@Dronebogus, hello. You inserted among other stuff

"For this guideline to apply to unrealistic depictions of minors, the depicted subjects must be obviously pubescent or prepubescent children, showing human or humanoid subjects who are unambiguously minors due to lack of physical development associated with puberty,"

Per "Minor: A person under the age of majority in their home country. For Wikimedia's purposes, we use the age of majority in the United States, which is 18. In other countries the age may differ, which can impact the legality of your actions on the projects as they relate to minors." I'm not sure that's good guidance at all. "Physical development" is not the be-all of the WMF-policy, and pics within your limits could very well be in w:WP:OA territory. That's my reading. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 04:13, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

What do you propose as an alternative then? Because I really don’t see any better or more expansive definition, nor do I see the pressing need for one. On the contrary, a wider definition beyond “obviously, uncontroversially depicts a child” would lead to a lot of stupid situations where people try to claim anime/manga characters (and it’s only going to be anime/manga characters) are minors based on the flimsiest of evidence. Dronebogus (talk) 06:22, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't go into these details at all, leave it at child and minor. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:42, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Without this definition anyone can call any fictional character a minor and have a credible basis for deleting any remotely sexual media they don’t like. People have already used it to go after a SFW picture of a cartoon horse. I can’t think of a more ad absurdum example than that. Dronebogus (talk) 06:48, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
And with this guidance as written, my worry that people can follow it and still get into OA deletions remain. Who knows, maybe it won't be a big problem. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:54, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think it’s much more likely vague/broad guidance will be abused than it is narrow guidance will allow unacceptable media to slip through the cracks. Dronebogus (talk) 06:56, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Or will your guidance inspire someone to start uploading a lot of chibi-style characters having sex? Who knows, we are a strange people. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:14, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The “ero-chibi” genre is rather niche last time I checked. Dronebogus (talk) 07:15, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have mixed ideas of w:Chibi (style), as it seems we are getting into the 1,000 year old vampire argument.
I suggest we leave Chibi, out and let future editors and deletion requests come to a consensus on that. Issac I Navarro (talk) 00:15, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I made your language a little less "commanding": [1]. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:58, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Reasonable, though it is still just a proposed guideline and therefore should be taken with a double serving of salt. Dronebogus (talk) 06:59, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Absolutely, and it might end up an essay or deleted. Nobody at Commons:Village_pump/Proposals#Commons:Nudity/children is shouting "Yes, this is guidance we should have written down in some form!" so far, though there are some not-negative responses. Even so, I think that was improvement. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:04, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
An essay may be what is best for this matter. Just something that we have jotted down and can point to. It may be useful, especially in deletion requests when it comes to historical works being nominated. Issac I Navarro (talk) 23:55, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
As I know when I was a less experienced Commons editor I made that same mistake here: Commons:Deletion requests/File:DiaperRashCandida.png Issac I Navarro (talk) 23:56, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Examples

[edit]
Fictional and famous character

I'm looking for some good "no-brainer" inclusion examples to mention, photos or art, like the current Napalm girl. Suggestions are appreciated, bring your Michelangelo, your Rembrandt, your Ansel Adams. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:25, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I found some old deletion requests that all ended in keep. Maybe a file in one of these might be useful as there was already an argument for deletion and a reason for why it was kept.
This is a mix of drawings and actual child nudity related deletion requests:

(I went though more of the archives and found some more related deletion request that I have linked above. I also found this very old Commons:News regarding the sexual content purge, regarding the Jimbo situation, and I also found this old deletion request Commons:Deletion requests/File:Autofellatio3.jpg that was deleted by the meta. Hopefully, this may be helpful. Issac I Navarro (talk) 04:55, 25 September 2026 (UTC) )Reply

Issac I Navarro (talk) 23:41, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
My personal favorite is Commons:Deletion requests/File:MLP clop fanart of a pony version of Wikipedia.png, as this was a absolute "no-brainer" that did spark a tiny bit of controversy. For some context of a prior discussion at en:Talk: Furry pornography/Archive 1#Hidden page revisions and en:Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/Archive 228#Inappropriate content involving fictional children Issac I Navarro (talk) 00:02, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don’t think we should include Commons:Deletion requests/File:Me and my Chucks.jpg or anything else by Peter Klashorst, an “artist” who went to 3rd-world countries and took pornographic photos of impoverished women (likely sex workers). If the image in question depicts an actual minor it absolutely should be deleted as child sexual exploitation material. file:Bottomless sukumizu girl.jpg also isn’t great— I’d say it would mostly get a pass today because it shows barbie-doll anatomy and it’s in use rather than because there’s serious artistic or educational merit. Dronebogus (talk) 00:39, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Commons:Deletion requests/File:Czu MLP clop Wikimare.png is also unrelated to the topic and should be removed. Dronebogus (talk) 00:40, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Commons:Deletion requests/File:Lolicon Sample.png and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Kaoru271108.png were nominated because they were perceived as pedophilic, not because the children depicted were nude.
Commons:Deletion requests/Wikipe-tan lolicon (2007-01-04) wasn’t originally nominated because it was lolicon; the debate was a toss-up and the controversy arose from Jimbo unilaterally there would be no pedophilic sexualization of a community mascot.
Commons:Deletion requests/File:Mother of the seals.jpg had more to do with the dignity of the subject. Also, the image actually is likely child sexual exploitation material— the subject is probably underage and was probably sexually exploited, and this image was probably part of that exploitation. Dronebogus (talk) 00:51, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Commons:Deletion requests/File:Sexually abused boy (ca 1910).jpg is a quite frankly bizarre nomination based on non sequitur leaps of logic that had very little to do with the fact that the subject was nude (with nothing visible mind you). Dronebogus (talk) 01:02, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Dronebogus, Thank you so much for elaborating. I had gathered some old deletion requests, but you actually put some of it down into words.
Question, should we nominate Commons:Deletion requests/File:Mother of the seals.jpg for deletion or notify the WMF?
The caption "Northward over the great ice : a narrative of life and work along the shores and upon the interior ice-cap of northern Greenland in the years 1886 and 1891-1897, with a description of the little tribe of Smith Sound Eskimos, the most northerly human beings in the world, and an account of the discovery and bringing home of the Saviksue or great Cape York meteorites by Peary, Robert E. New York, NY : F.A. Stokes Company, 1898. Vol. 1. P. 500" Issac I Navarro (talk) 02:17, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don’t know if we should notify the Foundation. I’d rather target Peter Klashorst’s images since his victims are still alive and his photos are a lot more exploitative. You can report those if you feel like it. I don’t know the process and I don’t expect much anyway. Dronebogus (talk) 04:53, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Dronebogus, Given the number of eyeballs this whole matter has spawned, there might be some movement that may come from it. I’m not entirely sure meta is the right venue, or if I should just do COM:CSAM yet, I left a message on meta. Issac I Navarro (talk) 06:11, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Comment, I brought this matter to COM:VP#Files in Category:Photographs by Peter Klashorst. Issac I Navarro (talk) 03:09, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
The two other Wikipe-tan images seem irrelevant to this issue as well, other than to illustrate how people will go after anything weeby as “pedophilic” no matter how innocuous. Dronebogus (talk) 05:01, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I know; that is precisely why I included them. I found those DRs rather peculiar. Issac I Navarro (talk) 05:10, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Given that this is what originally sparked this matter, File:Stability Matrix Inference in action.png censored.png, may be worth considering if the other file is/isn't deleted, as well as with one of the files from the SFL collection that has still remained undeleted: File:Super Forbidden Love Drawings 09 crop.png/File:Super Forbidden Love Drawings 01.png.
I’ll also leave the link to the WMF response here: COM:VP/P#Subtopic 4: Longer note from Wikimedia Foundation Legal Team.
I did not mention this earlier in this thread, but in a separate discussion, Commons:Deletion requests/File:Nooshafarin02.jpg was deleted. I raised that matter on the meta, where PBradley-WMF responded: "I'll see if we can get back to you on that."

Question

[edit]

Just a quick question to the main contributors of this page. (@Dabmasterars, @Arlo Barnes, @Dronebogus, @Gråbergs Gråa Sång)

If this was to becomes a policy, should it/will it engulf Commons:Child protection? Issac I Navarro (talk) 00:07, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I don't think so; that proposal is about on-wiki activity of users, whereas I believe this proposal to be about subject matter of uploads. They should definitely link to each other, especially if one or both passes beyond the proposal stage. Arlo James Barnes 02:17, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
So you think they should remain separate pages, rather than being combined? If it was, would including a Shortcut section on each page linking to the other, such as COM:CSAM and COM:CHILDPROTECT. Issac I Navarro (talk) 02:34, 25 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
[edit]

There should also be some requirement defined that there must not be any doubt that the photo is published without the consent of the parents. GPSLeo (talk) 05:30, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

 Support Issac I Navarro (talk) 06:19, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@GPSLeo, Slightly confused by your wording. Are you saying there should be a requirement that it be clear whether the photo was published without the parents’ consent or with the parents’ full knowledge and consent? Issac I Navarro (talk) 06:25, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think consent without knowledge is not possible. The VRT team said they do not want to check the consent in such cases. We therefore have to trust the sources. Sources we do not trust are not acceptable. GPSLeo (talk) 06:38, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think your rationale makes sense. Issac I Navarro (talk) 06:43, 26 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

The Tanner scale diagram

[edit]

Why is this even here? There are plenty of adult women who resemble every row on this, the definition of a woman is not D-cups and a full bush. Gnomingstuff (talk) 05:33, 12 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

I think it is just something there to help, akin to the w:Dost test. Issac I Navarro (talk) 06:12, 12 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Exactly. The inverse is also not necessarily true in the weird world of anime and manga, where “oppai lolis” are definitely a thing, even though I feel like such characters would rarely be a concern here because of the wildly implausible nature of the depiction, similar to the much-discussed cartoon pony exception and the case of Yoko Litner (a 15-year old anime girl who looks extremely well-developed for her canonical age) I mentioned at one point.
