Two separate low intensity explosions within a span of a few hours were reported near military areas in Punjab’s Amritsar and Jalandhar, on Tuesday (May 5, 2026), stoking anxiety. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over what he termed “small blasts”, while State police chief Gaurav Yadav attributed the incidents to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence.
A low-intensity explosion was reported from the boundary wall of the Indian Army’s cantonment area at Khasa Road in Amritsar on Tuesday night at about 11 p.m. Earlier in the evening, at around 8 p.m. in Jalandhar, a scooter parked near the headquarters of the Border Security Force’s Punjab Frontier caught fire. Some locals claimed they had heard a blast-like sound from the vehicle.
