Thank you for Assassination of William McKinley, introduced (in 2012): "I hope I have captured a little bit of 1901 in addition to covering the assassination, a world where you could have a fair with a Triumphal Bridge, and a straight face. A spoiler: someone dies (two, in fact). - I brought Antonino Fogliani on the same page. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:04, 6 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Nice to see McKinley on the main page! - I still have this FAC open, - would you have time to look at it? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:45, 14 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

If you're still short tomorrow I will give it a review. Wehwalt (talk) 00:58, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm short of a reviewer who has done it before ;) - I have image review, source review, and five reviews, but the last one can't support unless I explain in the lead what a church cantata is, and I won't clutter the text (of several hundred articles) like that. I asked him if he'd explain song, but no answer yet. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:33, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
OK, I'll do it. Wehwalt (talk) 12:56, 15 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, helped! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:09, 20 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
... and it is scheduled! - Bach composed a cantata for today's feast, performed 300 years ago. This time the main page has it on the right date. I nominated it for GA ;) - Also waiting for a review: Maureen Jones (on WP:ITNN), - someone said the article isn't good enough for the main page. We could change that! Already arrived there: Bryan Kelly and his fun Magnificat. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:59, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

U.S. Coins and currency

[edit]

Happy anniversary! I've added a longish comment to that coin and currency CfD, had pinged you on it but I've made edits to the comment so that negates a ping, if you have a couple minutes. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:30, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I already posted to it. Wehwalt (talk) 16:20, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Wehwalt,

I saw that today’s featured article was not semi protected, can you do that?

Thanks,

Re. TFA

[edit]

Hi. I hope you're doing well. I had listed Fashion of Catherine, Princess of Wales at the TFA requests page in August.

Could you please assist me as to when it will be scheduled? Thanks. MSincccc (talk) 13:23, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

(watching:) I don't see it on WP:TFAR. The template needs to be transcluded, either on a date or unspecific, and the article to be listed in the table. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:39, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for that, @Gerda Arendt. I hope I have done it correctly here? Best, MSincccc (talk) 14:29, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Well, I forgot that we talk about January 2027. Strictly, requests are accepted only a month in advance, which would be 23 Dec as of today (with scheduling for November on its way). I'd comment it out there, and make a note of the date in WP:TFARP. When formally requested, it should also go into the table for an overview. The actual scheduling for January will probably happen in late November. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:45, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Gerda Arendt I've undone my revision at WP:TFAR and made an addition at WP:TFAP. Thanks again, MSincccc (talk) 15:08, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Administrators' newsletter – October 2026

[edit]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2026).

Administrator changes

Oversight changes

removed

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, the good article criteria have been amended to add accessibility requirements.
  • Following an RfC, late signatures added to administrator recall petitions after 720 hours from opening are reverted or struck and do not count towards the threshold, even if the petition has not yet been formally closed.
  • The post-May 2026 administrator elections RfCs concluded with consensus for election monitors to curate blatantly inappropriate questions after posting, and to remove or merge true duplicates, clearly marking merged questions. Calls for candidates will include advisory guidance that users with less than one year’s experience or 5,000 edits generally lack a realistic chance of success.

Technical news

  • Interface administrators no longer need to specify the ResourceLoader option in the definitions for gadgets on MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition as gadgets are always loaded through ResourceLoader. (T298199)
  • The list=abusefilters API module now supports formatversion=2 and includes breaking changes to its responses. In particular, the actions property is now a JSON array rather than a string, regardless of the format version. Maintainers of user scripts and other code using this module should check compatibility and update their code as needed. (T435828)

Arbitration

Obituaries

  • Doug Weller passed away on 30 September 2026. Doug Weller began editing Wikipedia in 2006 and became an administrator in 2008, making nearly 275,000 edits over two decades. He served on the Arbitration Committee from 2015 through 2018 and was also a longtime CheckUser and Oversighter.

October music

Women: today Irene Butter (don't miss the short video in her story and article), yesterday Tabea Zimmermann for her 60th (I was in the audience for that concert in 2023, long video), and some day Ileana Cotrubaș again, whose article became GA today. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:11, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

TFA Fridtjof Nansen - Brian mentioned you in in 2010: "Not just a polar saga: Nansen was one of the most significant European figures of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Sportsman, scientist, explorer, diplomat, statesman, Nobel laureate – a giant of his times, a story well worth the telling. I have had some useful assistance with the article from a couple of Norwegian editors, Ruhrfisch has provided two lovely maps, Ealdgyth has photographed Fram, Elcobbola has checked out the pics. Others have given generous help at the peer review, so all in all this is a pretty good team effort, and I'm proud to be the nominator." In memory of that teamwork and dedication --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:50, 10 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

I was glad I was able to meet him the one time.--Wehwalt (talk) 00:01, 11 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
