We may be living in a golden age of TV, but panning through all the dross to find that gold can be time-consuming and tedious. For every much-discussed hit like Severance, House of the Dragon, and The Bear, there are dozens of new original shows that barely tip the cultural needle. And with so many new streaming services competing with HBO, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and Disney Plus, it’s impossible to keep up with everything new to view. But The Verge’s TV section is ready to help. Our news, reviews, and interviews help you find the next Stranger Things or Star Trek: Strange New Worlds in time to keep up with the cultural conversation. And our essays and analysis invite you to consider the deeper context of what you’re watching.

Sony, which acquired Crunchyroll in 2021, is launching a hub for the anime streaming service on the PS5 in spring 2027, as reported earlier by Variety. According to Deadline, one of the shows that Vin Diesel announced during NBC’s upfronts in May is going into production. The latest trailer for Disney Plus’ upcoming VisionQuest series gives use our best look yet at Ruaridh Mollica’s Tommy Shepherd — the reincarnated son of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany’s Vision. It seems like he (and that curious accent) are going to be a big part of the show when it premiered on October 14th.

Mike Flanagan’s first Amazon series is a (mostly) excellent update of the classic Stephen King tale.
The latest episode of South Park — sorry, South America — is overrun by “billionaire weenies” and their data centers. Worse, it’s a dangerous new strain who “like to go on podcasts and get into public arguments with Mark Ruffalo.” This clip should give you an idea of the problem:
Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest will debut on June 6th, 2029, Variety reports. Owen Harris, an executive producer and director for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is set to direct the film.
It’s been a solid year for crime thrillers with the likes of Furious, and now Apple TV is entering the fray with Nocturne. It’s hard to gather too much from the new trailer — though Stephen Graham is shaping up to be a very fun serial killer — but the show starts streaming on October 30th.
He’ll play a character named Joey who wasn’t in the games. Ian Alexander, who voiced Lev in The Last of Us: Part II, will play opposite him as another original character, Paco. Laura Bailey, who voiced Abby in the game, will join the cast as Elizabeth, a leader of the Seraphites cult.

The new Home screen now blends live and on-demand content, but some users say it’s slower, makes channel surfing harder, and pushed the channel guide under Live TV. Paramount is already promising more tweaks, like bringing back Kids Mode and adding an in-player live channel changer.

HBO’s Hacks was a magnet for well-deserved Emmys, and I was personally delighted to hear that the complete series would come to Blu-ray. The set recently went up for preorder, costing $69.99 at Amazon, and includes cast screen tests, deleted scenes, bloopers, table reads, and more detailed at Blu-ray.com.

First there was Squid Game: The Challenge, then there was Willy Wonka’s Golden Ticket, and now Netflix is turning Stanford professor Philip Zimbardo’s highly unethical prison experiment into yet another deranged reality series.
Correction: The New Stanford Prison Experiment is an unscripted reality series, not a reality competition show.
According to a new report from Luminate, lengthy gaps between s treaming shows are one of the reasons people stop watching them. That feels right, but we want to hear from you: does waiting a few years for a series to come back make you more inclined to move on?

On sale today to mark Star Trek’s 60th anniversary (though it’s not live on their US store just yet), Le Creuset’s Starfleet-inspired set is a joyous celebration of the original series that follows similar crossovers with Star Wars and Pokémon in the past. There’s a functional vault door and a Pip-Boy displays important game information. There’s even a V.A.T.S. cannon that shoots the ball targets on an upper playfield.

The latest trailer for Netflix’s Willy Wonka-inspired reality competition show features a lot more voiceover from an AI-generated clone of Gene Wilder. The AI of it all was already ridiculous, but it’s even weirder to hear how much the AI voice sounds like Wilder doing an impression of RuPaul explaining Drag Race challenges.
