Splashdown

[edit]

Notified participants of WikiProject Astronomy Which is the correct qualifier to indicate, here and in location of landing (P1158), that a landing is in fact a splashdown (Q1642255)? I tried object of statement has role (P3831) in Apollo 7 (Q188486) (see Q188486#P620 and Q188486#P1158), but better alternatives may be available. Thanks, --Epìdosis 14:17, 1 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Epìdosis, I would recommend has characteristic (P1552)splashdown (Q1642255). That said, if location of landing (P1158) is provided, then qualifying either statement with splashdown (Q1642255) seems redundant. It will be clear enough. — Huntster (t @ c) 20:48, 1 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Should the value account for delay due to long-distance communication?

[edit]

For example, Perseverance (Q87749354)UTC date of spacecraft landing (P620)18 February 2021refine date (P4241)20:55 (Q55812711), but in the cited article it clearly says "Confirmation of the successful touchdown was announced in mission control [...] 12:55 p.m. PST," implying that was the moment the telemetry/video feeds were received at the JPL and the actual touchdown was about 11 minutes earlier. enwiki says something to that effect. @YoshiRulz: The time given in the item is UTC. Nevermind, I misunderstood. It's a good point. I found https://dataverse.jpl.nasa.gov/file.xhtml?fileId=65142&version=3.0 which clearly gives the reconstructed time as 20:43:49 SCET. I'll change the item to reflect that. — Huntster (t @ c) 16:16, 20 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Spacecraft Event Time (Q7572660) seems like the perfect solution, thank you. YoshiRulz (talk) 01:54, 21 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
