Discussion
[edit]
Comment I slightly tend toward oppose but this is not an oppose-comment (so far at least): I think videos should be added only if they're sufficiently related and then do belong into the video property, possibly with an appropriate qualifier and/or caption. Some or all of the example videos do not belong into the item(s). --Prototyperspective (talk) 17:12, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- If there were any videos depicting the subjects then this property would obviously have been removed and replaced
- This property is just for when we dont have anything better Trade (talk) 22:10, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Is the examples more to your taste now? Trade (talk) 22:14, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
Support This is useful for news events where a video wouldn't actually depict the event taking place, but instead a press briefing by a police department, for example. -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 22:29, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- the White House press briefings uploaded to YT are good examples as well Trade (talk) 22:14, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
Comment Generally I think we have avoided "related" properties as being too generic; also I am concerned that this would lead to a huge number of statements on items frequently discussed in video format (politicians for example). It seems to me this property would be better handled in the reverse direction where I think just using main subject (P921) on the commons media file would suffice. ArthurPSmith (talk) 21:55, 25 May 2025 (UTC)
- The only "related" properties we have avoided are those used to list other items. That would not apply here for obvious reasons. Also "It seems to me this property would be better handled in the reverse direction where I think just using main subject (P921) on the commons media file would suffice." This doesnt actually solve any of the issues i have brought up by not having this Trade (talk) 23:18, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
Oppose I think this should be modelled this: File:Jp themesong 2.webmmain subject (P921)4chan (Q238330) --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 19:31, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
- That's on WIkimedia Commons. This is for Wikidata Trade (talk) 12:15, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
- you can create an item for the video. Richard Vinterland (talk) 21:55, 15 September 2025 (UTC)

Support. We have related image (P6802); seems only natural to have a video version of the property. –IagoQnsi (talk) 02:37, 12 August 2025 (UTC)
- What kind are the relations of in P6802? Richard Vinterland (talk) 19:46, 17 October 2025 (UTC)

Oppose declare on the video what it shows, not on the item, what videos are "related". Richard Vinterland (talk) 21:54, 15 September 2025 (UTC)
- There is nothing wrong with using a related video when no video depicting the entity is available. The only difference is that people will use P10 instead, making it impossible to tell whether or not the video actually depicts the entity or not Trade (talk) 15:08, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
- A lot is wrong. What kind of relation? What is the related video about? Create an item for the video and describe what it shows, will the subject be an object there? Richard Vinterland (talk) 19:44, 17 October 2025 (UTC)

Oppose "Related" is a horribly vague term. After deprecation of P642 (P642) we shouldn't make the same mistakes. — Draceane talkcontrib. 14:01, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
- related image (P6802) have never been deprecated. Trade (talk) 00:30, 3 October 2025 (UTC)
- The whole point is that we do not always have videos depicting a subject. Hence why we sometimes have to use a video that is about the subject but does not depict them/it Trade (talk) 07:14, 4 October 2025 (UTC)

- No, that would be silly Trade (talk) 01:49, 28 November 2025 (UTC)
