Neointegrity: Comics Edition
The concept of “neointegrity” arrives on the heels of “neo-sincerity,” a term coined by Art Spiegelman in the wake of September 11th. This show, organized by the painter Keith Mayerson (a broad-minded sequel to a related endeavor in 2007), packs in works by two hundred and ten artists, flattening the hierarchy that separates art from cartooning. Comic-book bigwigs like Al Capp and Charles M. Shulz share the bill with painters Peter Saul, Dana Schutz, and John Wesley, among many, many others. Through May 30.(Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art; March 12-May 30.)
