A tavern. A trading post. A temple. A maze. It’s been a very long time. Perhaps some old adventures deserve another turn. Today, we celebrate Robert Woodhead and the late Andrew Greenberg on the 45th anniversary of the dungeon crawler that started it all, Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord.

I'm delighted to announce that I'll be talking to Atari CEO Wade Rosen at gamescom dev (on Tuesday 25 August at 17:15). Atari is like a phoenix - when it rose, it established an entire industry. When it collapsed, it nearly took the whole medium with it. And today, under Wade's passionate, authentic and practical leadership, it is rising back. From acquiring Digital Eclipse Entertainment Partners to handpicking a maverick indie team like Fabraz to bring back cult IP like Bubsy to critical acclaim and commercial success, Atari has been on a steadfast path to success and sustainablity. Now that the game industry has reached a new dramatic inflection point, this one-on-one will look into how we can all learn lessons from the past and what it takes to build games that matter and to keep things real. Our chat is part of my EDGE Magazine in Person series of conversations - you'll be hearing more about these in the near future! https://lnkd.in/e9xk5rFm Thank you Nico Balletta, Jay Zhao and team for having us! #gamescom #atari #edgeinperson #indiegames #gamedevelopment #gamedev #publishing #videogames #gamescomdev

Atari X Oasiz is live. We’re excited to bring Breakout to Oasiz as the first game in our collaboration with Atari. Breakout is one of the most recognizable and iconic classic arcade games ever made. On Oasiz, we wanted to preserve that classic arcade feeling while making it social from the start. “Oasiz uses modern social tools to capture one of the most classic gaming experiences: the social interaction of an arcade, making this take on Breakout a great fit for the platform,” said Wade Rosen, Chairman and CEO of Atari. This version is built for jump-in multiplayer: two players share the same playfield, race to clear their color, use power-ups and debuffs, climb leaderboards, and play inside a platform designed around friends, chat, and community-driven play. I love how the game quietly turns into a nod to Pong mid-match where you have to make sure the opponents ball doesn't cross your side. Oasiz is built around the belief that software is one of the greatest creative mediums. For us, that means constantly exploring new ways to build, play, foster social interaction, and create fresh creative twists on the games people already love. That’s why we’re so excited to work with Atari starting with Breakout and continuing with more experiences ahead. Play Breakout on Oasiz here: https://lnkd.in/gRBNSWgK . . . .
