Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
Welcome to Requested moves/Technical requests
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request a technical move below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an experienced editor to approve of your new article or proposed rename, you are in the wrong place.
- Make sure you really need technical assistance before making a request here. Because you are autoconfirmed, you can move most pages yourself. Even if the target page exists, you can sometimes move the page normally if the target is a redirect back to the source page and has 1 revision.
- If this is your first article and you want your draft article moved to the mainspace, please use the submission wizard to submit your draft or user sandbox page for review at Articles for creation instead of listing it here.
- If you need help determining whether it's okay to move the page to a different title, then please follow the instructions at the top of Wikipedia:Requested moves.
To list a technical request: the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection or click the big blue button and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Do not edit the article's talk page, just click the button below.
To request a reversion of a recent undiscussed move: Review the guidelines at WP:RMUM of whether a reversion of an undiscussed move qualifies as uncontroversial and if so, the Requests to revert undiscussed moves subsection or click the big blue button and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
Note that in some cases, clerks, such as administrators or page movers may determine that your request for a reversion does not pass the criteria and may move the request to the contested section or open a formal requested move discussion for potentially controversial moves on your behalf.
- If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page. A bot will automatically remove contested requests after 72 hours of inactivity.
If your request requires an administrator. Usually, do so if the page has been fully protected or move protected (see this guide to which moves need administrators).

- I'm not completely sure we even need the DAB page, I think it falls squarely into WP:SMALLDIFFERENCES with the "s" as a difference. But I'd like to hear some more opinions first. Best, squawk7700 (talk) 21:38, 9 October 2026 (UTC)

- Estella Marie Thompson → Estella Thompson (currently a redirect back to Estella Marie Thompson) (move · discuss) – More concise title, no ambiguity, sources do not always refer to subject using full name. ~Sangdeboeuf (talk) 16:24, 9 October 2026 (UTC)
- Comment: If we base the article title on her given name, this request may be valid. But it appears to me that both the two-word and three-word versions of her name are used in social media and other minor media sources, so both may qualify as her given name. Conversely, those recent activities are not particularly notable. and almost all of her notability is under her infamous stage name Divine Brown. So there may be a case to use that for the article title, per WP:PSEUDONYM. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 13:12, 10 October 2026 (UTC)
- I'm OK with that option as well. ~Sangdeboeuf (talk) 16:11, 10 October 2026 (UTC)
- Checking the sources on the page seems to confirm "Divine Brown", so this might be just enough for a bold move, but we also have Divine Brown already, so we'd probably need to resolve that. I can see an argument for primary topic by pageviews (usually not my preference, but there's a pretty big difference: ) but then we may need an RM. ASUKITE 16:41, 11 October 2026 (UTC)
- Divine Brown (sex worker) seems to have been the original page name. I'd support a move back to that title, which avoids any primary topic concerns and matches WP:PSEUDONYM. ~Sangdeboeuf (talk) 17:04, 11 October 2026 (UTC)

- Echiura → Spoon worm (currently a redirect back to Echiura) (move · discuss) – A 2020 revision of echiurans discarded the taxon Echiura, instead using the name Thalassematidae to encompass the entire group. This has been unchallenged in the literature since. As 'echiuran' and 'spoon worm' are both used as common names for the group, moving the page to one of those (ideally the latter to prevent confusion) would be better than moving it to Thalassematidae. - I presume Gò Công (disambiguation) is to be moved over the base title in this case. ASUKITE 17:47, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
- No! Vietic2 (talk) 08:06, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
- I suppose I find WP:VIETPLACE a bit confusing as it suggesting we override the default behavior of only using a parenthetical in the event of ambiguity, with the expectation that the primary topic or disambiguation page or primary redirect goes over the base title (this applies to a few other reqs here also). In that case, if adding a (parenthetical) to each of these titles, we need to decide what goes at the base (a redirect to the disambiguated title would be WP:MISPLACED) ASUKITE 13:16, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
- The main topic is Gò Công - a ward in Đồng Tháp province, not an former provincial city in the former Tiền Giang province. Vietic2 (talk) 15:22, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
- That makes sense then, thanks! I won't object to these, but since there will likely be links that need fixing, I'll just leave these up for now as I am low on time. ASUKITE 15:27, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
- Doesn't that make it a primary topic grab, which wouldn't be uncontroversial? Tenshi! (Talk page) 12:38, 7 October 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, I suppose that is correct, not sure why that didn't occur to me yesterday, I'll move these down. ASUKITE 18:29, 7 October 2026 (UTC)
- The main topic right now is Gò Công ward itself, not Gò Công provincial city, so there's no reason to avoid arguing and comply with Wikipedia:VIETPLACE's regulations. Vietic2 (talk) 02:41, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
- That's irrelevant to the point that primary topic grabs are not uncontroversial. RM/TR cannot perform moves which are not uncontroversial without an RM, please use WP:RMPM. Tenshi! (Talk page) 15:02, 8 October 2026 (UTC)

- This may need some time to shake out. According to these sources: , the President has split the leadership position into two jobs, with the job title "Minister of Finance" being new. However, the ministry's official government page: is still using the older, longer name. I recommend letting this sit for a while until the government officially states whether the ministry itself has a new name. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:50, 9 October 2026 (UTC)
- Well you don’t know how Zimbabwe works then… That website will be like that for ages until someone maybe decides to change it (maybe never). But thank you for further proving my point that they are two distinct ministries now with their own Ministers, by linking to further articles that make it clear that His Excellency has “split” the one ministry into two separate ones. I note once again, the blatant bias on Wikipedia against African articles when things like this arise. The British Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade seems to have been all too happy to be renamed when that change was made by Burnham. When an African president does something similar - no, no. We must argue about it. Mangwanani (talk) 15:52, 9 October 2026 (UTC)
- There is no bias in asking for evidence, and this is not an argument unless you choose to make it one. We would ask the exact same questions about the British ministry the day after its name changed. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 16:12, 9 October 2026 (UTC)
- You have seen evidence from the Presidential Communications Office itself, as well as from the State-owned media, which you yourself linked to. I'm not sure how much higher the bar can get in terms of providing evidence. Then there is the internal logic of the matter. A Minister heads a Ministry. In Zimbabwean convention, if someone is given a particular role within a ministry, they are made Deputy Minister with responsibilities for xxx, as we see within the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works. So I am not the one making an argument. I have presented all the facts - it is others who are arguing against those self same facts. Mangwanani (talk) 16:34, 9 October 2026 (UTC)
- Go back a few steps and you will notice that my only recommendation was to let things settle for a few days. I have stated no opposition to the requested move, nor am I arguing. Buy why let that stop you? ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 13:05, 10 October 2026 (UTC)
- Well we're two days later and the same state-owned press has now reported here that "Dr Tagwirei was appointed to lead the newly established Ministry of Economic Development and Investment Promotion, which is tasked with driving economic growth and attracting investment". It's almost as if some of us know how our countries work. Mangwanani (talk) 16:05, 10 October 2026 (UTC)

- The June 2026 move requests were procedurally closed because multiple proposed destination titles contained articles. Those articles have since been moved, and the destinations now redirect to the respective provinces. Thus, the procedural issue identified in that discussion appears to have been resolved. I understand these titles have been discussed, but the June request did not establish consensus against the proposed moves. QueenPeppers (talk) 00:52, 10 October 2026 (UTC)

- Democratic Party (South Korea, 2015) → Democratic Party of Korea (currently a redirect instead to Minjudang) (move · discuss) – The document should be renamed to 'Democratic Party of Korea' to match the official name of the political party, as including the country and year in parentheses for a currently existing party feels unnecessary. Whatback11 (talk) 06:55, 10 October 2026 (UTC)
- The reason for the current title is that we also have articles for Democratic Party (South Korea, 2000), Democratic Party (South Korea, 2008), Democratic Party (South Korea, 2013). So the proposed move may not be the best way to go, though I concur that this one from 2015 is called "Democratic Party of Korea" (in translation) which appears to be unique among the others. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 13:17, 10 October 2026 (UTC)
