Precise support?

[LiamDawe]

Any idea when you will have support for Ubuntu Precise with packages in the PPA? Since the first BETA is out soon i want to properly test.

[Lekensteyn]

Due to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/931397, optirun won't even work because the X server crashes immediately. I'll try to publish a change in which I enable AutoAddDevices. This will possibly sacrifice speed for a non-crashing server.

[LiamDawe]

Well reading that bug they plan to fix it for beta one so it should be as normal once that bug is fixed?

[Lekensteyn]

Yep, I've now just copied the packages from Oneiric. They should be visible soon in bumblebee/stable.

[rockorequin]

So setting AutoAddDevices to true in /etc/bumblebee/xorg.conf.nvidia stops the server crashing: how is it likely to affect speed and might there be any other bad side effects?

[Lekensteyn]

It could slow down startup, but I've not checked the real differences.

[hanynowsky]

setting AutoAddDevices to true in /etc/bumblebee/xorg.conf.nvidia resolved the issue. I still don't notice side effects.
And speed is similar to 11.10. PowerManagement seems not to be broken though.

[Lekensteyn]

Power Management was never broken in Precise.

FYI: the fix for the Xorg bug has been liften to Precise beta-2.

[sarvigalava]

AutoAddDevices "true" worked for me even better than ubuntu 11.10 was. Framerate of optirun glxspheres is bigger with 7-10%.

[Lekensteyn]

@sarvigalava Could it be that Precise has performance improvements, rather that the setting improved performance?

[LiamDawe]

Turn the setting off and try again to see the performance if possible?

[Lekensteyn]

The issue now is that Precise' Xorg is bugged and setting false makes the Xorg server crash. If you want to test it, install xorg-edgers/ppa

[LiamDawe]

Good point, maybe make a new ticket to test performance once the bug is fixed?

[sarvigalava]

If I turn off this setting optirun command fails. Maybe Precise has performance improvements but I can't test it.

[sarvigalava]

Today I've compiled/installed linux 3.3.0.rc6 on ubuntu 12.04 . Optirun command fails also with AutoAddDevices "true". (on linux 3.2.0.18 with AutoAddDevices "true" option bumblebee worked). I think It is a bug in kernel or two bugs : one in kernel, one in X.
The error is : [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: Could not load GPU driver
[ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.

[LiamDawe]

@sarvigalava read the above posts, it's a bug they know about;
