Document what happens to Tailwind 3.x

Maybe I am blind, but I could not find information on what happens to Tailwind 3.x.

Due to Tailwind 4's CSS @property requirement it is effectively Baseline 2024—baseline widely available would be in 2027.

If one is working on a mildly conservative project one would have to wait for 2027 (or mid 2026) for the v4 upgrade.

So the question is:

Is v3.4.17 the last v3 release?—Or will there be be further 3.x releases?

New features are targeted at Tailwind CSS v4. Tailwind CSS v3 will still receive bug fixes as needed.

We released v3.4.18 a little over a month ago with a handful of fixes and there may be more releases in the future.

This issue asks for documentation … something along the lines of “3.x is in maintenance mode”.

It could be placed on the home page of 3.x or on its installation page.

Additionally, you could add something like “if you need to support older browsers you can use 3.x which will receive critical bug fixes until 202x” to the compatibility page of 4.x.

Basically, a visible commitment to support 3.x.
