Doechii Finally Releases 'Anxiety' — a Song That She Recorded in Her Bedroom in 2019

The Grammy winner broke down the lore surrounding the track on her Instagram Stories

Doechii isn't feeling anxious about this music release.

The "NISSAN ALTIMA" rapper released the song "Anxiety" on Tuesday, March 4. Doechii, 26, originally recorded the song in 2019 in her bedroom for her self-released mixtape Coven Music Sessions.

It was never released until now, and the Grammy winner elaborated on the track's "lore" on her Instagram Stories on March 4.

"So, I'm dropping a song called 'Anxiety,' " she began, explaining the many layers involved. "Now, you may be thinking, 'Anxiety' already came out. So, Sleepy Hallow — amazing artist, by the way — he dropped a song called 'Anxiety' where he was sampling my song called 'Anxiety.' "

Doechii explained that the song she released in 2019 had sampled the 2011 song "Somebody That I Used to Know" by Gotye featuring Kimbra.

"But my song is using the sample of 'Somebody That I Used to Know' and then I took that beat from 'Somebody That I Used to Know' and I made my own song on top of it called 'Anxiety.' So then I dropped that song on YouTube and never hear it streaming."

"And then Sleepy Hallow sampled that, it got approved, and then that song blew up," she continued. "People are finding the original version that I did on YouTube, and that's blowing up on TikTok. And now people want me to release the full version and we're here.

"And I'm releasing it, and it's gonna be out, so, y'all can enjoy the full version and that's the lore behind 'Anxiety.' " She signed off the Instagram Stories blowing a kiss.

Doechii's delayed release comes weeks after her win at the 2025 Grammy Awards. The "Nosebleeds" rapper took home a Gramophone for best rap album.

"I don't wanna make this long, but this category was introduced in 1989. And two women have won — three women have won — Lauryn Hill, Cardi B and Doechii," she said in her moving speech upon accepting the best rap album, mentioning her predecessors in the category.

Doechii continued: "I put my heart and my soul into this mixtape. I bared my life. I went through so much. I dedicated myself to sobriety and God told me I would be rewarded. And I have to thank God."
