Digital Public Goods Registry
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Generic
Motivation
[edit]The Digital Public Goods Registry (Q137757733) is an online registry of digital As good (Q102440913) maintained by the Digital Public Goods Alliance (Q102440976). To be recognised as a digital public good, software, datasets, AI models, standards or content must comply with the open source Digital Public Goods Standard (Q102442905).
Because the registry contains extensive metadata, including links to the Sustainable Development Goals (Q7649586), ownership, licensing and documentation, it would be useful to require several additional statements when using these proposed properties. I therefore suggest that the following properties be mandatory alongside them: complies with (P5009)Digital Public Goods Standard (Q102442905)

Support although the URL with slug has the ID in the page, I would think it's best to also have the ID, because IDs surely won't be changed. It would be nice to have an URL based on the ID but that does not seem possible, so we can have both for now. Arcstur (talk) 01:30, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
- I looked into it and someone even asked the developpers but that isn't possible for the moment JhowieNitnek (talk) 07:00, 17 March 2026 (UTC)
Comment I'm not sure if owned by should be mandatory, because even if the information is in the registry, it could be owned by a non-notable entity. Ainali (talk) 13:24, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Ainali I think the owner becomes notable by owning the entity. JhowieNitnek (talk) 13:49, 18 March 2026 (UTC)
- No, that's not necessarily true. The notability criteria says that the concept should be described by references, but all we get in the registry is the name, nothing describing the owner in any way. Ainali (talk) 15:14, 18 March 2026 (UTC)

Done as Digital Public Good ID (P14223) and Digital Public Goods Registry slug (P14224). Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 10:09, 28 March 2026 (UTC)
Secund discussion for changing datatype
[edit]- ZI Jony, I only noticed now that "string" was the proposed data type for the ID... Digital Public Good ID (P14223) shouldn't be an external identifier? Arcstur (talk) 02:42, 29 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Arcstur, could you please provide a formatter URL, and link of identifier for those examples? Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 15:35, 29 March 2026 (UTC)
- @ZI Jony there is no formatter URL available, as this ID does not have an URL associated with it. Now that you asked I see that this is probably the reason it's a string and not an external id. Best, Arcstur (talk) 00:48, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
- That's said. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 05:41, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
- External IDs are not required to have formatter URLs. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:40, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
- I know that, even I've created several External IDs without formatter URLs. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 01:00, 31 March 2026 (UTC)
- I wasn't replying to your comment. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 08:00, 31 March 2026 (UTC)
- Well, then @Pigsonthewing do you think it would be better to make Digital Public Good ID (P14223) an external id? Arcstur (talk) 03:50, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
- Yes. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 07:11, 2 April 2026 (UTC)

- @JhowieNitnek, ArthurPSmith, Ainali, Dcflyer: are you agree to change the datatype as external-id for Digital Public Good ID (P14223) an proposed by Arcstur. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 07:08, 3 April 2026 (UTC)
- @ZI Jony Fine by me JhowieNitnek (talk) 07:14, 3 April 2026 (UTC)
- Agree. Ainali (talk) 08:09, 3 April 2026 (UTC)
- Yes - but how do you propose to do that? I believe the Wikimedia DE people can change it under the hood somehow. Or replace with a new property? ArthurPSmith (talk) 12:57, 3 April 2026 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith, I created a task on Wikimedia Phabricator for changing datatype from string to external identifier. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 16:43, 3 April 2026 (UTC)
