Hoheitszeichen der Gemeinden des Kantons Jura

Ciao Ziv! Vor Jahren wurde im Wikiprojekt Wappen eine Anfrage zu den Hoheitszeichen der Gemeinden des Kantons Jura gestellt. Ich bin endlich dazu gekommen, diese Anfrage fertig zu bearbeiten. Duplicate discussion

Hi, I think I have the wrong end of the stick, or maybe am looking at the analysis without understanding something flawed about it. A simplistic check for SHA1 duplicates created by the DPLA bot in the last 30 days, shows a backlog of nearly 60,000 files. The most recent was created last night, The Piker.

Could you try to explain why this is okay, as I'm not understanding Dominic's reasoning and it feels pointless repeating the same facts in a loop? Thanks Fæ (talk) 09:22, 13 July 2026 (UTC)

I have no idea why DPLA is producing so many duplicates. Much of it is due to the DPLA ID changing. The goal, however, should be to prevent it from uploading so many duplicates and instead simply change the file description and filename of the files that have already been uploaded to Commons. Thanks. Well, having repeated myself several times, I need to back away. Let me know if you need any related analysis, I've dealt with non-identical duplicate detection and so forth several times but do not want to step on Dominic's toes when there's plenty of other issues to focus on. I personally like Dominic. He's solved quite a few problems which I drew his attention to. I think he'll definitely manage to get the duplicate problem under control somehow. I'm a complete programming novice myself and only delete the stuff that DPLA-bot tags as duplicates. If the upload comes from DPLA-bot itself, then I couldn't care less, but I do intervene when it comes to user uploads from very active users like yourself who have uploaded many valuable files to Commons. Re File:.ae domain logo.png

The problem with a copy and paste move is that the file history isn't moved along with the file. Therefore it should be deleted and properly moved with FileImporter. Okay, I just learned something: the file can not be moved to Commons at all. You wouldn't be able to comply with my request to do it yourself, because I just tried it and it doesn't work, even with my extended rights. So, please accept my apologies.

The version history is likely not the main issue here; rather, the question is whether the English Wikipedia actually needs a local copy of it.

Thanks! I think the reason they couldn't be imported here originally is that the files already were here, you can't import duplicates. However now since you deleted the file, you then could import them. And the original upload log is not needed now since the upload log are imported along with the file. I don't know if it's right or wrong, but why do other-language Wikipedias offer a link to copy the log after a file has been transferred to Commons? I’m actually not the only one who does that, but I can’t show you an example right now. Hello @Ziv, I am writing to you following the conclusion of this procedure and in particular for File:Silvio Lavornia.jpg, which was not restored Under Italian law, Public Administrations are subject to a strict rule known as Open by Default. This principle dictates that if a government entity publishes a document, dataset, or image online without explicitly adding a restrictive copyright notice (like "All rights reserved"), that file automatically becomes Open Data. Therefore, the fact that the 2017 archived website had no copyright notice at all is exactly the legal trigger that makes these files free. If the Province of Caserta had wanted to restrict the use of those files back in 2017, they were legally required to explicitly state it. Since they remained silent on the matter, the files were legally born as Open Data. You might legitimately wonder how this works timeline-wise. The reference law is Article 52, paragraph 2 of the Digital Administration Code (commonly known in Italy as CAD, Decreto Legislativo 82/2005). Although the Code itself dates back to 2005, this specific "Open by Default" paragraph was officially injected into it via a later amendment in 2012 (specifically, Article 9, paragraph 1 n. 2 of Decree-Law 179/2012 "Data and documents published by the responsible administrative bodies—by any means and without the express adoption of a license [...] are deemed to be released as open data"). This means that when the archived website was active in 2017, this open-data mandate had already been in full legal force for five years. Today, the current version of the website displays a CC BY 4.0 logo in its Legal Notes. They haven't fundamentally changed the license today; rather, they are simply complying with the law by explicitly writing down the open status that their contents already legally possessed since 2012. ​In conclusion, under Italian law, any file published by a local government entity in 2017 without a restrictive copyright warning is legally Open Data. We can safely keep and upload these archived files by applying the current CC BY 4.0 license. ​I hope this breakdown clears up any remaining concerns. Thank you! Hi! The Italian institutions are slowwwwwly moving towards free license. So, it's correct to use {{Italy-CAD-OBD}} for those governmental websites that do not specify any license. When a license is specified, like in this case of Provincia di Caserta, we generally use the CC BY 4.0 template. But we can modify the Italy-CAD-OBD in order to include other websites applying CC BY 4.0.

For the File:Silvio Lavornia.jpg, note that the archived version from 2017-06-01 does not have the CC BY 4.0 statement in Note legali [1]. I would restore it using as source the main page and using the Italy-CAD-OBD template. Cheers, Ruthven (msg) 14:26, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

An unproblematic image from a country that was not always so prudish, nominated for deletion by an account whose sole activity is targeting this image and whose edits on the English Wikipedia have mostly been reverted. Dup tagging

The duplicate templating is now automated as suggested, so it is limited to topping up the duplicates category a couple of times a day. It only adds files if the backlog is under 200 and it runs slowly. There's just under 4,000 2-duplicates listed for the DPLA now, i.e. files with exactly one other identical duplicate. Other cases with higher numbers of duplicates are either caused because of blank pages or can be handled with DRs. Interestingly only one 3-duplicate case is left, so it feels like this housekeeping is almost finished, Deletion requests/Files in Category:DPLA dups 5.

It's worth remembering the method if any bot creates mass duplicates again, in this case after getting SQL working in quarry, the results can be exported to a CSV file and then have a pywikibot programme examine each SHA1 value in turn. Running in my local crontab is not an unreasonable thing to do with it. Other technical solutions, like using something running on toolforge could be worth it, if the case had much larger numbers, however an even better solution in large 'bad bot' related case would be to agree mass deletion and let a bot do it all, rather than sticking in the volunteer queue.

Yes, this would probably be easy to program, but in this case, I'm one of the most clueless users imaginable. I'm against a bot that has the authority to delete files, because ultimately, a human should always oversee what gets deleted, even if it's just exact duplicates. Duplicate details merge

Hello @Ziv! Have 2 questions:

1. Why did you delete File:Adding more maize meal during the cooking process.jpg instead of File:Adding more maize meal during the cooking process 2.jpg I suggested (but you reverted). Don't you see distortion (curves) on the photo you kept in the center, which usually occurs when you take a photo of something from a CRT display (monitor or TV), that was absent on initial (I bet original, showed - I guess - 13 minutes later on CRT display to make photo you kept) photo you deleted? I mean... curves probably an (unintentional) work of art and (probably) valuable to someone, but what makes you take such unusual deletion priority of deleting original keeping it's distorted copy?
2. What does mean "Merging details from duplicate" note here? Does it some kind of automated details copy while deleting the duplicates? Usually I try to combine details before SD nomination, but what I see probably make my such action excessive. Is that thing some kind of automatic and I can no more care about combining it before SDing?

That is very easy to explain. The images were identical, but the second upload was larger in megabytes, so I reversed the selection. Only your template was removed; nothing else was changed. Note: An image you have tagged as a duplicate is not always deleted; administrators can still reverse the selection if there are grounds for doing so.

I didn't mean any critics. I know SD nomination doesn't guarantee deletion. I was just trying to understand the logic. Now it makes sense, thanks ;) But now, having looked closely, I see that the original image is fine when in full-resolution, but the downsized one (i.e. page thumbnail) shows exactly the same (or at least similar) distortion as the second one...

Looks like they both bad or good enough: the original image was also taken from a TV ;), but the contrast in the second one is suppressed (so the cameraman's hand wouldn't be visible). Wonder they both looks good on the full-scale... I don't understand the nature of distorsion on downscaled. First time I ever see connected to scale I choose and not image itself...

I guess I'll just nominate them for merging (although I don't understand what value they have). Sorry for bothering you. I just needed to understand.

Du gestattest doch das ich dir auf Deutsch antworte, da wir beide dieser Sprache mächtig sind. Gelöscht ist das Logo zwar noch nicht, ich selbst habe es bloss zur Löschung unter COM:GCSD#G10 (Files and pages created as advertisements) nominiert und löschen wird es dann ein anderer Admin.

Tatsächlich aber gehört der Upload zu einem mittlerweile gelöschten Wikidata-Elelement, das nicht von relevanz ist und in diesem Sinne hat auch dieses Logo unter COM:OOS für Commons keinen weiteren Nutzen, dazu kommt noch hinzu, dass dies dein bisheriger einziger Beitrag auf Commons war, in diesem Sinne würde auch der Löschgrund COM:GCSD#F10 (Personal files by non-contributors) zutreffen.

The deleted portrait was taken by Jaylyn Wereley of Charisma Photography. I commissioned it and own the copyright. I am not claiming to have taken the photograph myself, and Jaylyn should be credited as the photographer separately from my copyright ownership.

The statement that the photographer must own the copyright because the image is not a selfie does not account for copyright transferred to another person. I would appreciate treating this as an ownership-verification question rather than a settled conclusion that I do not own the rights. For future cases, a request for clarification would be welcome.

I understand that Commons needs verifiable permission, not merely my assertion here. I will pursue verification through the Volunteer Response Team and will not re-upload the deleted file to bypass the decision. I also understand that permission verification and Commons’ educational-scope requirements are separate issues.

Did you even read the additional information regarding the move criterion 4? It states the following:

Just because images share a category does not mean that they are part of a set. There are two scenarios that this criterion is designed for. Wikisource also uses a specific naming convention for the source files they transcribe. Second, files that form parts of a whole (such as scans from the same book or large images that are divided into smaller portions due to Commons’ upload size restriction) should follow the same naming convention so that they appear together, in order, in categories and lists.

Photos of politicians are neither railway icons (BSicons) nor football kits. Furthermore, these are not files whose specific naming sequence is mandatory for Wikisource. Renaming them under criterion 4 is therefore not permissible, and you will likely have to live with the current filenames, unless the name is incorrect or completely meaningless. Du hast die von mir vor ein paar Tagen hochgeladene Bilddatei [Pseudo Pier Francesco Fiorentino Madonna and Child 1942.9.50.jpg] gelöscht, vermutlich unter der Annahme, dass sie identisch mit [Madonna and Child A14718.jpg] ist. Aus zwei Gründen bin ich etwas unglücklich mit Deiner Aktion:

• Die beiden Dateien sind nicht identisch; die von mir hochgeladene Version war etwas detaillierter (2785 x 4096 Pixel ggü. 2720 x 4000) - gut, den Unterschied sieht man wahrscheinlich nicht einmal mit Lupe - und
• der Dateiname der gelöschten Datei war informativer ("Pseudo Pier Francesco Fiorentino Madonna and Child 1942.9.50.jpg" enthält ggü. "Madonna and Child A14718.jpg" den Notnamen des Malers sowie die Inventarnummer in der National Gallery of Art; "A14718" sagt mir hingegen jetzt nix).

Daher würde ich es begrüßen, wenn Du die Löschaktion wieder rückgängig machen würdest (falls die gelöschte Datei nicht bereits auf Nimmerwiedersehen in irgendeinem Orkus verschwunden ist).

Auf Commons verschwindet nix in irgendwelchen "Orken". Löschen heisst eigentlich es wird "unsichtbar für die Öffentlichkeit" und Nutzer mit Spezialrechten haben weiterhin Zugriff da drauf. Zu deinem Upload: File:Pseudo Pier Francesco Fiorentino Madonna and Child 1942.9.50.jpg wurde von @M2k~dewiki: als Duplikat getaggt und ich habe dem stattgegeben. Einen grossen Unterschied kann ich da nicht erkennen, bei deinem Upload sind zudem die Zehen des Jesuskindes abgeschnitten, während auf File:Madonna and Child A14718.jpg das vollständige Gemälde zu sehen ist. Nachtrag: Das mit den Zehen ist nicht korrekt, wurde mir aber in der Vorschau vor der Wiederherstellung so angezeigt. Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob die Dateigröße in diesem Fall so aussagekräftig ist. Beide Bilder scheinen ja aus derselben Quelle zu stammen, direkt von der NGA heruntergeladen, da scheint es mir nicht sehr plausibel, dass die nun plötzlich ein qualitativ minderwertigeres Foto ins Netz stellen. Vielleicht haben sie jetzt einfach ein besseres Komprimierungsverfahren verwendet als 2016? Aber Du kennst Dich damit vermutlich besser aus als ich, wenn Du täglich mit x Bildern auf Commons jonglierst.

Beim Duplikate löschen erscheint den Administratoren ein Auswahlfenster, wo dann beide Dateien darin abgebildet sind. Deine hat darin zwar minimal mehr Pixel aber weniger Megabytes. Darf ich also deinen Upload wieder als Duplikat löschen? Auf der WP und auch im Museumswesen scheint "Pseudo Pier Francesco Fiorentino" gebräuchlicher zu sein, während mir "Lippi-Pesellino-Imitator" im wissenschaftlichen Kontext üblicher (und auf jeden Fall genauer) zu sein scheint. Im Sinne der Commons-internen Kohärenz tendiere ich leicht zum Pseudo, aus wissenschaftlicher Sicht klar zum Imitator, aber letztendlich müsst Ihr das wissen, die Ihr Euch täglich mit Commons-Dateinamen herumschlagt.
