Help Needed – A project to grow content and attract more contributors in Nepali Wikipedia

The WMF Language and Product Localization team is planning to launch a campaign project to encourage more native speakers to contribute to your Wikipedia.
Our approach
We will invite native speakers through Nepali Wikipedia homepage to join a 3-week onboarding program in an Event registration page. This program will:
- Guide them step-by-step through an onboarding material on how to edit and use contribution tools to expand articles.
- Surface vital articles that the community has prioritized for improvement and editing tasks can be worked on to improve those articles.
Through this guided onboarding program we will see if this approach will increase contributions from new editors or less experienced editors in your Wikipedia. Tasks you can volunteer to help us with
To make this project successful, we need your community’s help with these key tasks:
- Translate the onboarding materials on this page: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:SSethi_(WMF)/Sandbox/Event:_Vital_Knowledge_Drive_2026#Overview into Nepali.
- Set up a call-to-action message on your homepage using the translations. Admins are needed for this step. Instructions for the setup are on this page. @Biplab Anand and @Saroj, please can you help with this task?
- Create an Event Registration Page on Nepali Wikipedia, and insert the translated materials in it. Here is a sample of the event registration page: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:SSethi_(WMF)/Sandbox/Event:_Vital_Knowledge_Drive_2026#Event:_Vital_Knowledge_Drive_2026
- Identify local Wikipedia articles or lists of articles needing improvement or missing in your Wikipedia. You might find inspiration in the "List of articles every Wikipedia should have". These articles are to be added into the Event page you will create. Our team will help generate links to contribution tools for the selected articles.
Timeline and Next Steps
Please, help us complete these tasks by March 20, 2026. We plan to launch the program on March 23, 2026.

Dear Wikipedians!
Wikimedia Ukraine, in cooperation with the MFA of Ukraine and Ukrainian Institute, has launched the sixth edition of writing challenge "Ukraine's Cultural Diplomacy Month", which lasts from 1st April until 30th April 2026.
The initiative aims to promote knowledge about Ukrainian culture abroad by creating and improving Wikipedia articles in multiple languages. This year marks the sixth edition of the campaign, which will focus on contemporary culture, making today’s artistic voices and practices more visible to international audiences.
🧩How to participate?
Choose an article from the suggested list → Write an article in your language, or improve an existing one according to the rules → Add your contribution to the contest page and calculate your points → Win prizes and receive a certificate of participation → Become a promoter of truthful knowledge about Ukraine.

Invitie: Community language documentation & archiving workshop series
Namaste, we invite Nepali Wikimedians interested in documenting local, Indigenous languages of Nepal in audio and video. This workshop series is for those who already record and archive such languages, or want to start. Less experience is okay. The upcoming session is on 18 May and needs registration here. We're also looking for volunteers to help with coordination and translation. We also invite you to use the archived audio and video materials from Nepal, India and Sri Lanka in Nepali Wikipedia articles and Wiktionary entries. Hello, I’m Danny from Wikimedia Deutschland’s Wikidata For Wikimedia Projects team.
We have been investigating and examining how Wikidata’s use in the Special:RecentChanges and Special:Watchlist pages can be made to be more useful, or less ‘noisy’ (fewer edits that have little value to the reader).
We are currently exploring to make a change in the volume and the type of Wikidata edits that appear in these pages, and we need your feedback to help us ensure this is a positive change for the Wikis and won’t disrupt your workflows.
Language links are also known as sitelinks or interlanguage links and describe when a Wikidata item is connected to a Wiki, adding it to the language dropdown tool for other connected Wikis.
The request for feedback is whether you support the removal of these language link edits from the Recent Changes and Watchlist feed, or would you oppose such a change and if so, why? Please share you thoughts on the dedicated metawiki Talk page.

Wikidata Sitelink changes in Recent Changes and Watchlist

Earlier last month, all Wikis were contacted for feedback on our proposal to remove language link changes, this change has already been deployed to Wikisource, Wikibooks, Wikivoyage, Wikiquote, Wikiversity and Wiktionary.
The same change is now being rolled out globally to all Wikipedias on October 13, 07:00 UTC. Editors will no longer see notifications after this time on their Recent Changes and Watchlist when a link to another language version of a page is added, removed, or changed in its Wikidata item (it does not affect language link notifications to the home wiki). There will then be a two-week monitoring period to observe if a reduction of high-volume but low-value notifications takes place, or if higher-value changes become easier to identify. Editors who rely on these notifications should be aware of the change and can share feedback or concerns on the Wikidata For Wikimedia Projects talk page.
Wikidata's own Recent Changes page is not affected as it serves as the repository for these changes.
