Emma Heming Willis wants the world to know that Bruce Willis is still building his legacy.
The couple has been navigating Bruce’s frontotemporal dementia (FTD) diagnosis since February 2023. While he has stepped away from the Hollywood spotlight to focus on his health, his wife is using their public platform to bring awareness to the disease.
“I can’t go through World FTD Awareness Week without talking about Bruce,” she captioned a recent Instagram post. “He is the driving force behind my advocacy. He has opened so many doors for me in this work, and I will continue to walk through them.”
A Promise to Families
Emma is determined to use her family’s experience to support caregivers and patients who feel invisible in their own struggles. She promised her followers that she will not let his diagnosis happen without a purpose. Instead, she wants Bruce’s story to help bring attention and resources to those facing similar health crises.
“I will not let his diagnosis be in vain,” she wrote. “I know how proud he would be to know that he is helping families living with FTD, other forms of dementia, and their care partners be seen and heard.”
The heartfelt message also drew support from their blended family. Bruce’s daughter Scout Willis praised her stepmother in the comments, writing, “I’m so proud of you. I love you so much, Emma.”
Spreading Awareness
To help her followers truly understand the condition, Emma often discusses the daily realities of FTD.
In a previous video, she explained that the disease causes a gradual loss of nerve cells in the brain’s frontal and temporal lobes.
“FTD doesn’t always begin with memory loss. That’s one of the ways it differs from Alzheimer’s disease. FTD affects the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, and it can look different from person to person,” she said. “It could begin with changes in behavior, personality and judgment. For others, it may affect language, communication or movement.”
Emma continues to focus on the man Bruce is today — and the impact his story can have on others.
“In this next chapter of his life, Bruce continues to build on his legacy.” she continued. “He is, and always will be, a [expletive] legend. And I am so proud to be his wife.”
