Sock accounts?
[edit]Hello Srnec, on the Second battle of Dongola page, the editors @swiss4565 and @swiss689 share a similar edit style and name. Swiss689's argument on the talk page closely matches that of the other account here. Is it possible one editor has created multiple accounts and violated the policy against sockpuppetry? I remember that reviewing is not your favourite activity on these pages, but I would be very grateful if you could share your thoughts on the article during its peer review. Of course, I quite understand if you would rather devote your time to less irksome and perhaps more fruitful pursuits. Borsoka (talk) 02:10, 25 August 2026 (UTC)

DYK for History of Mar Yahballaha and Rabban Sauma
[edit]On 25 August 2026, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article History of Mar Yahballaha and Rabban Sauma, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a 14th-century biography (page pictured) retells the travels of a monk who was possibly "the first traveller from China to the Atlantic"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/History of Mar Yahballaha and Rabban Sauma. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (History of Mar Yahballaha and Rabban Sauma), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to nominate it.

Nomination for WikiProject Military history coordinators is now open!
[edit]Nominations for the upcoming Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history coordinator election have opened. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting will commence on 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the current coord team. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:25, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
Greetings Srnec. Since I note that you've also edited the page Desiderius, my recent addition to the lede could likely stand a once over...particularly given my penchant for verbosity and the likelihood I am being "too" academic. If you have the time, your assistance in making the lede both more encyclopedic in tone and concise would be most appreciated. Obenritter (talk) 22:31, 5 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Obenritter: I went over and made some edits. I see you like semicolons. Don't worry; I left one or two.The last sentence, I think, needs work. Why did you write "the last Lombard ruler to exercise regional kingship" rather than just "the last Lombard king"? Probably should devote a sentence to the founding of San Salvatore. In both Manzoni and Dante his portrayal is negative, so might be best to say that he is usually remembered or imagined as a failure of kingship. Or something. Srnec (talk) 05:13, 6 September 2026 (UTC)
- Fair observation on the semicolons — old habits. Thanks for having a look; much appreciated as always.
- On "last Lombard king" vs. "last ... to exercise regional kingship" — I phrased it that way because Arechis II (Desiderius's own son-in-law) held onto Benevento after 774 and styled himself princeps rather than rex, so a form of Lombard rule actually persisted in the south for another three centuries, just not as a kingdom in the formal sense. I wanted to leave room for that distinction without cluttering the lede with a caveat clause. That said, if "last Lombard king" reads cleaner and the Benevento nuance is better handled in the body (or an efn), I'm happy to simplify — your call.
- Agreed on the other two points. I've tweaked it regarding San Salvatore's founding and reframed the Manzoni/Dante material along the lines you suggested — "remembered/imagined as a failure of kingship" is a real improvement over the flat "still has significance" I had. Thanks again. --Obenritter (talk) 15:24, 6 September 2026 (UTC)
