Well, first off, a CheckUser will never publicly link a temporary account to a registered account, see also this recent statement from the Ombuds commission: Ombuds commission/2025/Temporary Accounts. That said, I'm not sure there's much value to be gained from merely knowing that someone's using a VPN or open proxy. Was the intent for a check perhaps aimed to check for potential sock puppetry abuse? I'd prefer to hear from h78c67c themselves though. XXBlackburnXx (talk) 11:55, 7 May 2025 (UTC)

The motivation of my initial request is Jackyming's history of socking on Chinese Wikipedia, right before they obtained an IPBE with no expiry there, which led to their currently active indef block. I have no basis to suspect that they have abused this right on Cantonese Wikipedia, but my concerns for the potential of abuse remain, which I hope this check would assuage, allowing me to more confidently grant this right for an extended period of time. Not done. Basically, whether or not to garnt an IPBE flag is at the discretion of local admins, unless there is a specific policy. It might be more useful to take a screenshot of the IP of the blocked OPs or VPNs and send it to them, rather than using the checkuser method. --Sotiale (talk) 13:32, 10 May 2025 (UTC)

There was an IP that was mentioned in the local discussion prior to account creation that demonstrated similar editing behavior. Reason(s): I'm placing this request here because I'd like to know if these users are some other user's sockpuppets. The first user tends to edit controversial topics (WWII in Croatia, place names in Croatia written in Cyrillic etc.) and often reverts other users' edits, but very rarely writes articles on their own or contributes in some other meaningful way. In other words, they are largely inactive on the project – except when there's a dispute over some controversial topic, then they show up immediately and turn the discussion into a battleground. 狐狸102 is the one mainly edited the page, but Sarahchen0 is just providing information by that single edit (as I cannot view the deleted one), the content they added didn't overlap, and Sarahchen0 didn't get involved on the edit war. Thus personally I can't say or not completely sure it's an obvious sock on this case. Hi, Stang. At least for Bhumeth, it is not possible to do this via loginwiki. If you really need to investigate, you should probably consider other appropriate checkuser methods. Since one account has no contributions on zhwiki and the other has no contributions on WD, you can ask the checkuser to claim that the contributions on zhwiki are the same on Wikidata (and the local checkuser will decide whether to accept this). --Sotiale (talk) 09:12, 25 May 2025 (UTC)

Reason(s): The three foremost accounts have been vandalizing my user pages with a common theme of "smell" and "weight" (e.g. user page, talk) for the past couple of days, alongside several IP users who followed the same pattern. Around the same time, the last account on the list (X-lirix11) began to engage with me to a rather extreme level ([2]), almost childishly asking questions reminiscent of a new user. They have since made almost no edits in the mainspace however, yet they have been able to spot and revert vandalisms on my user pages within 5 minutes (ex. 1, 2). I asked another sysop whether we could catch the aforementioned vandalisms with a filter, and the next day this user gave the sysop a reward with the note "I don't really know you, but you seem nice", despite the two never having engaged in any form. The user also complained about his IP being blocked at an undetermined time by the anti-vandalism filter when supposedly attempting to create an account for his sister on May 25 at 12:30, while the first vandalism, from a registered user, was made the same day at 19:30. It would be helpful to know whether these users are connected in any way from a technical perspective.
