EXCLUSIVE: Hulu has opted not to proceed with Marvel’s Ghost Rider, its planned live-action series starring Gabriel Luna, I have learned.
Hulu in May picked up two new live-action series from Disney sibling Marvel Television, Ghost Rider and Helstrom, to premiere in 2020. While Marvel’s Helstrom is on track, I hear Hulu and the Ghost Rider team had reached a creative impasse which could not be resolved, leading to the streamer’s decision not to move forward with the series.
Marvel Television remains a leading supplier to Hulu with a series slate that includes the live-action Marvel’s Runaways, which has been renewed for a third season, and the upcoming Marvel’s Helstrom, both co-produced by ABC Signature. It also in involved in a suite of four connected animated series — Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K, Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show and Marvel’s Howard the Duck — set to roll out in 2020, culminating in a special event, Marvel’s The Offenders.
Marvel’s Ghost Rider is executive produced by Stephen Lightfoot, who was to serve as showrunner, Paul Zbyszewski and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb. It is unclear whether the series will be shopped elsewhere.
The antihero Ghost Rider, also known as Robbie Reyes, is consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. Reyes lives on the Texas-Mexico border and when he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields. The character was brought back to the Marvel Universe in 2016 on ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. with the Robbie Reyes version, played by Luna.
In 2007, Sony and Marvel released a feature film based on the motorcycle rider with a flaming skull, directed by Mark Steven Johnson and starring Nicolas Cage as the Johnny Blaze version of the titular antihero.

The “geeks”/”nerrrrds” are at it again! No, this PROJECT HAS NOT BEEN “CANCELLED”! Stop using that word because you don’t know whatcha talking about.
For that term to apply, the project were to progress through multiple stages before the said verb could apply had outcome been the same, then. But this was still in-development! As in, EVEN THE SCRIPT OF THE PILOT WASN’T FINALISED! Period.
And no.. This is not concerning anybody specific.

Marvel’s TV/streaming business is a mess…
Which is really sad & a huge tragedy… because there are some really great stories that could’ve been told.
Yes, I know that Kevin Feige is overseeing many new Disney+ streaming series’, which will be directly tied-into the MCU – but it won’t have the same excitement & goodwill, now that Tony Stark is dead & the “Avengers” are gone…
Yes, I know that there will be a new “Avengers” movie coming-out in May 2024 – but it won’t have the same goodwill & excitement that the original “Avengers” did with Tony Stark (certainly not with ugly/untalented people like Simu Liu).
And unlike the incompetent morons such as Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams & Rian Johnson at “Star Wars” – I’ll only feel sorry & heartbroken for Mr. Feige, Marvel & this corporate tragedy that was “Endgame”.
