Interstate 70 will see overnight closures starting Sunday and into next week as crews continue work on the Floyd Hill Project between Evergreen and Idaho Springs, CDOT says.

The first closure will affect eastbound I-70 between Idaho Springs and Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway from 9 p.m. on Sunday to 5 a.m. Oct. 19. Drivers heading eastbound will merge into one lane and use the eastbound I-70 off-ramp to Idaho Springs and then County Road 314 to access eastbound I-70 at Hidden Valley, the Colorado Department of Transportation said in a news release.

The eastbound I-70 off-ramp to Hidden Valley/Central City Parkway will also close at 9 p.m. Sunday and reopen at 6 a.m. on Oct. 23. For a detour, drivers should use the eastbound I-70 off-ramp to Idaho Springs and then travel east on County Road 314 to access Hidden Valley.

There will be two overnight closures of westbound I-70 at U.S. 6 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Oct. 19 and Oct. 20. During that time, westbound drivers will merge into one lane and use the U.S. 6 off- and on-ramps to continue on westbound I-70.

CDOT says the closures are necessary as crews continue work on a new concrete bridge that will eventually carry westbound motorists above the interstate’s current alignment and cross over Clear Creek as part of the the agency’s $900 million overhaul of the mountain corridor. Motorists should expect future overnight closures in both directions in mid-November through mid-December as bridge construction continues, CDOT says.
