯合國嘅斡旋同監督之下舉行，結果以99.8%贊成通過脫離埃塞俄比亞。5月24號厄立特里亞就宣佈獨立。
