Lawrence S. Kaplan
Lawrence Samuel Kaplan (* 28. Oktober 1924 in Cambridge, Massachusetts; † 10. April 2020 in Delray Beach, Florida) war ein US-amerikanischer Historiker und Hochschullehrer.[1]
Leben und Wirken

Kaplan studierte Geschichte (insbesondere Amerikanische Geschichte), zunächst von 1941 bis 1943 und von 1946 bis 1947 am Colby College, unterbrochen durch seinen Militärdienst im Zweiten Weltkrieg. Den Bachelorgrad erwarb er 1947, gefolgt von der Masterprüfung 1948 an der Yale University. Im Jahre 1951 promovierte er an der Yale University zum Ph.D. Zunächst unterrichtete der 1950 an der University of Bridgeport und war dann von 1951 bis 1954 im Verteidigungsministerium der Vereinigten Staaten tätig. Von 1954 bis zu seiner Emeritierung 1993 war Kaplan Hochschullehrer (seit 1956 Professor für Geschichte) an der Kent State University. Gastprofessuren hatte er an zahlreichen in- und ausländischen Universitäten, so 1959/60 an der Universität Bonn.[2] Ab 1993 war er (im Ruhestand) noch als Dozent an der Georgetown University tätig. Als Historiker beschäftigte sich Kaplan vor allem mit der Geschichte und Entwicklung der Außenpolitik (Diplomatie) der USA und insbesondere mit der NATO bzw. ihrem Verhältnis zu den Vereinigten Staaten.
