Critics Consensus

It may lack the absurd humor that underlined the original, but the new-look Evil Dead compensates with brutal terror, gory scares, and gleefully bloody violence.

The current reboot feels uncreative. Watching the new film just made me miss Bruce Campbell's chin and shots of Raimi running insane through the woods. Go to Full Review

Using the very latest Cern-tested atom interferometry, we can reveal that Evil Dead is precisely, exactly - in the coldest atomic terms -the film that you were expecting. Go to Full Review

Happy days for those who love this sort of thing. But Raimi's effort, perhaps because we hadn't seen the plot before, was infinitely more scary. Go to Full Review

... barely musters interest because it fails to do anything remarkable with the opportunity. It borrows on nostalgia by gathering similar characters at a familiar location wherein unsightly, horrible things happen to them, yet pushes things not at all. Go to Full Review

Fede Alvarez, has a rare misfire as he makes changes and retains elements that are not faithful to the spirit of the original and prioritizes surprises over relatable character development and dynamics. Go to Full Review

While there were some moments that were very disturbing, I thought it was artfully done and didn’t ever cross the line into tasteless or exploitative. Go to Full Review

Jonatan Feb 26, 2025 This movie is bananas! Gory , nasty, brutal, and unrelenting. Amazing practical effects and kills! People complain cause the tone is different but this is its own thing! Must watxh. See more Andrew H @RT57433453 17 hrs ago All of you who are saying this movie even compared with anything in the franchise are a bunch of losers. The only thing this "movie" had was gore and stupidity. Hollywood junk! There was no climactic verge that the character overcame except some throw back scene with a chainsaw. No witty commentary that made the movies entertaining. Just put it in the machine and turn out something for Netflix and make a "few" bucks. Lame duck losers. Disappointed is an understatement. See more Andrew R @HorrorMovieLover458 19 hrs ago Reminds me of when they remade The Fog. Just full of bad writing and worse characters in comparison to the original. Some good scares and updated gore but not much else. See more David D @RT10717232 2 days ago A worthy remake of the original. It takes to original, visceral violence and adds an actual plot to it. Also, for fans of the original, it subverts expectations of who the sole survivor will be. See more Alex B @AlexBioni 3 days ago I Love You Baby This is hands down my favorite Evil Dead movie. During my high school horror phase, my friends and I saw this in theaters. The first time I watched it, I had nightmares. It's basically a rinse and repeat of the original. A group of friends goes to a cabin, someone reads the Necronomicon, and evil is unleashed. What makes this different is the character development. Their reason for being there makes sense, and I actually cared about them. The acting is great, especially Jane Levy. This takes the story in a much darker direction, and I love it. The Deadites are terrifying, the violence is crazy, and the blood is glorious. The cabin and woods feel eerie and unsettling, especially the basement. The first five minutes show you exactly what kind of movie this is. The tension is great, especially when the woods come to life and the Deadites mutilate themselves. This paved the way for modern Evil Dead movies and will always be my favorite. See more Keira P @RT34763778 6 days ago Absolute amazing thriller full of gore and though not as in the field of comedy an amazing horror film altogether! I seen this movie so many times don’t understand why the ratings aren’t higher! See more Read all reviews
