Lemonade AMD PerfOpt Krackan

Lastly is a look at the lowest-end tested laptop offering with the AMD Ryzen AI 5 340 Krackan Point. At least last year, this laptop could be found in the sub-$500 segment. With AMD PerfOpt there is now more performance potential for AI/LLM usage for those on a tight budget.

With this low-end laptop it had some very nice gains out of AMD PerfOpt coming in Linux 7.4.

The performance benefits of AMD PerfOpt can vary based on the hardware as well as the size of the large language model / memory use.

AMD PerfOpt is looking very nice for helping boost AMD Radeon iGPU performance on Linux. Great that it's not limited to top-end Strix/Gorgon Halo hardware but the lower tier laptops out-of-the-box seeing some very large gains thanks to the smaller default vRAM carve-out.

Both throughput and lower latency in time to first token with this AMD PerfOpt feature on Krackan Point.

Linux 7.4 should be releasing right around the end of 2026 as stable as a wonderful holiday gift to AMD Ryzen APUs. Plus many other changes coming for Linux 7.4 too. More Linux 7.4 benchmarks in due course on Phoronix once the merge window is over in late October.
