This does not belong in the "Libertarian" Catagory
[edit]A large part of the Libertarian Ideology is personal property rights, which squatting does not respect.

- Whilst I would agree that squatting is not part of the make-up of modern right-wing libertarianism, historical left-wing libertarianism certainly disputed property rights, as discussed in our own article on libertarianism Mujinga (talk) 11:51, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

Squatting → Squatting (crime) – There is no primary topic with regards to squatting position or squat (exercise). All get very similar pageviews and have equal amounts of longterm significance. Squatting should redirect to squat. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 14:13, 3 October 2026 (UTC)

- While I would support a move away from the current title, I'm not sure "crime" is the best disambiguator. Maybe property? Jessintime (talk) 15:08, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- Is there a form of non-criminal squatting? Regardless of one's views on its morality, the word squatting implies illegality. That's why I figure crime would be appropriate. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 15:18, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, there is. Squatting is occupying without permission, but permission is not always required by law, and non-criminal aspects of the phenomenon are discussed in the article. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:03, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- I see some examples of people inaccurately called squatters despite technically having permission, but it seems to be a small exception to the rule. Overall, a squatter can be evicted at any time because they are trespassing on private property. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 16:30, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- That is simply not true. I suggest studying the subject more closely. Squatting is not always considered a crime, and the eviction of squatters can be very difficult in some places, and squatting can lead to recognition of both a legal right to remain and a recognition of legal ownership. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:39, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- You're free to suggest alternate names, I would personally rather it be moved to any disambiguation than remain here. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 17:19, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- Following Jessintime's initial suggestion, perhaps Squatting (property) or Squatting (property rights) or Squatting (occupancy) or or Squatting (property occupancy). — BarrelProof (talk) 17:28, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- My second choice would personally be squatting (trespassing), followed by squatting (housing term). Squatting (property) would not be very good IMO, because it could be confused for referring to a singular property. (property law) is a possibility as well. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 17:37, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- I had thought about "(property law)", but that doesn't capture all of what the article covers. It is not just about the law. It also discusses prevalence, political and social movements, slums, informal settlements, etc. — BarrelProof (talk) 18:21, 3 October 2026 (UTC)

- Agree. Not all squatting is criminal. There are literally laws that account for squatting in a non-criminal way. YannLK (talk) 20:11, 3 October 2026 (UTC)

- Oppose: I don't see the need to change anything - Squatting has a monthly average this year of 16,856 views this year; Squatting position has a monthly average of 8,363 views this year; Squat (exercise) has a monthly average of 10,316 views this year. Therefore the current situation is correct. Mujinga (talk) 17:53, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- When the views for squatting position and exercise are combined, they exceed those of this article. I think you have just demonstrated why this shouldn't be primary, since the criteria for that is "vastly more than all other articles' pageviews combined"... ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 17:56, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- Comment Not sure about the inclusion of squat (exercise) here. Maybe an WP:ENGVAR thing, but performing this exercise is known as "doing squats", not "squatting". 162 etc. (talk) 17:19, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
- "Squatting helps burn calories both during and after exercise. One study found that squats burn about 35 calories per minute, aiding in weight management and fat loss. “Squatting also stimulates the release of hormones, like testosterone and somatotropin,” Dr. Kampert says, “which are vital for muscle growth, metabolism and overall health.”" ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 18:07, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
- Weak support no primary topic but oppose target as squatting isn't always a crime as it is still a civil thing in England and Wales apart from residential buildings. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:28, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
