serial mis-licensing

[edit]

Brian.S.W (talk · contribs) has uploaded hundreds of photos of US state and territorial license plates, incorrectly tagging each and every single one of them as {{PD-USGov}}. To avoid having to tag hundreds of individual files, or even counting them for copy & paste here at FFD, is there a faster/better process? Cheers, — Fourthords | =Λ= | 15:38, 26 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

This was years ago, just fix the issue and move on Brian.S.W (talk) 15:45, 26 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Removed PD-USGov tags from license plate uploads, except DC because I wasn't sure if that counted. SarekOfVulcan (talk) 16:22, 26 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oh wow, that was fast! Thanks! Now w/o a license tag, will they wind up being automatically tagged with {{nld}} or similar? — Fourthords | =Λ= | 01:43, 27 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Long-lasting noms lacking replies the new norm anymore?

[edit]

As I have seen, nominations lacking replies lasted longer than seven days anymore, e.g. this one closed as "soft delete" a non-free file one month after listing. Well, I requested a closure at WP:CR. Back to the main issue, I just can't help wonder why listed files weren't deleted after at least seven days but rather longer than it should. Maybe recalling Fastily and Fastily's resignation contributed to this, but then that's implicitly assuming bad faith in other admins, and I don't want to go down that road. Huge backlog like CFD

[edit]

Other than possible insufficient admin interests in this venue, listings of complicated matters, unwillingness of admins to enforce the seven-day deletion default the way Fastily had done (before Fastily's recall), why else have there been backlogs of FFD listings long overdue for closure or something like that? Can't nominate a file for deletion

[edit]

I believe File:IntroductionToHolography1972.ogv should be deleted. It's a straightforward copyright violation; the tag claims the copyright wasn't renewed, but as a work from 1972 with a valid notice, it wouldn't need renewal. I tried to follow the project instructions to nominate it for deletion, but I can't edit the file page to place the deletion notice (which also seems to preclude me from using Twinkle). What should I do? Moonreach (talk) 19:35, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

The image is uploaded at Commons, unfortunately: c:File:IntroductionToHolography1972.ogv. Good luck figuring out the process of c:COM:Deletion requests. George Ho (talk) 20:05, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Moonreach The file is hosted on commons, not here. Basically, there is a big wiki that just contains files, and almost all of the files you see on the English Wikipedia are from this big commons wiki of files.
You'll have to follow the rules of commons, which, luckily for you, are much simpler. Just go to commons:File:IntroductionToHolography1972.ogv (notice the "commons:" part at the beginning) and then click the "Nominate for deletion" link in the Tools sidebar on the right of the page. At least that was straightforward. Thanks for the instructions. Moonreach (talk) 20:24, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Moonreach No worries! I want to edit the page to help editors that find themselves in the same situation as you. Where would you suggest I add a notice or a bolded note telling the user that the file is probably on commons? FaviFake (talk) 20:29, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's a good idea. I'd suggest somewhere in the section right under "nominate a file". You could also go with the "What not to nominate here" section, but that's already rather long and I worry it would get lost. I'd likely have missed it anyway if it was there, even though I did skim the section before I started. Moonreach (talk) 20:32, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Moonreach Done! What do you think? Would it have caught your attention at the right time? FaviFake (talk) 20:48, 3 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I think that's perfect. Thanks! Moonreach (talk) 17:47, 4 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
