About this journal

The International Journal of the Commons is an interdisciplinary peer-reviewed open-access journal dedicated to advancing understanding of the diverse ways in which people create, sustain, and transform relationships around shared resources and collective action.

Commons encompass both shared resources and the collective practices and relationships through which those resources are created, sustained, governed, and transformed. They may involve natural resources and systems (e.g. forests, climate systems, or oceans), as well as collectively created and sustained resources (e.g. infrastructures such as irrigation systems, digital networks, or shared knowledge, including that made available through open-access publishing, as exemplified by IJC).

The IJC is an initiative of the International Association for the Study of the Commons (IASC).

Our aim is to promote inclusion, diversity, and equity on this platform. To this end, and to the extent possible, we offer additional support to scholars from low- and middle-income countries who are affiliated with institutions in those countries. This support may include fee waivers, mentorship, and additional rounds of review. Contact us to see what we may be able to do for you.
