Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection). After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to remove obvious vandalism.
Request addition of protection to a page, or increasing the current protection level
Request removal of protection from a page, or reducing the current protection level
Request a specific edit be made to a protected page
Request the non-urgent protection of multiple pages that do not require immediate administrator attention

Reason: There is a long-term vandal who continually removes the same content from pages related to the Avatar films. We have blocked multiple of his accounts (and will continue to do so) but he keeps creating new accounts. We finally have pending changes protection at Stephen E. Rivkin, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and Avatar: The Way of Water, and it would be great if we could get that same protection on this page. Thank you! OrdinaryOtter (talk) 11:24, 10 October 2026 (UTC)

- Nothing good comes from changing any semi-protected page to go with pending changes. That's basically asking for more trouble to open up. You're better off increasing to extended-confirmed protection, which is far more effective against reducing vandalism and sock activity. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 04:03, 12 October 2026 (UTC)
- @SNUGGUMS Couldn't agree more. Unprotection was recently tried on the Las Vegas page on the grounds of "it's been a long time", and it only took a few hours for protection to be reinstated if that says anything. Giovanni Potage (talk) 06:33, 12 October 2026 (UTC)

- We have often waited for the user, when they are capable of doing so, to at least acquiesce in third-party protection requests to their talk pages; sometimes they prefer to have them open as honeypots. - +1 Normally, I wouldn't activate for permanently locking an article that has only existed for a short period of time. However, political parties with any degree of political relevancy almost always end-up being perennial trolling magnets, perhaps due to the contentious nature of politics itself.
