Motivation

[edit]

Foto Atlas (fotoatlas.net) is a Turkish cultural heritage photography database launched on 2 November 2023. It currently hosts 8,837 published titles and approximately 5,000 taxonomy entries, of which 1,500+ already have Wikidata QIDs linked. The taxonomy covers cultural heritage sites, photographers, archives, and other entities related to Turkish cultural heritage documentation. This property would enable systematic linking between Wikidata items and their corresponding Foto Atlas taxonomy pages, supporting Wikidata:Cultural heritage of Turkey and cultural heritage documentation efforts. — Sadrettin (talk) 19:38, 10 March 2026 (UTC)reply

Discussion

[edit]

We can reach all together of any Turkish cultural heritage and other place's older photographs as a list or on the map. You can reach in a few seconds when you need older views of any cultural heritage. So any opensources can reach easily via QID to photographs. For example another Wikidata Identifier kulturenvanteri.com is waiting for this acceptance. Canercangul (talk) 20:21, 12 March 2026 (UTC)reply

The data produced by Foto Atlas makes an important contribution by referencing different open-access online photo archives, classifying their contents, and identifying the cultural heritage assets depicted in the photographs. In this way, information that is sometimes left unidentified in open archives can be defined more clearly, and inaccuracies can be corrected through comparison across different sources. At the same time, the geolocation of these photographs allows the determination of their position and orientation. Cultural heritage structures included in Foto Atlas and matched to the appropriate QIDs can also be linked more easily via Wikidata to the corresponding entries in the Cultural Inventory (Q116810382). — Alicembasli
