[edit]Hi! Sorry about the head templates. I often forget all the necessary elements, copy them from somewhere else, and wind up carrying my mistakes forward. Thank you for pointing that out!

cafullon
[edit]Hi.
can you please move the page cafullon to cafulloj? It is used mostly in third-person singular, but let's stick to standard form.
thanks!
-Mondiad2 (talk) 03:47, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
- @Mondiad2 Hi, I have moved the page and this is one of the things that is still consistent and needs to be discussed again. Albanian dictionaries seem to prefer the third-person singular as the quote form for this kind of verb. I see the idea of using the first-person singular for consistency (as an infinitive) but if the 1. person is barely used...maybe @Catonif could also express opinion on this? Chihunglu83 (talk) 08:15, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hello @Mondiad2 and Chihung! Interesting matter, glad we're talking about it. On one hand I agree we shouldn't just blindly follow other dictionaries if we have good reasons to think their choice wasn't ideal, on the other hand I also believe we shouldn't blindly do things for consistency if that leads us to lemmatising at forms which sound silly or ungrammatical. It's up to the editor to find the right balance between these two factors, I trust the judgement of native speakers. As I'm not a native speaker myself, in practice I've almost always followed what the ASHSH dictionaries do, and I'd rather continue doing so, even if it hinders "consistency". It is true however that there are some verbs in which only some senses are third-person only (the ones that FGJSSH 1890 marks as vet. veta III), so in those cases it makes sense to lemmatise all senses under the first person, marking the third-person ones perhaps with a label, or even just leaving it unmarked and up to common sense, it's more of a semantic constraint than a grammatical one. For example I didn't mark senses 10 and 12 of lëshoj as third-only since that felt somewhat up to the brain of the reader to deduce from the sense. This would indeed leave us with a weird distribution, where you kind of have to know what the verb means already before being able to acess its lemma (of course the problem is not as big thanks to the searchbar's suggestions). The most ideal solution would of course be to lemmatise all verbs at the third person singular, like Mr. Leonard Newmark did, although this would be a rather bold approach and, to the best of my knowledge, unprecedented besides that work. I'd be happy if we all agree to do so but I understand why we wouldn't want to.
- TL;DR. Due to the matter being inherently complicated and oftentimes subjective, making up our own standards and our own criteria for when to lemmatise at third person and when at first feels too me a very tiring discussion for relatively little benefit, when there's much more important things to spend our precious time on, both within Wiktionary and outside of it. ;) My vote would be towards just following the ASHSH dictionaries for each case, so that we don't have to think of it too much ourselves, as in the end there is no objectively best solution. Of course, this is just my general advice, the ultimate choice on what to do and how to do something is up to the editor doing it depending on the situation.
- Oh, just one more thing, language is beautiful because it's variegated and unpredictable! :D Let's not chase after the wrong carrot just for the sake of it, lexicography is no exact science, it's one thing to be coherent and another to be bland. Catonif (talk) 14:54, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
Fjalor i Madh
[edit]Hello, I found out a new online Albanian dictionary has gone up, https://fjalori.online/, which has over 100,000 words. I think this is a much better opportunity now to create new entries. Would you be able to make it into a proper link like with the other dictionaries? Shqypëtari (talk) 22:07, 12 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @Shqypëtari, it's already there, sorry I forgot to ping you. see Template:R:sq:FMGSH:2026. This dictionary is much preferred, so this link is enough. Chihunglu83 (talk) 04:05, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
- So quick lol, thank you. I already found words on Wiki which I made but aren't in standard dictionaries. Shqypëtari (talk) 16:41, 13 January 2026 (UTC)
Please use the WT:Language treatment requests method for getting language categories deleted. For one thing, deleting the category itself accomplishes nothing: someone may see the redlink in WT:LOL and decide to re-create it. For another, the ISO doesn't have the final say on these: we create our own 6-digit non-ISO codes from deprecated or retired ISO codes all the time, in which case we generally just change the codes in the modules without doing anything to the categories themselves. Chances are that the same facts the ISO considered will lead us to the same conclusion- but you never know.
When you submit it to WT:LTR, the people there know which modules to edit, and routinely do so when a decision has been made. The deletion discussion and decision also gets archived. That page is very busy right now, but if it's such a no-brainer it won't take much of anyone's time.
I realize that you created the category page yourself and feel responsible for it, but like I said, the category page is only part of the picture. Thanks! Chuck Entz (talk) 05:07, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks for reminding. Like what you said, I will submit later. Chihunglu83 (talk) 05:14, 2 February 2026 (UTC)
please don't try to "help" create categories when a language move is happening
[edit]Hi, I notice you created Category:Miriwoong language right when I was about to rename all the Miriwung categories to Miriwoong. That blocked renaming Category:Miriwung language; renaming is preferable to creating a new category and deleting the old one because it maintains the history and gives a reason for the rename (as well as the fact that someone then has to manually delete the old category). In this case, I deleted your newly created category and then moved it by hand. I would recommend in the future if you see a language rename in progress, let it run its course rather than trying to help it along. Thanks! Benwing2 (talk) 02:38, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, sorry, I thought I forgot to recreate this category. Also, do we create empty lang. categories (especially those which extinct for some time and have little documentation?) I know that we normally don't allow empty cats right? Chihunglu83 (talk) 02:43, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- Generally there's no need to create empty categories for languages if there are no subcategories. But of course Category:Miriwoong language isn't empty; what language(s) were you thinking of? Benwing2 (talk) 03:02, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, I mean language category such as diff. Chihunglu83 (talk) 13:41, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

Cleanup of Proto-Austronesian entries
[edit]Hi, as you might've noticed, I've been working on lots of cleanup for the Proto-Austronesian entries, including as much content as possible from ACD and other sources (such as Li 2004 for the Atayalic languages). I've been thinking that once all those entries have been added, I plan to organise them consistently using the family tree at User:AmazingJus/austronesian (mostly based off Blust 1999 with a few changes based on Li 2008), and then have the spelling standardised according to {{R:ODAL}} (Blust has collected various orthographies for each entry, some even for the same language, which need vetting). What do you think of this plan and the current family tree?
Also, with nasty cases like *Cumay, with many raw links for dialects, should we include all dialectal nuances? Or should we simplify to reflect what's attested in {{R:ODAL}}? It's definitely worthwhile to keep things neat and consistent. — oi yeah nah mate amazingJUSSO ... [ɡəˈdæɪ̯]! 09:41, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @AmazingJus, first of all, thanks for the cleanup, it was really a big mess!
- Here is what I thought...
- We should def use a tree to standardize, so it would be consistent and more usable for readers.
{{R:ODAL}}should be changed to{{R:ODIL}}to reflect name change, linked pages must be cleaned up.- Also, keep in mind this database may not be complete (I've wrote them to inquire about the size of each languages, waiting for reply now), so we must be careful when cleaning up (additional publication should be used and properly sourced).
- As for *Cumay, I am not entirely sure. Just like Proto-Slavic, we should probably not include reflexes for every villages, I personally prefer not to include this, as it is difficult to verify every local forms, but ultimately we can adopt a comprising approach ?
- Btw, Where do you get Proto-Rukai from?
- Thank you once again for caring these beautiful languages 👏 Chihunglu83 (talk) 10:49, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- No worries at all! I just happened to stumble upon all those Proto-Austronesian entries (and their descendant Proto-Malayo-Polynesian entries) and boy was it quite a mess to sort through. Great you've followed up with them - I'm curious to hear what resources they recommend for each language. For those village lects, I agree we should simplify drastically, perhaps just including prominent variations on the same line using
qq:dialectalor the locale name.

Some questions about Albanian declensions
[edit]Hiiii !!
I'm Kali, a patroller/contributor on frwiktionary. I recently wrote a script for my bot, RenardBot, to conjugate -oj verbs in albanian. No problem here, works great :)
I'm coming regarding a discrepancy i found between the two wikis. Check vjeshtë and fr:vjeshtë, and note the differences in the definite plural forms for dative / ablative. Here, they end in -ave. On frwiktionary, they end in -avet.
Which one is correct? Albanian is way less developed over on frwiktionary, so im more inclined to believe the table on enwiktionary to be correct, but other resources make me more inclined to believe the -avet form is correct.
I saw your name on almost every Albanian entry so I thought i'd ask, sorry if you're not the person most fit to answer this! CKali (talk) 14:11, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hello, @CKali, thanks for appreciation. As far as I know, the newest grammar allows only -ave. My Old communist grammar book kept -avet as a variant. @Mondiad2 We shouldn't include -avet as well in the table, right? Chihunglu83 (talk) 14:18, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for your quick reply! I'm trying to look for sources to see if the -t variant is *archaic* or just a less common variant. If you do clarify the table, I'll probably take inspiration from it :p
- I also saw on Wikipedia that there's a variant to singular dative/ablative definite forms that has an ë after the final s, should they be included as well? CKali (talk) 14:24, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hi.
- -ave. As far as I remember, I never saw -avet in textbooks. Sounds like an older form before 1972 when the orthography was unified.Mondiad2 (talk) 23:54, 19 March 2026 (UTC)
- -së is the full form used when the noun itself is the target of the declension in the dative, genitive, or ablative cases. For example, the dative/ablative definite singular of vjeshtë is vjeshtës or vjeshtësë depending on the specific grammatical tradition, but -së is the widely recognized standard for these cases in feminine nouns. The form ending in just -s often appears when the noun is followed by an adjective or in specific possessive constructions where a linking particle (clitic) is involved. Yoghijkij (talk) 00:04, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
- Should we indicate both -s and -së then? I don't know what to put in the definition for these entries. It's not a variant surely. They don't have names, do they?
- I'll already update the pages and templates on frwiktionary and update my bot. Thank you so much for your help!! CKali (talk) 08:57, 20 March 2026 (UTC)
- -së is the ending used on nouns that end in a stressed vowel (usually -i) such as dashurisë, Shqipërisë etc.
- I've never heard of such a thing as vjeshtësë, even in the oldest grammars I know, but there seems to be number of hit Tokoss78 (talk) 20:12, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
حماس and descendant words
[edit]My apologies, but may I know if there a problem with those removed words at the حماس descendants section?
I added them there because they're borrowings from Arabic. Or could it be that they were instead borrowed from English or another language?
PulauKakatua19 (talk) 10:39, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, this is my mistake, I already undid, the rollback/thank option on Wiktionary is too close , so I sometimes misclicked. Chihunglu83 (talk) 10:42, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
- No problem. Thank you for clarifying!

Lemma changes
[edit]Hello, how've you been?
Is there a way that I could change the title of an entry? There is an Albanian Ajkuna, which is in the definite form, and I wanted to know if it could be changed to Ajkunë instead. Shqypëtari (talk) 13:32, 22 May 2026 (UTC)
- Hi, my Albanian friend Shqypëtari. There was a discussion about this before. See Wiktionary:Albanian entry guidelines#Definiteness of given names, we allow female given names ending in -a, so there is no need to change this entry. If you are against the rule, feel free to raise the issue in BP. Chihunglu83 (talk) 05:39, 23 May 2026 (UTC)

Balaj family name origin
[edit]Please stop changing my edit as it is more accurate that the false information you are giving Disisit23 (talk) 05:36, 9 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Disisit23 Let me kindly remind you: If you think your etymology is more correct, or the old one is disputed, you can either use etystub template or use rfv-sense template for verification. You delete sourced info, and did not provide any source, you did not format and just claimed it from bălai. If this is the case, why can't you source it? You are the same user as The est coast and if you really want to edit, please include your information here, otherwise editor, if not me, would still revert it, thanks! Balaj family name origin
[edit]Please click on this link and read this article. It’s shows the Romanian origin of the last name can you please add it in I’m sport if I upset you. Here is the link: https://namecensus.com/last-names/balaj-surname-popularity/ Disisit23 (talk) 06:08, 9 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Disisit23 You need to follow wiktionary process when verifying etymology. We don't use unreliable website for claiming it's not derived from Hungarian. I know this may be sensitive for you and you could be right, but please do not wipe out sourced etymology out of process, as this may be considered a vandalism. thanks! I know this last name has multiple European origins Disisit23 (talk) 06:18, 9 August 2026 (UTC)
Arnoj etymology
[edit]The reason of the change was because the source is unreliable.Orel frequently linked Albanian words to foreign cognates based entirely on "homophone hunting" while ignoring massive, unrealistic leaps in meaning. It is widely considered outdated, highly speculative, and unreliable by modern Indo-European linguists. People that worked based on his work repeated same mistakes. Bensonsthe4th (talk) 13:39, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Bensonsthe4th Hi, it is okay to refute Orel's etymology, but all of your edits until now are just deleting sourced info. Please format your argument and add relevant literature, do not just leave the reference section empty thanks! Chihunglu83 (talk) 13:51, 16 August 2026 (UTC)
I added the Serbo-Croatian sense because it was listed on Appendix:Serbo-Croatian_Swadesh_list/Pučišća_dialect. That list has no citations, though. Looking more closely, that list was created by Metmetmet333 (talk • contribs), and those were the only edits that user ever made, which is a little suspicious.
