Biography
On 28th February The Cluny 2 in Newcastle will host a unique evening of literature and music, bringing together artists from different fields on one stage. The evening will launch the hotly anticipated novel How I Left The National Grid, by Newcastle based author Guy Mankowski, and will feature music from Kingsley Chapman of the acclaimed North East band The Chapman Family. The Chapman Family’s debut album was described by The NME as ‘angsty, cliché free brilliance’. Also on the bill is the Newcastle-born Hausfrau, an act recently described as ‘mesmerising and understated’ by The List.
Guy’s second novel, Letters from Yelena was used as GCSE training material by Osiris Educational. Guy was awarded a studentship to write How I Left The National Grid during a Creative Writing PhD at Northumbria University. The novel builds upon his own experiences as a musician and tells the story of singer Robert Wardner, who vanishes after appearing on Top Of The Pops. The Huffington Post commented ‘Those of us who marvelled at ‘The Secret History’ are sure to find it equally enthralling.’ Man Booker Prize longlistee Andrew Crumey commented ‘Mankowski here establishes himself as a significant voice in British fiction.’
The performance will be from 8pm on the 28th February 2014. For tickets please visit www.thecluny.com
How I Left The National Grid is published by Roundfire Books in February 2015. For media enquiries please contact [email protected] or [email protected]
