Bring your content together by migrating Google Workspace files, metadata, and permissions to OneDrive and SharePoint in Microsoft 365.
How it works
For a standard Migration Manager workflow, a migration administrator follows six key steps:
- Step 1: Connect to Google. Sign in to your Google account and install Microsoft 365 migration app in Google Workspace Marketplace.
- Step 2: Scan and assess. Add Google Drives for scanning. Once the scans are complete, download Scan reports to investigate any possible issues that might block your migration.
- Step 3: Copy to the migrations list. After a Google Drive is scanned as Ready to migrate, you can add it to your migration list.
- Step 4: Review destination paths. Migration Manager automatically maps source paths to exactly matching destination paths. Review and modify each destination path as needed to ensure content is copied to the correct location.
- Step 5: Map identities. Map your domains, groups, and users in Google Drive to their Microsoft 365 counterparts. Also review permission settings; identity mapping alone doesn't enable file-level permission migration.
- Step 6: Migrate and monitor. After reviewing your migration setup, migrate your Google Drives and monitor the progress.

Migration Manager Lite
Migration Manager Lite is a simplified version of standard Migration Manager that helps small and medium business customers migrate content from Google Drive to Microsoft 365. It's enabled by default for tenants with fewer than 300 Microsoft 365 licenses when the migration project is created.
| Migration workflow | Standard Migration Manager | Migration Manager Lite |
|---|---|---|
| Step 1: Connect to Google | ✔ | ✔ |
| Step 2: Scan and assess | ✔ | ✖ |
| Step 3: Copy to Migrations list | ✔ | ✖ |
| Step 4: Review destination paths | ✔ | ✖ |
| Step 5: Map identities | ✔ | ✖ |
| Step 6: Migrate and Monitor | ✔ | ✔ |
In the Lite experience, an ✖ means that the activity isn't presented as a separate standard workflow stage. The guided setup still includes task selection, destination assignment, identity mapping, migration settings, and migration.
Get started
- Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center and select Setup > Migration resources.
- Under Self-service migration and import tools, select Explore migration & imports tools.
- Select Google Workspace to open the Google Workspace migration page.
Make sure you have:
Access to the destination: You must be one of the following roles in the Microsoft 365 tenant where you want to migrate your content:
- OneDrive/SharePoint admin
- A user granted the Microsoft 365 Migration Administrator role
- Global admin
Important
Microsoft recommends that you use roles with the fewest permissions. Using lower permissioned accounts helps improve security for your organization.
Access to the source: Use a Google Workspace administrator account that can install and authorize the Microsoft 365 Migration app and access the Google drives you plan to migrate.
Migration settings and destinations: Review destination requirements, permission settings, and file version settings before starting migration. File-level permissions and older file versions require explicit migration settings.
Once a migration project is created, you can start connecting to the source as described in the next step.
