      Inherited from Old Galician-Portuguese olho, from Vulgar Latin oclum, from Latin oculum (“eye”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₃ekʷ- (“eye; to see”). Doublet of óculo, a borrowing. Compare Galician ollo, Spanish ojo, French œil and Italian occhio.
