Anthony Davis Named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week

Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis has been named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, March 27, to Sunday, April 2.

Davis averaged 38.7 points (.652 FG%, .806 FT%), 11.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.0 blocks in three games, as the Lakers finished the week 3-0 with road victories over Chicago, Minnesota and Houston.

To begin the week, Davis recorded 38 points (13-20 FG, 11-14 FT), nine rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks in a 121-110 win at the Bulls on March 29. In a 123-111 victory over the Timberwolves on March 31, Davis finished with 38 points (15-26 FG, 8-10 FT), 17 rebounds, one steal and two blocks, good for his league-leading seventh game of the season with 35+ points and 15+ rebounds.

Davis closed out the week with 40 points (15-20 FG, 10-12 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and two blocks in a 134-109 victory at the Rockets on April 2. In the win, Davis became the first Lakers player since Shaquille O’Neal on March 21, 2003, to score 40+ points while shooting at least 75 percent from the field. Davis joined Gail Goodrich as the only Lakers players to accomplish the feat in 30 minutes or less.

In 52 games (50 starts) for the Lakers this season, Davis is averaging 26.6 points (.571 FG%), 12.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.0 blocks in 33.9 minutes. He has tallied 36 double-doubles and has scored at least 20 points in 40 of 52 games this season.

Davis owns nine career weekly awards, including four with Los Angeles. This marks his second weekly award of the season and first since Dec. 5.
