An Coimisiún na Meán (CnaM)’s Online Safety Code applies to YouTube and other video sharing platform services based in Ireland and is aimed at improving online safety for users.
YouTube is committed to following the rules of the Online Safety Code. We work hard to make sure our service is safe and secure.
How YouTube complies with the Online Safety Code
At YouTube, we aim to balance giving everyone a voice and showing them the world, with protecting users and society. We take this responsibility seriously.
YouTube complies with the Online Safety Code by having:
- Easy-to-use content rating systems allowing users who upload videos to rate content as not suitable for children
- Age assurance systems for content which may be harmful to minors
- Parental control systems
- Reporting/flagging systems to allow users to report or flag restricted content categories
- A complaints procedure relating to the implementation of the above measures
YouTube’s Complaints Procedures
YouTube takes its obligations to comply with the Online Safety Code seriously. If you believe YouTube isn't following the rules of the Online Safety Code, with respect to the above listed measures, you can report this. Let us know through this webform how we can do better; Online Safety Code Form.
We will review your report and typically respond (should you request a response) within 10 business days, though some more complex cases may take longer. We may also reach out for more information from you (if you have provided contact details).
If you would like to make a report about specific content you have seen on YouTube, you can do so by reporting it here.
Declaration of Commercial Communications
The Online Safety Code also requires YouTube to have a functionality for users to declare whether their content contains audiovisual commercial communications (such as advertisements) and to require users to declare the presence of audiovisual commercial communications. You can find more information on the branded content disclosure tool here.
