Eligibility

[edit]

Vatican City at the 2022 Mediterranean Games passed a bit late... Would it be eligible for the next round? Arconning (talk) 12:50, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Is someone going to reset the scores or something? Bgsu98 (Talk) 13:20, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I was wondering about that yesterday, though I haven't heard anything from the judges yet for doing that. Tenshi! (Talk page) 13:29, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Tenshi Hinanawi, thanks for checking in. I'm still reviewing the nominations (got home a bit late last night) but will let you know when I'm done, so the bot can reset the nominations.
@Arconning, yes, you can claim it for the next round. – Epicgenius (talk) 14:17, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Scores have been checked now, and everything looks good. @Tenshi Hinanawi, could you please run the bot to clear all the contestants' submission pages? Thanks in advance. – Epicgenius (talk) 14:57, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Are we all just reset to zero? Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:02, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Bgsu98, the round points (i.e. what you can directly earn from submissions) will be reset to zero. I've created a new table of tournament points; these will persist from round to round. – Epicgenius (talk) 15:03, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I see now; that makes sense. I'm going to own this round, too. 😉 Bgsu98 (Talk) 15:07, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
We'll see about that BeanieFan11 (talk) 21:55, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Epicgenius: Did you want to remove those editors from the table who have been disqualified? Bgsu98 (Talk) 21:12, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Bgsu98 I have removed the disqualified users, and fixed the table header. Thanks for bringing it up. On a purely tangential note, I'm very lazy. Technically the answer to that question would be "no, I don't; I really want to go to a museum instead". – Epicgenius (talk) 21:46, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Then go to the museum! Life’s too short to pass up hobbies of personal interest. Bgsu98 (Talk) 21:48, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
 Done Tenshi! (Talk page) 15:30, 27 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Tenshi Hinanawi, just FYI, the second round has just ended but the judges haven't looked at all the submissions yet. We'll let you know when we're finished; it might not be done until tomorrow, and I forgot to do the newsletter earlier. Thanks for maintaining the bot. – Epicgenius (talk) 01:24, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Tenshi Hinanawi, thanks again for the assistance. I've sent out the newsletter. It would be great if you can run the bot to clear contestants' submission pages, but if you don't have time to do it, please let me know. – Epicgenius (talk) 15:04, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's done again. Tenshi! (Talk page) 15:20, 29 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Tenshi Hinanawi, I've sent the newsletter for round 3. Could you please run the bot again? Thanks in advance. – Epicgenius (talk) 13:55, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Done. I'll note that I've been working on making this a web trigger so that the judges can tell the bot to clear the pages. Tenshi! (Talk page) 16:04, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I appreciate your time and effort, and a web trigger would definitely be appreciated so we can do it ourselves when necessary. – Epicgenius (talk) 16:37, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Tenshi, I also sent a private message about this, but using the web trigger (on my main account) doesn't seem to have activated the bot yet. Is there a delay in the web trigger? Accessedgrant (Epicgenius mobile alt) (talk) 03:16, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Noting here the bot broke badly, and it'll be a bit till its fixed, at worst by the end of tomorrow. Tenshi! (Talk page) 11:24, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Web trigger and the bot is fixed. Tenshi! (Talk page) 15:29, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Quick note

[edit]

@Vanderwaalforces, @Vestrian24Bio, @Bgsu98: I'm currently finalizing the scores for Round 3. These were submitted after Round 3 ended:

Please claim your respective submissions in Round 4. – Epicgenius (talk) 13:08, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Very fine by me! Well done. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 13:10, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Fine with me 👍. Vestrian24Bio 16:28, 29 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Epicgenius: Wikipedia:WikiCup/History/2026 is still saying Round 3.. needs to be updated I guess? Vestrian24Bio 10:59, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Vestrian24Bio Whoops. I have fixed it, it is definitely Round 4 now. – Epicgenius (talk) 13:51, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Flag change request

[edit]

Hi! Could someone change my flag from ({{Flagicon image|ICC logo.png|link=International cricket|border=}}) to ({{Flagicon image|ICC logo (2026).svg|link=International cricket|border=|size=40px}}). Thanks! Vestrian24Bio 06:45, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Vestrian24Bio,  Done. – Epicgenius (talk) 14:16, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

On how to mark deceased contestants

[edit]

One of our contestants, Gobonobo, has sadly passed away during the competition. He is currently marked as "disqualified", and I don't think this is a good way to mark this - marking a contestant as "disqualified" would seem to imply they have cheated or erred in some way. We do have a precedent for how to handle this in competition - Vami IV passed away during the 2024 Wikicup, and was left on the leaderboard same as any other contestant. I don't know if we need an formal rule on this, but I feel in general that would be a more sensitive way to handle this sort of thing in the future. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 16:20, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Fair point. I marked Gobonobo in red because that is what we typically do for blocked or locked users, but given the precedent of Vami_IV, I've marked Gobonobo in green again. – Epicgenius (talk) 16:46, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
You could use the background color for users who withdraw. Bgsu98 (Talk) 17:25, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I guess we could always use grey or a different colour, but at the same time, is it appropriate to draw attention to contestants who have passed away on the main scoreboard by highlighting it? I do approve of the principle though. The C of E God Save the King! (talk) 08:24, 31 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Past Rounds

[edit]

can I get points for the WikiCup from round 4 right now? I didn't realize I could enter the WikiCup and I have done lots of GAs and GANR in the past. Dragonhawk12 (talk) (Guestbook) (Wikicats) 04:33, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Dragonhawk12, unfortunately no. The scores for round 4 have been calculated already, and we cannot retroactively change scores for a previous round. You can claim them in round 5 if they are eligible (please see the scoring rules). – Epicgenius (talk) 13:33, 2 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
