1.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Non-invasive method of demonstrating internal anatomy based on the principle that atomic nuclei in a strong magnetic field absorb pulses of radiofrequency energy and emit them as radiowaves which can be reconstructed into computerized images. The concept includes proton spin tomographic techniques.

Year introduced: 1988

2.

Fluorine-19 Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Magnetic resonance imaging diagnostic technique which uses fluorine-19 perfluorocarbon probes and contrast agents for high resolution image detection and quantitation.

Year introduced: 2015

3.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Interventional

Minimally invasive procedures guided with the aid of magnetic resonance imaging to visualize tissue structures.

Year introduced: 2007

4.

Diffusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging

A diagnostic technique that incorporates the measurement of molecular diffusion (such as water or metabolites) for tissue assessment by MRI. The degree of molecular movement can be measured by changes of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) with time, as reflected by tissue microstructure. Diffusion MRI has been used to study BRAIN ISCHEMIA and tumor response to treatment.

Year introduced: 2003

5.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Cine

A type of imaging technique used primarily in the field of cardiology. By coordinating the fast gradient-echo MRI sequence with retrospective ECG-gating, numerous short time frames evenly spaced in the cardiac cycle are produced. These images are laced together in a cinematic display so that wall motion of the ventricles, valve motion, and blood flow patterns in the heart and great vessels can be visualized.

Year introduced: 1996

6.

Perfusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging

A specialized type of MRI technique that provides information about HEMODYNAMIC parameters such as CEREBRAL BLOOD VOLUME, CEREBRAL BLOOD FLOW, and transit time. In perfusion MRI, an exogenous CONTRAST AGENT is usually injected to provide superior tissue contrast and easy delineation of perfusion abnormalities. Endogenous markers can also be used.

Year introduced: 2025

7.

Dynamic Contrast Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging

A non-invasive technique for measuring changes within the tumor MICROVASCULATURE.

Year introduced: 2025

8.

Multiparametric Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Magnetic Resonance Imaging technique that combines functional imaging techniques such as diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), dynamic contrast-enhanced imaging and magnetic spectroscopy. This technique is widely used for active surveillance in prostate cancer imaging.

Year introduced: 2020

9.

Echo-Planar Imaging

A type of MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING that uses only one nuclear spin excitation per image and therefore can obtain images in a fraction of a second rather than the minutes required in traditional MRI techniques. It is used in a variety of medical and scientific applications.

Year introduced: 1993

10.

Postmortem Imaging

The generation of images of the body's structures, organs, and tissues after death.

Year introduced: 2024

11.

Diffusion Tensor Imaging

The use of diffusion ANISOTROPY data from diffusion magnetic resonance imaging results to construct images based on the direction of the faster diffusing molecules.

Year introduced: 2010
