Motivation

[edit]

BiDünyaFilm has been online since 2007, is free without registration, exposes machine-readable JSON-LD for every film and person (documented at https://www.bidunyafilm.com/llms.txt) and embeds schema.org structured data on all pages. Its editorial policy prioritizes primary sources (the films' own opening credits) and openly corrects errors found in secondary sources, which makes it particularly valuable for Yeşilçam-era films that are poorly or incorrectly documented elsewhere. Discussion

[edit]
  • Not even notable enough for a WD entry, so  Oppose Vicarage (talk) 13:34, 10 July 2026 (UTC)reply
Respectfully, "not notable" isn't a real objection here — notability for an external-ID property has never required the source itself to have a Wikipedia article. It requires the source to be a useful, authoritative identifier for its domain. IMDb didn't have a Wikipedia page when its property was proposed either; neither does SinemaTürk, whose property (P6256) already exists on Wikidata.
BiDünyaFilm has been online since 2007. It holds 12,000+ film records with Turkish-language editorial content, of which nearly 5,000 are Turkish productions spanning the entire history of Turkish cinema from its earliest years (1910s) to today — verified against primary sources: opening credits, contemporary press coverage, and academic monographs. In several documented cases, it holds the only existing record of a film anywhere online — for example, a 1918 lost Turkish film with no IMDb or TMDB entry at all, sourced here from a 1981 academic study and cross-referenced against period newspapers.
A one-line "oppose" with no engagement of these facts, from an editor who by their own account has no connection to Turkish cinema, isn't a substantive review — it's a dismissal. If you have an actual concern about data quality, licensing, formatter URL, or scope, I'll address it point by point. Otherwise I'd ask the reviewing community to weigh this against the actual proposal criteria, not an unsupported assertion.

Thanks for the correction, Yirba — appreciate you catching that (P6256, not P8656) and for the additional precedent dates. Fixed the typo above. ODemirel (talk) 19:11, 10 July 2026 (UTC)reply
