Wikimedia CEE Meeting 2026
Wikimedia CEE Meeting 2026 is the annual regional conference focused on Wikipedia, its sister projects, and the broader free knowledge movement, connecting contributors, affiliates, and researchers across Central and Eastern Europe to advance Wikipedia and free knowledge.
Wikimedia CEE Meeting 2026 has been held at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, between 18 and 20th of September 2026, and it was organized by Wikimedians of Romania and Moldova User Group in partnership with Făgăraș Research Institute. Babeș-Bolyai University was also directly involved in organizing the event through the Faculty of European Studies (which hosts the conference), the Office for Open Science, the Centre for Students with Disabilities, and the Doctoral School "History. "CEE Beyond the Crossroads" was the slogan for Wikimedia CEE Meeting 2026, and it signaled a pivotal shift for CEE communities. For years, the region had positioned itself at a historical, geopolitical and digital crossroads, navigating external conflicts, fragmented language communities, and rapid technological transitions.
By moving beyond this crossroads, Central and Eastern European communities were no longer just pausing to choose a direction; rather, they were actively forging a sustainable, proactive path forward. This slogan underscored a collective maturity, transitioning from a reactive survival mindset to one of intentional, long-term empowerment and regional self-reliance.
At its heart, CEE Meeting is about the people. Beyond the official sessions, participants had ample opportunities to connect with fellow Wikimedians during social events, informal chats, and collaborative spaces. For new attendees, our dedicated buddy system ensureed everyone is warmly welcomed and easily integrated into the regional community.
