Advertiser Verification: Change name or ownership

Google provides translated versions of the Advertising Policies Help Center, though they're not meant to change the content of the policies. The English version is the official language used to enforce Google Ads policies. To view this article in a different language, use the language dropdown at the bottom of the page.

Build trust, increase transparency, and get access to more features by completing advertiser verification. You’ll just need to complete a few tasks, such as answering a few questions about your organization. After getting verified, some of your info will appear in ad disclosures and the Ads Transparency Center, which provides context about an advertiser and their ads.

Note: The “Advertiser verification” page is now “Account” and can be found under Admin > Policy > Account.

Fix issues with organization verification

Want to change the name in the ad disclosure? Did the wrong organization get verified? To get verified for the right organization or the right type of organization, you’ll need to reset an account’s verification and get verified again. Only a Google Ads account admin can do this.

Note: If you had a deadline to complete verification, you’ll get a new deadline after resetting verification.

  1. Expand “Policy” drop-down under Admin Admin Icon and select Account.

  2. Select Reset verification.
  3. Follow the instructions

Change your payment profile account type

You may be able to switch the account type in your account’s “Billing Settings” page. Learn more about how to Change your account type.

If you don’t have the option to select Edit Edit beside your account type on the Billing Settings page, or if you need to update your legal entity name, you’ll likely need to create a new payment profile. This process generally requires assistance from Google Ads support.

To prepare for this process, be ready to:

  • Gather required information: Have your Google Ads Customer ID, a formal authorization statement from the account administrator, and details for the new profile ready like your legal name, address, tax ID for organizations, and contact details.
  • Accept invitations: Once the new profile is created, look for email invitations regarding the new payment user or billing transfer. You must accept these to finalize the setup.
  • Add a payment method: After the new profile is active, add a valid payment method in the "Billing" section of your account to keep your ads running.
Note: Creating a new payment profile will result in the forfeiture of existing promotional credits. Any remaining balance on the old profile will be refunded to the original payment method.

Change your payments profile country or ownership

If you want to change your payments profile country or ownership, you’ll need to contact Google Ads support.

Change your legal name

To change your legal name, you’ll need to provide a document that shows that the legal name has changed but the legal entity remains the same. Keep the following in mind:

  • VAT number changes: A change in your VAT number indicates a new legal entity. Consequently, the company name cannot be updated through this process.
  • Exception: Customers in China can update their VAT ID or Tax Registration Number without a change in business entity. For help on this, you can reach out to Google Ads support.

Impact of changes: Any change to the name will also be reflected on invoices and documents, and will affect all accounts that use the payments profiles.

Note: For successful advertiser verification, ensure the Legal name and Address in your payments profile exactly match your government-issued ID or business registration documents.
Important: If you pay with monthly invoicing, you’ll need to contact us to change your legal name.

To change your legal personal or business name, you’ll need to:

  1. Go to Settings within the Billing menu Billing Icon.
  2. Select Payer details.
  3. Next to Name for individuals, or Organization name for organizations, select the Pencil icon and then select Change name (if available) or Complete a request form.
  4. Follow the instructions to change your name.

You may need to provide additional info and documents to change your name. Once your new name is verified, you’ll get a confirmation email, and the updated name will appear under Payer details.

If there’s an issue with the process, you’ll get an email with more info. You’ll also be able to submit again or cancel the name change request. Your Google Ads account will continue to be verified until the new name is verified.
